The wife and I did a 20mi breakfast ride. 15 min. after we got home I was doing some work in the yard when I heard a bang. The back tire on my bike was flat and half off the rim.

42 miles from town to the top of Waterrock Knob early this morning. Our group of four 50+ riders rode a steady aerobic pace up to the summit. Over 4000' total climbing on this one, mostly on the way up. It was a quick ride down though. Temps in the mid 50s made for perfect climbing weather.

Rode 20 miles this morning with my wife. It took us 2 1/2 hrs. She is just beginning to cycle so it was a good ride. After that I did a brisk 10 miles in 40 minutes. So, 30 miles today.

Only a 25 miler with my neighbour. Was going to take in a hill but The wind would have been a headwind- So instead went South for Pie and a few miles-into a headwind- then went East --into a headwind--Then North home into a headwind. Hardest 25 miles for a long time. Perhaps we should have done the hill. And Time wasn't too bad- two hours including the Pie.

Went out this morning with a friend who's a strong newb. He was on a hybrid and gamely kept up well, including on some hills. We had a lot of fun. 38.2 miles total.

Then I came home and lifted a basket of laundry and tweaked my lower back.

hello!

i'm new to bike forum and i'm 56 next month, so here i am. greetings!

my husband and i had a very nice ride this morning - sunday is group ride day. i did 55 miles; he just got a new bike and was feeling his oats, so he did the extra hills and logged 62. the weather is finally cooling off and the hurricane took the humidity with it when it left nc, so it was a wonderful day to ride.

aloha-

14 miles this morning before it got too hot (only 85 - 93 degrees). first ride in about 2 weeks due to 21 days straight working and many evening teleconferences. should be getting back to normal this coming week. hope to do more evening rides although the temps are still forecasted to be well over 100 degrees every day this week.

Had to cut my 200k short due to a damaged tire. Got in 93 miles, but not a bad day.

I'm been playing a game recently - my miles has to exceed the day's temp at the time when I call it a day. Last Saturday, I was a few miles short of 100 miles and lost the race to the temps. It was already 88 when I started and by noon, I was done. Today, I was up at 0330 and did just over 100 miles. The temp was 85F and that hole was quite as deep as last weekend! When I got home, the temp was just over 98F.

I took a couple of rides around the neighborhood. I've been reading "It's All About the Bike" by Robert Penn, and his chapter on handlebars got me thinking about drop bars again. It's a great book if you haven't read it.

So I pulled out my 2 10 speeds to see how they were doing. The poor American Eagle/Nishiki needs a lot of work, it's gearing is typical 10 speed as well, so it's insufficient for the hills of west Little Rock. The Kabuki Syd did much better. The gearing is just enough wider to work. I think the pedals are going to come off the American Eagle and go on the Kabuki so I can get the benefit of the toe clips. I haven't decided whether the Brooks saddle will go too.

Rode a big group ride in a nearby town this evening. 35 riders of widely ranging ability on a 16 mile ride, regrouping at turns. I stayed near the front and got a good workout on the short ride.

We put in 25 miles on the tandem, went over to Manitou Springs, to see the riders from the "Pikes Peak Assult" come back from riding to the "top" of Pikes Peak and back!! Nothing I'd be interested in doing but they have a decent "bike swap" and a few vendors, etc. so it made a nice day ride. The clouds came over so we headed home. It was HOT, 90 degrees but the clouds made the ride home ok.

It was a 65 mile ride for me today, South out of Eugene into wine country, then over the hills to Cottage Grove, OR then back to Eugene....there was a stop at a little French bakery in there too.

two short ones...

I did a short and tough 10 miles on Friday. For some (physical I think) reason, I just could not push my heart rate up to anywhere near my usual riding rate and it was a real tedious and exhausting 10 miles.

Saturday, I had intended to do 18 miles and started out well (a lot easier to get things going and plenty of strength for the distance etc.) I was doin better than average speed etc.. Then the rain came. I was about 4 miles from home, but by the time I got there, I was not very comfortable riding anymore (driving, wind-blown rain).

So I did 20 miles in two days, but I did get to clock my 800th mile for the season.

10 miles this morning on the waterway levee. Saw a pretty doe with a little one. Got pretty close before they spooked, don't think she knew quite what to make of me. Didn't even think about a pic until too late.

Yesterday my wife and I did 40 miles on our mtn bikes. We rode the Iron Horse Trail from Rattlesnake lake up to Snoqualmie Pass WA, through the 2.3 mile tunnel to Hyak and back to Rattlesnake Lake. That's 20 miles all up hill and 20 miles all down hill. The up hill was a grind! We've been mainly on our road bikes (Trek Madones) which are significantly lighter. Doing 40 miles on our mtn bikes was NOT the same as 40 miles on our Madones! Plus we had a headwind all the way down to Rattlesnake Lake. We were both dead dog tired when we rolled up to the truck! But we both were also smiling largely!! Aint it funny how pain can make a person smile!! Only a cyclist (or a runner) would understand!!

Was hoping to do a recovery ride yesterday morning, but it was already raining at 6:00 am when I got out of bed. Rained until 9-9:30 so I didn't ride as it turned very muggy after the rain. Did some work on my road bike and the wife's recumbent and then some work on my show car and called it a day. I should have done a short 10 mile neighborhood ride of something because my legs are still feeling the results of Saturday's two rides. Don't know if I will get any riding done today after work as it is already getting dark outside and looks like we are going to be in for another good drenching.

This morning I did 25.5 miles. It was beautiful - clear blue sky, 75ish, no humidity - quite a change from yesterday with Irene blowing through!
There was a *lot* of tree litter lining the sides of the roads. I had to be careful & keep my speed down on some of the busier roads, dodging around the branches, keeping out of the way of the cars.
We got a lot of rain yesterday, but the rivers were not running very high. The river pictured below usually runs to the right of the grassy clump.
The only big tree I saw down was on the local rail trail, it had already been cut up by the time I got there around 10:45.

12 miles late yesterday afternoon. Took the backup bike (V-Rex) after I discovered the seat frame of the main bike (V3) was in the process of breaking apart.
Zero today but I do plan to get up earlier and ride to work tomorrow.
