Last night spin session 80 minutes. Focusing on cycling and running this year, no triathlon. Forgot what hard cycling efforts are like. Even 80% efforts hurt, though I guess a good hurt. Sets of either cadence increase or gear increase with cadence increase.

Yesterday I had a session with the dermatologist - PDT treatment where they put a cream on your face and shine a special light on it for 17 minutes. It leaves your face similar to a rotting tomato.

So, you are supposed to be not exposed to any non-flourescent light for 48 hours - that means the sun.

So, I got up early and rode 10 miles on the mtb bike with the lights before the sun arose. Temperature was 40F. It was fun. (I am also not supposed to be exposed to any computer screens, but I am cheating this am).

All the intentions of doing a 30 to 35 mile ride this early am--about 17 miles into it I hit a nail and puncture my rear tire. After getting a new tube in(after a lot of work--see my post about the adventure) I only have time to ride home and make it a total of 22 miles.

15 miles, then I just got tired of fighting the 30 to 40 mph wind gusts and headed home, just didn't have the will to HTFU.

422 miles the past 6 days.

THEN: My First Crash after 36,000 miles on The Yellow Bike.

4.6 miles, standing to sprint behind 7 cars at a light, the left crank arm flys off and my left knee takes the entire impact of the crash.

Pic if you want see?

Put the crank back on a pedaled home with the right leg.

8.5 miles today.

Ouch. Good luck and fast healing with the knee.

How did the crank fall off? A bolt just come loose after so much riding?

(That's a warning to everyone to check the mechanical condition of the bike every so often.)

35 miles early am. I got up extra early since I needed to get ready and be somewhere by 07:00(which necessitated my being back by 06:00. Got up at 03:30 and was off just a tad before 04:00(got back about 05:40). Then I find out that I was too early and had to wait until 07:30. I could've fit another 7 or 8 miles in.

@10Wheels,
OUCH!!! Heal quickly.

I got 30km done this morning. Oh boy, it's chilly though. I stopped for tea halfway into the ride and felt colder when I got back on the bike.....might have to leave the tea till the end during the winter rides.....

We did 20.27 miles on the tandem today. Bright leaves, cool air, and a hurricane threatening in a few days. This must be autumn.

25 rapid miles. Completed the first hour with a 20 mph average.

Having a solid tail-wind for the first 12 miles helped :-) It's fun holding 22 to 27 mph on level roads.

I don't know which is more impressive, the miles or the ride home after the crash.

Same thing with me this morning. Sandy has been throwing some really strong winds at us the past few days. Today's ride was cut in half (I did 15 or my normal 30 miles) because of the crosswinds. On two occasions, the bike actually tilted as if it were going down. It was like riding along a road and having a continuous line of semi trucks passing you at a high rate of speed for 15 miles. At one point, I actually got off the bike and walked it for about a block until the winds died down. Give me headwinds over strong cross winds any time.

Saw some bright colors:

Nope, no riding today; I don't ride on Fridays, as on two separate occasions I've ended up in the hospital on Friday rides. But that was a long time ago. Today I "rode" a Schwinn Airdyne for 30 minutes, and also was on an eliptical trainer for 30 minutes. But yesterday I rode 22 miles on two separate rides (one a ride, one going to church for choir practice). And the day before, I rode 12.75 miles to a park and back.

Rode my age + 1, well, + 1.7. 55.7 miles this am fighting a nasty headwind or crosswind for about 90% of the ride.

I'm not likely to get a ride for the next 2 or 3 days--good ol' Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy. I may loose power, hopefully not for long or at all.

22.5 sunny miles this morning with a friend. About 45F when we left, around 50 when we finished, with a 12 MPH N/NE wind. About 1/4 calm, 1/4 quartering tailwind and 1/2 quartering headwind. Although 45 really isn't cold compared to what lots of you ride in, I have no cold weather gear. A synthetic T-shirt, jersey and thin windbreaker (with arm and leg warmers) barely did the job for a little while. But I got OK as time went on. Then again, give me these same conditions after a few months of colder weather and I'll be much more comfortable with a bit of acclimation under my belt.

Maybe I need to put together a Christmas list...
