Put in 41 miles this morning with the Early Risers from the LBS. Yesterday I rode 32 miles on my own.
|
Rode from Buena Vista, VA up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, down to Peaks of Otter and back. 100.16 miles ( I wasn't going for bonus miles.) Just over 10K of climbing including the Thunder Ridge climb that does about 3000 feet in 13 miles.
Got super-soaked on the first part of the ride, while it was still in the low 50s. I considered bagging the ride, but the sun came out as I headed up Thunder Ridge. Most everything dried out on the ride except for my shoes and socks which remained squishy for the rest of the day. I was using some brand new Specialized shoes too, which wasn't a great idea. My feet were killing me, as was my butt. I'm getting really sick of having my legs and lungs do great, but being in major pain in my feet and rear end. I've tried just about everything at this point, but it's getting kind of discouraging. |
45 miles this AM.

Did 75 miles yesterday on the Canyon Classic out of Patterson CA. It was supposed to be 90miles to the top of Mount Hamilton and back, but that was not to be. I got to within 3 miles of the top and turned back. The air temp at that point was above 100 and my garmin was showing 115. About 8 miles before one of the rest stops on the way back I ran out of water. Luckily a SAG vehicle came by with water and I reloaded and meandered on. During the last section down Del Puerto canyon my garmin hit 1 degrees. This was a flat to mild downhill section with a fairly good (and hot) headwind. The last 3 miles into town the best I could do on flat road was about 8 miles an hour. I have never been that spent before.

A very nice ride with the Tampa Bay Sunday Riders group for a hot and humid 27 mile ride. About 20 riders this morning made for a moderate paced ride. Today's route is one of my favorite Sunday group ride. The other one is the ride to the beach.

I rode a cool and breezy 20 miles this a.m. Finally have some sun shining again in upstate NY.
|
24 Screamer miles - just my stoker and me - this morning.
|
It rained all day here, strong t'storm early morning woke me at 0300. I went ahead and rode this afternoon when the rain eased up to a steady drizzle for a while. Not too bad at all, comfortable temps and only a slight southeast breeze. Didn't want to break a 39 straight day ride segment.

Rode 16 miles today out through the Strawberry fields to the top of telephone rd and back, rode the last 6 miles with a fellow bike rider from Los Olivos.

24 mile rampage with the new cateye cadence computer. Interesting feedback that the cadence figures give a rider.
|
Been a while, but finally rode today... about 80F, overcast, and a surprising breeze which I discovered when I turned around to head home.. a nice headwind, at least for a while. All of 13.8 miles, but a 1 mph improvement in avg speed for the same perceived level of effort. Glad I am continuing with cardiac rehab in an unmonitored status... next goal is 17 to 18 miles distance... maybe on Wednesday, which is the next possible riding day.
Keepin on this side of the grass. Pete |

108 @ 16.0 on Saturday, Flagstaff to Happy Jack AZ and back, a club training ride for the Grand Tour in 2 weeks. 30.1 @ 12.5 on Sunday in Flag... recovery ride, but it was with an 80-yo gentlemen, life long cyclist, who started a chapter of the Arizona Bicycle club in Phoenix. He now lives in Flagstaff in the summers. I hope to be able to ride like that when I am in my 80's

Nope, not with 1600 riders on the track to talk with, sometimes ends with hug. Mary was riding for her 77 year old Diabetic Dad. She said I Inspired her to finish the ride. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=322422 |

Got in 40 miles with about 2200' of climbing on Sunday. These dead-end-ranch-road-climbs would be wonderful if the roads weren't in such bad shape; takes a bit of fun out of the downhill. The hills are pretty dry, but still a few cattle about and plenty of flattened cow manure on the road as I approached the ranch gate. I saw only one truck on the 16 mile round trip climb; the really bright side of these roads.
