Did a short, 26.2 mile recovery ride. Decided to do some maintenance on the bike, noticed some roughness in the stoker's BB, discoverd this:

Well, we did hit 2000 miles on the tandem either this weekend or last. That's in 10 months.

Wife and I did a great 2 part tandem ride on Saturday. Part 1 was an easy 35 miles with 1400' of climbing. For Part 2 we then met our son , 10 y/o grandson and 5 y/o grandson at MacDonalds. The little guy was on a trail-a-bike behind his Cat 2 dad. We rode 3-4 miles to the start of a local MUP and met the DiL. The whole crew did a 10 mile total out and back on the MUP with the little one riding his "single" at a mad cadence; he really needs some gears and will be getting a new bike for his upcoming birthday.

High calorie lunch at Chili's finished off our 50 mile day. We're looking forward to many more of these rides and I'm thinking about a kid stoker kit for the daVinci so I can get the little guy up to speed!

I'm also plotting to blackmail my son into captaining the tandem on a century that my wife can't schedule.

Did 26.4km somewhere new today.....it was sunny but not too hot so shirt sleeves were good. There were a couple of areas where I was cycling into a headwind which made it tough going.... Karen

First time in weeks that it was cool enough to take the dog out in the trike. Did 22 miles. Conversations with friends are possible on the roll at the slow speed of the trike.

30 mile club ride, plus another 12-13 in the round trip to and from the ride terminus. In the morning, on my way to the ride, my legs felt heavy and tired, but as soon as the club ride began, I had pep. The ride, including a leisurely stop at a coffee shop, was swell, lots of good efforts, but not too crazy.

This is a good example of the value of club rides for some of us. Perhaps if it were a solo ride my legs would have revived after the warm up, but once the comradery and entertainment of the group dynamic kicked in, tired legs were besides the point.

And I'm regaining my endurance. This was only the 4th ride above 40 miles since I resumed riding in mid-July. It's noticeably easier now than it was just a few weeks ago. I'm looking forward to being up for greater distances.

30 miles + 3 miles cool down--33 miles total.

A bit more traffic on the road since primary, secondary, and high schools have begun the new year. I'll need to be extra careful during the times when high school kids are driving. Drivers can be bad enough, but inexperienced teen drivers need extra attention.

After a no-ride day yesterday, this morning was a great time to get in a 30 mile, daily ride. Temps in the mid 70's when I started and never got out of the low 80's by the time I stopped. No rain in the last four days has really helped recede the water at the MUP. Hooray! Everything was passable today.

A short and relaxed 14 mile ride with my two twenty-something daughters. My oldest daughter is relocating from NYC to Italy and will spend three weeks in Chicago. My second daughter has been in Chicago for the last four years and rides with me several times a year. It was a warm morning but the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path was splendid.

Well kiinda rode. All geared up and move bike to takeoff. OPS flat. OK first one. Gear off. New tube - take my time. inflate, gear back on (forgot phone this time) and go. First few miles rough chipseal with smooth stuff on corners and intersections. Second corner noticed wheel not rolling smoothly - turn around and head for house. About 1.5 miles from house flat #2. Pump at home - phone at home. This begining to sound like a bad day? Going to work traffic all gone by now. Walked 1.6 miles on chipseal in stocking feet. Total miles 2.1 in about 1.5 hours.

Easy 20 mile ride on the tandem - tapering for a 100K this Saturday. We waited until 10 am so the temps would be up a bit.

A quick 10 miles along the Columbia River. Average 20.3 mph in a balmy 82 degrees. Beautiful day!

Came upon a young Latino fella that was walking a Campy equiped Austro-Daimler. He flatted his back tire. I offered him my tire levers and the spare tube I carry in my jersey pocket for such occasion and discovered that he was running tubulars. Tough luck for him, he said he had about a 3 mile walk home. No spare.

Scary thing is that he didn't speak english real well and didn't remember the name for sew-ups or tubulars. He showed me the 700c tube wouldn't work by pulling his tire away from the rim and showing me the bottom side. It wasn't glued!

We talked for a minute and I found out that he's pretty new to bikes and he had traded his 2nd car for the bike. He didn't know much about them, but I took the time to explain the need to glue his tires onto his rims. He'd never had that explained to him by the guy that had the bike before.

Nice kid! I hope to run into him again and maybe ride with him.

No kidding. Even though the temps weren't all that high for last night's shop ride, the water was just pouring off my head by the time I was halfway through. Plus it was the first weeknight training ride I'd been able to attend since late July (seriously) and it just about killed me. Especially when the shop owner tapped me to lead my group, when I can barely hang with them when I've been riding regularly. Pacing them for 5 miles to get out of town wiped me out and the rest of the evening was spent hiding in the pack, then dropping off to shepherd those at the rear, and finally limping home alone.

BTW, Jan, you riding Hilly Hundred again this year?

Nice 30 mile ride this morning. A little more humid than yesterday but still very tolerable thanks to the lower temps.

Not quite today, but I did put in 27 miles last night, did a evening ride before I went to the Colorado Springs Cycling Club monthly meeting, got home about 10 PM. It's always weird riding in the dark!

I got back from last night's ride after midnight so.... yeah, I rode today.

A relatively easy 14 miles on the 2-speed. I didn't want to push too hard because I've started a low-carb diet and didn't want to run my reserves down too much.

Great day for me after a dismal yesterday. Longest ride, 42 miles AND fastest @ 15mph. Next goal - 50 miles. With cooler weather coming, that might not be far away.

But, of course! Got my confirmation in the mail last week. Riding Saturday with a high school buddy (old like me) and Sunday with my stoker on the tandem. Hope to run into you - not literally.
