21.38 miles, checking out the progress on a new part of the Midland Trail (MUP), was suppose to be done by the end of August but now it's looking like "maybe" the end of October. Also dropped off some "accessiories" at the LBS for my wifes, new bike, (2011 KHS Vitamin A, fitness bike), when it comes in. Really nice day, kinda cool breeze, fall is coming fast, here in So. Colorado!

My normal 16 mile after work ride. Excellent weather for a bike ride; no sun and temps in the 80's. Came home, had dinner and did another 5 miles with the wife in the neighborhood before it got dark. I'm not liking this getting dark early thing. It cuts into my ride time.

We each have them on our bikes (front and rear). I live in a small subdivision out in the country and there are no street lights in the neighborhood and it really gets dark. At times, it's hard to see the road.

I have double lights - pretty bright - on two bikes that work quite well on the MUPS, but I would not use them for highway. For that, I would want one of those expensive lights with a dyno hub of some sort.

30 miles under threatening skies, very light rain for a few miles here and there but all in all a good ride.
Thing about the rain was that I was going to ride no matter, bad day at work and a bike ride in whatever weather was going to change all that, it did too.

Rode 24 miles on the weekly club ride. Luckily I looked at my rear tire just before we started and noticed that the outer casing was worn through and the inner casing was showing.
Scary ... and I know better than to not check them before every ride. I live near the start point and went home for a quick swap for the Salsa. I could feel the extra 6 lbs and the fat 37mm tires, but had a good ride.

This getting dark early thing will only be a problem until the end of October. I turned in my retirement notice yesterday and I'm looking to be in the saddle pretty much all morning, every morning when that day comes. The last time I did the retirement thing, I went to work on a 4 to 6 month contract just to give me something to do. That was 4 years ago. I'm not making that mistake again.

Temporarily living further from work, so I'm doing a little bicycle commuting. I guess I don't really have the right mindset for it, though. Whereas a 20 mile recreational bike ride seems too short, a 10 mile commute seems too long. I think it's because I'm headed to work and thinking about what needs to get done and therefore not really focused on enjoying the ride. Maybe the ride back home at the end of the day will be better.

Morning commute yet again. It's been fun commuting lately with 40f lows and 85f highs - winter in the morning, summer in the evening. Also, it's been almost 3 weeks since I returned from a 2-1/2 week bike-free vacation, and I'm finally remembering how to ride...

15 miles on the MUP. Had to slow down a couple of times almost to a stop, elderly walkers didn't know what the bell meant lol No headwinds to speak of today, so a pretty nice ride. Got to try a new saddle, though, the stock mountain bike seat just isn't cutting it any more.

Solo 52 mile bike ride from Chicago to Lake Bluff and back. Temps were between 50 and 60F, overcast with 5 minutes of drizzle. Had a bowl of soup at Panara at the half way point. I always feel a little underdressed when wearing cycling shorts on a cool day.
18.4 mph average pace with a fast second half of the ride.

Rode to (and from) work today. Got going at 645 this morning and it was fairly dark! Need to add a second headlight next early ride.

No riding yesterday. Got off work and came home to a thunder storm that dropped 2 1/2" of rain within an hour. It is supposed to do that again tonight but I hope it at least gives me time to get the bikes ready for our charity ride tomorrow morning.

I don't mind buying the right lights, it's just that we don't ride at night that much to warrant them. As mentioned, I am retiring at the end of next month and the wife will be retiring in December, so all of our riding will be done during the daytime; except for organized night rides.

Monumental Day! The wife actually got up early and went for a ride with me at 6:00 am this morning. We went for a 5 mile high gear spin, concentrating on high cadence. Should be a good prep for longer rides this weekend.

YESSSSSSS.....
Finally, after a week of staring at my "Bike With No Back Wheel", the shop called yesterday afternoon. I got the wheel, put it on and adjusted the rear derailer last night. This morning I went out at 5am and rode my usual rout out to a place called Doe Mountain and back.
A little over twenty one miles.
I pushed it and it hurt and it was Wonderful.

Did a 50K, Miles for Hope charity ride in Clearwater to benefit brain cancer. Excellent ride along the Gulf beaches but it had two killer bridges; long enough and tall enough to let large sailing ships go under. Got plenty of practice riding standing and lots of spinning. Great ride
