Shelled on a cat 6 by some guy on a hybrid. I was riding my full carbon expensive road bike. I guess it doesn't matter that it was my first ride in over two weeks because of a back injury.

I'm heading over to the recreational forum to see if someone posted a "crushed some old poseur on a full carbon road bike" yet.

Had an episode with A-Fib and bonked 10 miles from home. Crawled home and slept two hours.

27 miles with three friends today in the early morning humidity, including a little sprinkle here and there. Decent temps overall, but massively muggy. Good incentive to keep moving. First ride with my SPDs and no falls (where's that 'kiss of death' smiley when you need it??)

IBOHUNT 06-01-13 03:03 PM

Philly TT. 15 miles of warm up for an 8 mile TT. :backpedal:

You won't ever do a horizontal track stand.

...but if I'm not careful, I might do a horizontal track fall, considering the poor shape of some of the railroad crossings around here!

I think I need to tweak the alignment of the right cleat, since that foot is ever so slightly toed-in. Well, within the range of float, but not quite where I'd like it.

OK I'm coming forward with this now. Passed a guy pulling a baby carriage a couple months ago and he passed me back. I got that sucker on the hill though.

32 mile group ride. Only my third or fourth hilly ride this year. Didn't drink enough water and got dehydrated. I need to remember to drink a lot at least 1 hr before a ride and much more during the ride. Did better coming back from the rest stop than going out.

Bikey Mikey 06-02-13 05:40 AM

35 miles this AM in the new shoes.

Did a 45 km (27 mi) ride today; alone because my cycle-mate only could ride early in the morning... and today being my first day off I slept late :)
Hadn't been on the bike all week... not good..... sometimes working shifts and having to spend your spare time working on your motorcycles st*nks.

My plan was to change tactics; ride somewhere I didn't ride before, beforehand plan my route and enjoy the scenery and the ride.
First 1/3 part of the ride I battled a strong headwind, on the second stretch (along a canal with forest in the background) the wind blew from the side and the last third I had a backwind; nice!! ;)

Since the headwind didn't help my speed and me feeling good/strong I started to concentrate on making up for lost time while riding along the canal. Once in awhile I go fishing there with my wife and when the fish is reluctant to bite I envy the people riding that nice asphalt bikepath; now I was on it I couldn't care less.... my eyes were on the speedometer. Too bad.

There was a lot of (bike)traffic on the bikepaths today; one of the first nice days of the year brings out everyone (and me). The biggest problem is (older) people hearing my bicycle-bell, moving over to the right and then -as I pass them- tend to take a look over their left shoulder and swerve into my direction...... (not a real problem as I always slow down to almost a crawl).

The last part of my ride went through a National Parc; forest on one side of the nice wide bikepath and dunes on the other side; a lovely scenery. But city?-people overhere drive overthere in masses for a walk in nature... only to walk right on the asphalt bikepath and NOT on the pedestrianpath which is hardpacked sand......
So my plan to enjoy the scenery got binned and I spent that part trying to avoid people and going slowwwww.....

But; when I got home Strava showed me an average of 28.4km/h (17.1 mi/h) so I was happy -being a novice and riding an all steel, 30 year old 12 speed Peugeot. :D
All in all I had a nice ride; have to work on enjoying the scenery and the ride in general and remember that Sunday isn't the best day for rides on recreational bikepaths.

Was scheduled to do a 54 mile ride with my riding buddy this morning but the rain took the ride off the schedule. It finally stopped long enough for me to clean the grease off the Colnago, lube the chain and get in a 10 mile neighborhood ride on the hybrid. It started to get dark again during the ride, but never did start to rain.

Club ride today - J.A.W.S. - from Trafalgar to Brown County and back. Did my first metric century of the year.
The fellow -bless his soul - who set the route must not like cyclists because every possible hill/climb/grind in the vicinity was included.
I literally lost count of how many hills I walked. In spite of that, I climbed more hills today than on any ride that I can remember. Of course, I have the memory of a middle-aged man.
Pleasantly surprised at how stable my short wheelbase 'bent is at 3-4mph.
The fellow - bless his soul - who set the route must really like cyclists because there were literally a ton of downhills.

Did you recently add a SWB to your stable? Anyway, I can barely keep my bike upright in my 30X32 or whatever it is, which defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.

Reminds me of the motto of the Tour de Pork jerseys: I've never met a hill I couldn't walk up.

Dudelsack 06-02-13 04:00 PM

Anyway, I did a LSD ride, pretty far but still shorter than Bob because he'll check my mileage and go out and ride some more until he passes me.

Saw a lot of mechanicals today and I stopped at every single one. The only one who needed my assistance was a cute 20 year old girl fussing with her kid brother's bike. Just some fiddling with a few bolts and their respective Allen wrenches, but heck, she asked me if I were an Ironman. I've never ever been suspected of being an Ironman. It made my day.

I've had a SWB V-Rex since '08. Added the LWB V3 late in '09. Since then, the V3 has been my go-to club ride bike until this year. Riding the Rex more this year, especially on the hillier rides south of Indy. The V3 excels on flat rides and the Rex seems to be better suited to climbing. Both bikes have 30x32 low gearing but the front wheel of the V3 starts wandering down around 6-7 mph. Finding that low speed behavior is less of an issue with the Rex. They both fly going down hills.

I spent the weekend on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP.

Saturday: Big Meadows south to Waynesboro, and back. 119 miles, 9.9K of climbing.
Sunday: Front Royal to Big Meadows and part of the way back**, 80 miles and 9K or so of climbing.

**while climbing up Hogback, about 20 miles from the start, I got hit by a horrendous thunderstorm. Probably the worst conditions I've ever ridden in. A nice couple in a pickup stopped to offer a lift, and it proved an offer I couldn't refuse. I was disappointed that I didn't make it back to the start, but... not THAT disappointed...

az_cyclist 06-03-13 07:56 AM

62.5 @ 17.3 on the club ride Saturday, and 35.4 @ 17.8 on a solo ride yesterday. Yesterdays ride was the warmest of the year so far, 93 when I started and 100 when I finished (well, I guess it was 99 when I finished Saturday)

26+ road miles on a beautiful sunny day. Sure can tell that I need more hill work!
