Great riding weather this morning and starting our first week of vacation off just right. Started off in the mid 70's and it's still a beautiful day out. The wife and I did 26 miles at our wilderness park MUP this morning. Not a very fast ride as I am teaching her some spinning and interval techniques to use on her tadpole trike. Tomorrow we ride for distance, then Tuesday, intervals and spinning again.

Rode 9 miles around my neighborhood. First ride in a week because it's been pouring rain ever since last Sunday. I got an early start and avoided the church crowd on our narrow little road, turned and rode past our daughter's high school sweetheart's home, and continued on through farm country. The corn and soybeans are looking pretty good. I passed an elaborate entrance to a subdivision that never happened, and up onto the limestone ridge that divides the farm country from exurbia. Some cows under a grove of trees looked at me as if they thought I was crazy to be toiling uphill in the hot sun.

Back in familiar territory on what I call the MUP road, I was sure I shouldn't be struggling so hard. When I got home, I checked my tire pressure, and found they're at 30 instead of 40-65. I turned on the air compressor, but Grampa's hidden the Schraeder valve somewhere. Guess he needs to be needed...he can take care of it when he gets home from work.

Took the recently established East River Ferry (two blocks from my home, seven minutes dock to dock) into New York City with my Cruz to visit my eldest daughter. Had an invigorating (albeit a bit cautious) ride through the city streets to & from, arriving home just a few minutes ago. The only minor problem with the ferry is that my bike (53 in. wheelbase) is a little too long to fit solidly into the bike rack, necessitating my remaining with it as we cross.
I might take a little night jaunt after a bit if I can get my headlight charged up in time.

29.81 miles today, a mix of roads, trails and stopping at all the bike shops in town that are open on a Sunday. Looking for a 13" framed, fitness bike for my wife to use for rec/commuting. Sunny, some cloudy, low 80's a very sweet day to ride and look at bike candy!!

Ten miles late this afternoon, including a short, steep hill and another hill of moderate length, moderate steepness; the two most significant hills nearby.

60 mile loop in the countryside north of Indy. Noblesville, Cicero (stop for breakfast), Bakers Corner, Sheridan, Jolietville, Zionsville (stop for snack and iced tea) and back home again. A nice ride, but I felt flat the whole way. Still glad I got out and rode, though. Hope I feel fresher for this Saturday's Pie Ride.

44 miles with a couple of new club members. One is relatively new to cycling and has been very enthusiastic and increasing his distance and difficulty rapidly. He mapped the route based on one I had laid out several years ago when the BRAG Spring Tuneup Ride was held in Milledgeville. Lots of hills and he handled them very well.

I'll probably do a couple of afternoon rides this week and then relax before the century in Cartersville next Saturday.

First weekday of my vacation and it did not get off to a very good start. It was the first hard ride I was attempting since last Monday. I forgot to take my Zyrtec this morning before going on my ride and had a unpleasant running nose and watery eye ride for 43 miles. My last five miles were so slow that I thought I saw buzzards circling overhead. Tomorrow is a nice and easy recovery ride on the hybrid.

20 miles on my Lemond on my training ride, then 5 miles on the bent to and from the pool for a swim.

I am so pleased with two things:

1. My training ride - purposely attacking all the hills I can find around here - is getting easier. I am able to do it pretty good in my middle chain ring, while previously had to use the small on my triple.

2. I am gaining more endurance in my swimming, being able to go more easily on my laps, etc.

It is great to see progress when one is 71!!

I went about 8 miles on some park dirt paths this morning, took the opportunity to do some geocaching. Got too hot about noon to stay out, so went back to the car and packed it all up and went home.

Got in about 34 miles on a breezy day. I used a gravel road to bypass a closed section of the North Branch MUP. My CX bike feels right at home while doing a little trekking.

Did 12 miles (6 out and then back) on the Cross Florida Greenway which is a multi-use section of dirt trails and roads. A co-worker and I used the shared use dirt road. Nice quiet ride and wasn't too hot this morning. Didn't see any one else on the entire trails. It tends to get most of its traffic on the weekends.

17 miles, mostly looking for my wife's next bicycle. Whew, it's hell to find a 13 in. framed fitness bike, that's affordable but we've narrowed it down to "2" in our price range. Warm day, 85+ but it's going downhill asap, Wed/Thursday, 70% chance of rain and on in the 50 F, temps wise. LOL, my new Jamis Coda Sport will probably get here on Wed or Thurs.,

Beautiful morning on our second day of staycation and perfect a morning for a bike ride. Low to Mid 70's at 7:00 am when we started and it was still nice weather at the end of the ride. I rode the hybrid today, with the wife, and did a slow paced, 15 mile ride.

13 mile training ride on the MUP. Just a couple of walkers and the maintenance truck. Headwinds tough again today.
