First ride on the road bike in two months. It felt real good to ride again even if it was a shorter ride than normal. I was still pooped when I got home. Amazing how one looses fitness from an illness.

Rode 25+ mi. yesterday in lovely weather. Will probably ride double that on the LBS ride tomorrow.
Today was a 12 mi. run, staying on track training for a 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks. Riding sure hurts less.

20 mile ride on the Screamer with my stoker today. Partly sunny in the 50's. A little breezy but that was good on the way back.

33 mile ride at dawn. Rain is expected, so riding early allowed for a dry if cool ride. 35f to start, 45f at finish.

27 miles today with the start at 36°F(2.2°C) and 45°(7.2°) at the finish--nice a blustery too which added a "lovely" wind chill factor.

Very cold and icey 5 miles. Riding shotgun for the wife as she jogged. I had on my motorcycle cold weather gloves, and 3 layers, plus face mask. Temps were about 31 degrees.. Ouch!!

Another 20 mile ride today: Same route as yesterday's tandem ride. Again partly cloudy, 50's and breezy.

Rode in the "Classic" (165 km) version of Fitz's Challenge. There were extreme versions of 205 and 265 km, but Classic was PLENTY for me. Perfect weather and great countryside- especially for a tourist like myself - and the feature is Fitz's Hill - averaging over 10% over 3 km, with significant stretches at 13-15%. And then the hills just keep coming....The ride is advertised as "more than 2.3 km of climbing", which is 7500 feet, but in the end it was more than 9500 feet. (And I've never done a ride with more than 5500 feet of climbing before). A wonderful ride, but yeah, exhausting.

NealH and I rode the Tour de Franklin today. It was a rather cold start of 28º but it warmed nicely later in the ride to the upper 50s. I started this ride way too fast given my current level of fitness and paid heavily for it later in the ride. Around the 3 hour mark we started a 4.5 mile 1500' climb that finished me off. I limped in to the finish from there. It wasn't pretty. Beautiful day in fall colors to be on the bike. At the 30 mile mark we returned to the cars to change clothes to lighter and drier layers. Great lunch after.

41 mi. on the shop ride. Big group, about 25 or so, nice mix of racers/non-racers. I averaged 17 mph, 113 avg. HR, 91 avg. rpm. Small chainring all the way. Sun was abundant and by mile 30 I shed the arm warmers. It was close to 60* when we finished. We make it a point to ride with people we don't usually ride with (double paceline) and I had the privilege of riding with people w/whom I'd never ridden before. It was glorious and so much fun!

I did 19 miles. I enjoyed my climb out of the Shenandoah River gorge. I had to stop once and stretch some cramps out.

29 miles on the Withlacoochee Trail - Inverness to Istachatta Store and return. Big to-do in Inverness, vendors and artists and lots of people. Great fun! Not a lot of folks on the trail today - too bad, temps in the mid 70's and beautiful. They missed a great day.

After two weeks off the bike to recover from walking pneumonia, I rode 43 miles with a buddy yesterday. Felt great to be back on the bike on a beautiful sunny day with temps right around 60. We kept a calm pace throughout the ride with no heroics on the climbs and I felt good but tired by the end.

After two weeks off from a chest cold that wouldn't go away, the wife and I got a chance to ride yesterday. She hasn't ridden in almost a month so we took it nice and easy and enjoyed the scenery on our 14 mile ride.
Woke up to rain this morning (my first day of my final retirement) but it is suppose to stop before noon and clear up. Since I now have all this time on my hands, I am going to try for a 40+ mile ride later in the day. It's suppose to get into the low 80's with a nice 10 mph wind. Let's see how bad this cold set me back.
