15 miles on a very sunny but cool day. Had some moderate headwinds and a few killer gusts that came out of nowhere and nearly knocked me of the bike. I'm ready for the charity ride tomorrow morning.

Wanted to ride before my Dr. appt. but it was rainy. Rain doesn't bother me, but with the cold, I didn't want to be wet and cool. Got great news at the Doc concerning my diabetes control. The sky cleared while on the way to the docs and when I got home I did my 20--man, it was windy and the gusts just kicked my butt.

No riding for me today, I have been ignoring the leaves in the yard and need to get them taken care of. It's a little cool here in CT today, high in the mid 40's (so they are saying), but warming up to the low 60,s by Tuesday. I'll try to get out a few times next week, but I'm a full time college kid (at 55!) and things are a little hectic with classes right now. I went to a LBS yesterday and looked at a Trek 7.5, leftover 2011 model. Very tempting. I got into a conversation with the owner, and he said he had about 200 vintage bikes in the basement. He invited me to go look at them. Everything from those old bikes with about a seven foot front wheel to some Schwinn Stingrays. A real nice collection, he said he rode about half of them a few times a year.

Rode the 25 mile leg of the Cure on Wheels ride to benefit the local cancer research hospital. I was hoping to do the 100K but some of the team members (firefighters) were working today and had to get back to work, so the team opted to do the shorter ride. Nonetheless, a great ride.
Afternoon edit: Wife wanted to go riding this afternoon. Her first ride in almost a month, so we did a 5 mile neighborhood ride. Tomorrow, we go to Bike Bash for a day of cycling festivities. Both of us are volunteering to work it so we will be there all day.

42 miles with my local group. It was chilly this morning so I had to wear tights and my wool base layer for the first time this year. We had rain yesterday but perfect weather for the ride today.

Frustrating day but it could have been worse. I took the new bike out for a ride but the shifting was off. I never could get the DI2 to work correctly since being moved to this frame. Something isn't right yet. I was supposed to get up early, drive almost 2 hours to ride a metric so sleeping in was a good thing this morning. Back to the LBS I go.

20 miles in mid-60s F clear air - A beautiful day.
Had breakfast with wife and daughter at a local greasy spoon with good breakfasts. Took w&d to the fabric store, so I walked down the shopping center a bit and milled around in Harbor Freight until they were done. Went to PetSmart and then to the LBS to talk about my more-road-ish bike purchase plans. No bike picked out yet, but hopefully we're getting closer. After that it was home for us then the bike ride for me.
A bit of wind (10-15 MPH) which always seemed to be in my face no matter which way I turned... I must be doing something wrong.
All in all a good day.

Planned to ride farther today but took the Short option when it came up on the ride today. 26 miles seemed like enough.
The chipseal road surfaces convinced me to switch back to a 26x1.5" tire on the rear instead of 1.25". Done.

Had to work off the extra slice of pizza from last evening and some chips and dip. Did 28 miles in 1 hr 45 min, overall avg of 16mph with a headwind that seemed to change direction just to toy with me.

My wife joined me on one of our favorite 20 mile loops this morning. She hasn't been on her bike for a while and she enjoyed getting out for a ride. She loves her under 15# bike! lol

51 miles in WINDY conditions and mild temps. A 15 mph steady SW wind and 30 mph gusts aided our northbound portion. However, pushing against that wind for 28 miles on the return trip was work. Temps were 45 to 55f under cloudy skys. 2 hours and 38 minutes.

I did my 20 mile loop on back roads and a few miles through the woods. Real nice day here in New England.

Kinda breezy but was about 60F and sunny most of my 25 mile ride this afternoon. The wind was a good thing most of the way back.
Not meaning to be pessimistic, but this could have been the last warmish, sunny ride of the year!

Warmish (55F), but gloomy and windy (20+mph SSW). Changed my 13T cog to a 15T on my S3X and rode about 30 miles. Good call on the cog change; I would have been toast with the 13T.

I rode 24 mi along the Schuylkill River Trail in the Valley Forge, Pa., area. Beautiful day for a ride. Deep blue sky, with bright sunlight hightlighting the vivid fall foliage.

Rode the Giro d' Vino 100K on the tandem. This is a very flat ride out of Acampo, CA (near Lodi). Optional stops at 10-12 Wineries along the way. The rain held off, no wind and the temps were only coolish (mid 40's to maybe 55 or so.

Don't mince words
Yes. Stats if you want them.
What the stats don't tell: The invigorating scent of wet eucalyptus. The earthiness of wet, plowed fields. The crispness of rain-cleared air. The oppressiveness of chicken-dung fertilized orchards.
I don't have pictures of big, pillowy cumulus clouds blowing through, alternately obscuring and sharing the sun. We went from 48* at the start to 55* 129 min. later, so I was glad to have my layers.
I love cycling in fall.

After not riding yesterday because I volunteered to work the Bike Bash, I decided to do a 30+ mile ride today. Got all the way to the wilderness park where I normally ride and realized that I left my water bottles at the house. It's a good thing that they have water stations positioned every 1.5 miles on the loop. Since I had to stop so many times for water, I ended up doing 15 miles on a beautiful but very windy day. I'm putting an empty water bottle in the truck and leaving it there in case this happens again. Tomorrow is another day.

Last Saturday Ginny and I put the tandem on the roof rack and drove to Chicago where we met 2 dozen or so bicyclists for a tour of the Austin area of Chicago. Ride leader, Lee took us past many beautiful mansions, some dating back to the 1800's. What a great way to spend a beautiful Autumn Saturday in Chicago! Thank you, Lee!
