Steady wind gusts of over 30 mph throughout my 45 mile ride this morning. I'll be taking it easy the rest of the day.
|
My wife and I stopped over a n Crossville, TN on the way back to Illinois from South Carolina. We called up a 23 mile Strava route and took off. 2450' of climbing later, we were done. Whew! That's a lot of climbing in 23 miles for flat landers.

18 miles this afternoon by myself. Bit of wind on the way out but fortunately it didn't turn around when I did. Got back and while changing out of my bike shoes, bent over and pulled <something> a bit in my back. Not hugely major, but a bit painful nonetheless. Enough to create spontaneous inhalation when I move. :twitchy: I'll relax the rest of the afternoon and see if it gets better. What did I do to anger my back? :(

10 miles this afternoon in almost-50 degree weather, quite an improvement from the pre-winter winter temps we've been enjoying.

Great day to ride in Piedmont NC. 30 degrees at the start but slowly warmed up to the mid 50's. Very little wind which was nice. I slogged out 80 miles with 4000' of climbing at a very slow pace. Trying to get in good enough shape to do the weekly 100 milers in December. I ran into multiple detours with bridges under construction, stopped to talk to a couple ostriches, had to ride around a Christmas parade and talked to a couple hunters that bagged an 8 pointer this morning. I had slowed them down on a hill and saw them at a store just up the road. Very friendly guys.......

Managed to ride just ahead of the rain that's falling right now, 25 miles this afternoon. Some soft rain and a steady mist while I was out, nothing bad at all. Temperatures were moderate, but fell 5º from start to the end of my ride. Still it stayed above 60ºF, no need for cold gear, the ls jersey and a wind jacket did the top, tights over the shorts made it comfortable.

Sorry to hear about your crash. I'm your age and I know all about those sudden falls... If you want a fast race trike, the Vortex (VTX) is lighter in weight (22 lbs) than the Cat. My wife ended up with an ICE Sprint 26 and she absolutely loves it.
It'll be at least two months before I'll be able to ride so I might get lucky and find a good used Catrike, but they don't last online long. And thanks to all the well-wishers, it's gratefully received. Gravity, it's painful! |
My first century in some 10 years. Best supported ride I can imagine. 106 miles, the Tucson Police and Pima County Sheriffs spectacular work allowed me to ride the entire without stopping for a single light, stop sign, left turn--nothing! I felt like they treated us like kings, and kept parting the Red Sea for us, over and over and over......I swear there were 1500 of them out there today, and I actually think that might be close to the real number. The crowds along the road were phenomenal.
Bravo for the El Tour de Tucson! |

65 miles, 7000 ft of climbing. Ooofta, my legs were feeling it today. Rode up to the Blue Ridge Parkway using a back route that was new to me, back down to Vesuvius. Got to pass a huge truck carrying a back-hoe that was going about 5 MPH down the hill. I think maybe he got lost. That's a crazy road to be on with that kind of a vehicle.
The remainder of the ride I basically crossed back and forth along the Rt 11 corridor using the beautiful backroads, some of which have extremely steep sections. Back through Lexington to the start. Tremendous number of chasey dogs on the roads today, from little yappers to some serious big guys that did not take "no" for an answer. 35 very windy miles this morning with my regular weekend group.

Still in the 50's today but rainy - thought I could get in a ride between rain clouds but weather.com mislead me - only rode 4 miles before it became Too Wet to Continue.

28 miles on Palm Beach. Going south wasnt much fun but going north was a blast.

After the rain passed through this afternoon I rode 20 miles in the wet, strong gusty west winds behind the rain. Cut things short in order to get in a safe ride before it was too dark for my meager lighting. Roads were slick, too.

We did 31.8 miles today on this sweet machine:

55 chilly AZ miles on Saturday.

Forgot to mention I rode to the car show yesterday, the real entertainment came when I managed to shoehorn my Raleigh into the back of my 'Stang. . .

45 miles on Sunday morning, trying to beat the rain that was scheduled for the afternoon. It was warmer than yesterday, but I still felt chilled for most of the ride. Too windy too.
|
Left the house this morning at 7:00 for my ride; it was 70*. Gotta love this Florida weather. 35 very windy miles.
|
30 miles this afternoon, unusually warm today, it was 68°F when I started. The winds are to pick up through the night, and into tomorrow. Some rain is possible Tuesday, but the remainder of the Thanksgiving week is to be clear and cool. Great riding weather.

No ride today - rained out. :(
|
25.5 miles, the heavy rains and winds never materialized. Rest of the week is forecast to be beautiful weather.

Did my commute again. Warm weather but dry. Except that the roads were wet from yesterday so I had a nice skunk stripe by the time I got to the office.
With about a mile left to go my front brake cable began to feel odd. A quick glance at the lever showed that the cable was fraying just above the anchor. I finished the ride and later this evening rode home very carefully, using only the rear brake. |
38km commute round trip. to my shame I only manage it twice a week, but it makes me feel good to do it. Roll on Saturday for my MTB ride.
