I'm new to this forum. Just getting back into cycling after many, many years. Took the bike out for a 5K ride just to make sure everything (the bike and my knee) works as it should. Also did a two mile walk this morning. Looking forward to a longer ride tomorrow.

Good luck, actaylor, and welcome back to the cycling community!

I rode about 14 miles between 12:00 AM and 2:00 AM this morning. I love riding in the fog of the northern California coast, specially around or after midnight when it's quiet and there's no traffic. Technically that was yesterday's ride, at least as far as my log is concerned, but it was today by the clock. Today's ride will most likely be around the same time later tonight. :)

I rode 6.08 miles today in 34.40 at a 10.5 mph avg. Slow I know but just getting into this biking thingy. Love the sound of knobby's on the pavement in the morning.

DnvrFox 08-24-11 01:55 PM

21 miles this 6:30 am - with a windbreaker, no less, on my 'bent. -- nice swim -- 11 more miles on the Lemond for a total of 32 miles.

BikeWNC 08-24-11 02:56 PM

From this morning's ride. Perfect weather for a nice climb.

A quick nine miles before the rains came yesterday evening.
A sunny 95F ten miles this afternoon after donating blood this morning.

6.7 miles on a bike path. >90*F with high humidity. Pushed a little harder than I intended. I have a lot of IT band pain. Anybody have some good stretches/strengthening for this? I am rolling on a foam roller or a tennis ball and doing the stretches I can think of, but after this ride, I had some really sharp pain. The pain starts after I am done riding and have sat still for a few minutes (like the drive home)....

I rode my normal 15 mile after work ride at my wilderness MUP. Had some very strong headwinds today that really gave me a workout. It was a great ride.

It was supposed to be an easy 20 miles down and up the river- not really a recovery ride, but a nice solo excursion between harder days yesterday and tomorrow. When I got to my turnaround point I looked down and saw that I had been averaging 20.1 MPH. Well, I had probably been riding a little harder than intended, but also I think there must have been a tailwind. Anyway, I went down to the small chain ring and made myself slow down on the way home. Riding back up the river, I found that I indeed now had a noticeable head wind. Between that and the easier attitude, the end result was a ride with an 18.3 MPH average. Definitely not a true recovery ride, but in fact a much lower key ride than that average seems to indicate. It was a gorgeous late summer evening - in the high 70s and clear skies.

I had a fun 30 mile ride with 8 club members. The weather was a big improvement with 80s temps and reasonable humidity for a change.

We kept a moderate pace most of the time so everyone could keep up, but a few of us attacked some of the hills pretty hard and did some strong pulls on some of the flats. We had one all out battle on a mile long mostly level stretch. I started it by launching as we turned onto that road, creating a big gap and managed to hold everyone off for about 3/4 mile, but four of them caught and passed me as I faded. Much fun:D

My wife and I did a 21.1 mile ride around the Snoqualmie River Valley. We left Snoqualmie Ridge, took the back way to Lake Alice Road to Fall City. From there to Fish Hatchery Road and up the hill to the Salish Lodge. We rode through downtown Snoqualmie and out to our favorite LBS (Singletrack Cycles) in North Bend to pick up some spare bike tubes. Next we rode back though downtown Snoqualmie and up the hill on Snoqualmie Parkway then home. It was hot today in the upper 70's. And I think I didn't eat enough prior to the ride. The hill on Snoqualmie Parkway got me this time. That and the salty sweat dripping into my eyes. Oh well tomorrow is a new day. My Mad Redhead aka Lucy (2011 Trek Madone 5.2) did awesome as usual! She is much better at moving forward than I am as a rider! It sure is nice to be growing into a bike instead of growing out of a bike - for once in my life!

teachme 08-25-11 08:12 AM

Looks like fun! I need to join a club... :giver:

40 miles last night after work, in celebration of temps in the low 80s. It was weird. At one point my body told my brain that it felt chilly, but my brain responded back with howls of derisive laughter so my body didn't say anything more.

actaylor 08-25-11 10:27 AM

Thanks GoGranny! Day 2 was my morning two mile walk with my dog and a late morning (and hot!) five and a-half mile hilly bike ride.

Wogster 08-25-11 03:31 PM

Yesterday, no ride, we were under a Tornado watch all afternoon and evening...
Today, no ride, have to go get some baby stuff, besides, I am pooched.
Tomorrow, not sure yet, but not likely at this point, may be going out of town for the weekend, next possible ride day, Sunday....

az_cyclist 08-25-11 03:33 PM

12.2 miles @ 20.5 mph average, this morning before work.

DnvrFox 08-25-11 03:41 PM

Bank errands and lunch with the wife - 7 miles on the bent.

I've been debating where to post; whether on the drop bar thread or fear of undies (or what ever it's called). Today was an easy day at the state park and on the bike path to test a longer stem. I stopped at a favorite marsh viewing area and began a conversation with an older man (older than me) who was out with family and riding a custom titanium and carbon lugged Seven. We chatted for 10 minutes and then rode side by side for several miles.

I learned he was 82 y.o. and began cycling at 72, my age. He had very recently completed a century ride at the Pan Mass Challenge; the one with Lance Armstrong and senator Kerry. His bike sported drop bars and he sported nice bike shorts. So those who worry about what kind of figure they cut while on the bike, don't worry, be happy and wear and ride what you will.

I sure hope you told him there was a Doc who says he is too old to ride!!

Neat story - and a Seven!!

today 12.5. it was too hot and although the first 8 were at good speed (for me), I limped home. I missed my 6 am ride time and didnt go out until later when it was close to 100. mistake.

I think it has to involve strange women to count as carousing and debauching.

Carousing and debauching gives us balance to the uber-clean eating and living we do. I firmly believe in the 80/20 rule: 80% is healthy living, 20% is not. Works for us, YMMV.

Neither of us are sailors, although c_gallagh's dad was in the Merchant Marines in WWII.

Today we did a quick pre-race (for me) ride: 25.6 mi., 84 min., 18.1 mph avg, 500' of climbing. We vied for QOM/KOM on the rollers because yes, we're that competitive. It was fun, relatively easy, and I hope to scamper up the hills on Saturday's race like we did tonight.
