Very hot this morning but the humidity was low with moderate winds. A nice 44 miles to start the day.
20 miles total to and from work.
Three of us rode hard for 46 miles, averaging 18 MPH. They are 60, 66 and me at 69 (years). What a joy until the two youngsters decided to ride 20.5 north home into the wind. Catch you later.
Getting stronger as a month ago wouldn't have been close to riding with them. |
16.1 miles @ 20.3 ave on a lunchtime ride
27 miles and a small bit of climbing yesterday.
did 35 miles on the fixed gear bike at 18.6 mph-mostly a flat course with 4 rollers and some grades. Had 70" gear and didn't have time to change to bigger gear for hanging with 5 racers in their 40s. Managed to hang in the draft for a 25 minutes section spinning 120-130 rpm-like a gerble. Got points for the old man on fixed hanging with them-need all the points I can get! Next week I will be armed with 80" :-)
I hope to get out of work early today and get a few miles in.
Another day with morning temps in the high 80's. Not much wind to help cool you off. A good 36 miles with my riding buddy.
32 miles after three days off.
I did my usual 30 mile round trip commute today. I rode the old faithful UO8. Had a flat but fixed it and rode on. Had a bit of light mist this morning but didn't rust away or dissolve. It was a good day.
Did 40 miles around town today with one break and one flat. Afterward, went on an errand on my motorcycle and got caught in a torrential thunderstorm on the way back.
I didn't make it out yesterday, got in 37 mi. this morning, averaged 19.3 mph even though I walked my bike through a loose recycled asphalt detour, twice.
20 miles to include a top speed of 46.1mph down a really good hill. I'd have tried for faster but I wasn't sure how much gravel or how rough the road was, next time!
51 flat mostly rural miles on a club ride this morning. Very large turnout-->just about perfect weather.
94 through rollers about 3500' of elevation. Was just going to do 80 training for a century on fixed gear but meet buddies as I was riding home and rode more with them.. Think I just did my century!
73 miles with just 3200 ft of climbing riding over the inlaws. I get to ride back home tomorrow! Good prep for the back to back day of riding for the upcoming tour in a couple weeks. My MIL had cooked a strawberry pie......
17 miles after to much yard work. Next time ride then yard. No ride tomorrow due blood donation.
71.0 @ 18.0 ave today on the club ride
Rode 26 mi around town, ended in a flat.
12.4 at 12.4. I am still young at this. I did 30 miles last Saturday. That was my longest ride to date.
I rode my longest distance on the W&OD trail today; 34 miles round trip. I'm wasted. The pollen will be the death of me I swear, but it was worth it.......well, except for Vienna and Herndon town centers. The buttons on the crossing signals must not be connected. In Vienna the car traffic stops both ways but the crossing light STILL stays red until almost five minutes go by. Just try crossing against it and you face the wrath of the Vienna PD.

WHEE! The big cycling club in the area does all-club rides on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. The ride probably numbers 150-200 people doing a few different overlapping routes at different speeds. The lead group is always intense.
Soo...I hung with the fast group for the first segment this morning - 27 miles to the first rest stop, with few stops signs, a modest tail wind, and a peloton of about 25. We averaged 23.2 MPH in that segment, and believe me, it was not difficult at all to keep up. In the middle of the group we spent plenty of time at 25-27 MPH and we didn't even pedal full time necessarily. The hard parts were closing gaps after turning corners and (of course) spending time on the front, which you didn't have to do if you didn't care to. I spent just a little time on the front. Alas, a few miles after the first rest stop, I flatted and the A-rider express was gone gone gone. There were plenty of other riders coming up from behind, so there was no need of their help (and I didn't need help fixing my flat), so that's fair. It was fun while it lasted, but they probably would have dropped me eventually anyway, as the terrane got tougher. Despite continued problems with the tire (it had a slow leak, I think because the valve was dodgy, and I had to stop a few times to pump it up, eventually I borrowed a second tube from a passing club rider), and more hills and head winds in the second half, I finished the day with 62 miles and 20.2 MPH average, riding chiefly in 2s and 3s or alone. Not a bad day. |

Rode an un-supported century today. Here it is on Strava:
Bike Ride Profile | Encanto to Wrightwood & Back Karen climbfest Century near Duarte | Times and Records | Strava Started out cool and overcast but the sun came out once we'd climbed past 3,000 foot mark and was a beautiful day after that. I was eating food out of my jersey pocket for the first 50 miles, then got a "junk food" lunch at Wrightwood (the half-way point) and a real lunch at Crystal Lake on the way back (75 mile point). This involved another climb (another 800 feet) but no problem; excellent lunch! Hit the overcast again as I descended under 3,000 foot mark but oh well . . . Kind of a long time: 10 hours, 12 minutes for 103 miles but there were 11,982 feet of climbing, so that's one reason why the time was so long. We did 40 miles on the tandem. Took a co-worker out too who hadn't done much riding lately. He did just fine, except for the flat near the finish.

I got out for about 75 miles and 3000' of uphills today while the clouds loomed above
