Was going to do a 28 mile ride and 20 miles into it, I stopped at the LBS(local bike shop for those who may be new). I know I'm going to be getting a different bike...likely in Spring if I don't fall in love with one I see in the shop. Looked around and took one out on a test...probably road a couple of miles. Got back on my bike and went home--25.5 miles on the Diamondback--so I went at least 27.5 miles today.
Not sure I can wait until Spring. |
Went for a short ride with my wife this afternoon, another real nice day!

23 miles this morning.

About 20 miles to-and-from work today. Close to 70F this afternoon. Downtown Indy streets are improving as we get closer to the Super Bowl - lots and lots repaving and other improvements have been going on for months. (No, I don't expect to see the Colts in the Super Bowl)

I don't think anyone expected to see the Cards in the World Series, either. Keep holding out hope, and nice to see the downtown streets in Indy are improving.

30 miles at my usual wilderness park on a gorgeous day. 82º with mild to moderate winds and a slight overcast that was enough to keep the sun from beating on me. Today is my off day, so no riding today. I'll be hitting some of the LBS to see what they have in saddles as the padding on my OEM is starting to get compressed and it's getting a little hard on the sit bones.

You only get better as you get a bit older. Next year - 73 miles in 1.5 hours. |
OTG,
Is that a 1972 yellow Super Sport? I bought one of those brand new and loved it. Sold it in 2005 after I bought my LeMond Tourmalet. Wish I still had it. I am still using the Brooks saddle on our tandem. |
23 miles again today.

My friend just purchased a bike trailer for her 11 month old son and she wanted to ride someplace easy for their first ride, so we met at the local rail trail this afternoon. It was 64* and sunny, just lovely.
Well, as soon as I pulled into the parking lot, I saw that it was not going to be easy as we thought! Just from the parking lot, I could see 3 trees across the trail, brought down by the freak Oct snow storm we had last week. As I was looking, a woman rode around one of the trees and told me that it was like that most of the way down the trail, but, except for a couple of places where you had to lift the bike over, most of the trees could be ridden around. My friend arrived and after taking a quick look, and getting the trail report, we decided to give it a try. Zak was secured in the trailer, given a couple of toys and off we went. There were two places we had to stop to lift the bikes & trailer over - she picked up her bike and I grabbed the back of the trailer, and together we lifted them over - the rest of the time we road around, or ducked under. I had to laugh at the idea that rather adventurous ride was Zak's first ride with his Mom because she, at the age of 24, rode the Great Divide mtb trail (much of the way solo) has ridden the VT 50 mtb race a number of times, and planned one of the best bike tours I ever taken where we rode from the Kingdom Trails in E. Burke VT to Killington Vt, much of it on class 6 roads. It just seemed so fitting. Today we did 13 miles and Zak seemed to enjoy it! |
Yes I did ride today and it wore me out for some reason. :o

45 min. test ride on a Specialized Roubaix SL3 Pro. Nice ride.

Tuesday afternoon, in between shuttling our daughter to her destinations and showing property, I squeezed in a hilly 19+ miles, with about 1600+ ft. of climbing, in 84 min. My avg. speed was 13 mph. Lovely weather, good roads, decent temps...no wonder this is my favorite time of year.
|
Rode my 23. I was doing great when a fog rolled in and the temp dropped 5 degrees--I still was okay, but the wind started kicking up and chewed my butt. Only reason I did 23 miles in just under 1 hour 25 min(avg of 16.2 mph) is because the first half had been pretty fast. Had the whole ride been that way, I would've probably had an overall avg of 17 mph.
I think I'm getting to the limit of this hybrid--actually, I'd call it a comfort bike, not a hybrid. Probably need to get a fitness(hybrid with 700c x 28 or 32 tires and other than the flat bar, pretty much roadie with flat) or go full roadie. I tested a Giant rapid 3, but I didn't like the grips. |
Yes I did ride today. Yesterday was rainy, today windy and the next three days rain. Whats up with this weather. This is the desert after all. Anyway I got a little hill climbing in this morning.

No ride for me today, raining pretty hard here in Connecticut right now.

Another 30 miler today at the usual place on a gorgeous day.

Thursday did my once-weekly hill repeat ride on Black Mtn in Canberra - 760 ft over 1.8 miles for each repeat. I managed 5, for a total climbing of ~3800 ft. in less than 20 miles, but the 5th one HURT. I'm pretty happy, though. I started with 3 repeats when I arrived here in early October, then moved to 4. Yesterday, after 4, I decided I could squeeze out one more.
Last night my legs had that exquisite fatigue. Maybe it's masochistic, but I just love that feeling once I"m off the bike. I think a small chainring recovery ride is in order today. |
Didn't plan on it, but almost a sprint triathlon today.
Start - about 38F Finish - about 50F Jumped on the mtn bike to go to the rec center to swim, not planning on a ride. Swam quite a bit - more than you would for a sprint tri, then got back on the bike - street clothes - and started up the path - just kept going and ended up with 20 miles (13 needed for a sprint tri), then walked a couple of miles - 3.3 needed for a sprint tri. So, I am short about 1.5 miles for my sprint tri today  |
In honor of 11-11-11, George H lead a ride of 111,111 feet today. There were 7 of us, including George. He took us through Woodridge, Downers Grove, Westmont, and Carenden Hills. My stoker didn't want to bundle up for the 40 something degree temperatures, so I rode my single. Thank you, George.
