The days are getting shorter. Long shadows by 5:30 pm

Rode yesterday for the first time since August 2023, according to Strava.
6.5 miles in 36 minutes. Just neighborhood cruising. Bike still works and so do my legs, apparently. Felt good! Going again today after work. |

Did 21 miles on the local path here, longest ride since my surgery. Had to share the path with this guy, although he did wave me through

hate it when a turtle passes without using proper passing etiquette
|
I was able to get out and ride this morning. I got 21.4 miles. I was hoping to get 25 but due to having other commitments today, I had my short. I am not sure, but I think as the weather gets colder people will not be out as much on the rail trail. It was 50° when I left the house this morning.

Got out today for the first time in more than six weeks. Rode about eight miles and avoided a short steep climb I usually do. I’ve done something to my left knee and I’ve been dealing with it for at least two months. During the ride it was sore/tender and weak. Post ride I feel okay but I’ll see what the evening/morning brings. I’m grateful I can still get out for my walks.
Cheers, Scott |
I got out for a 20 mile ride this morning. Leaving the house at 7 am and staying on the mup the most of the ride. There wasn't a lot of people using the mup at that hour, which made riding nicer. Though the temp was a cool 48 degrees this morning.

Another great start for the day. I got out of the house at 7:45 for a 23 mile ride. The temperature was a cool 45 degrees when I left the house. Getting out early today was important as the wind is supposed to pick up as the day progresses, with gusts at 20mph. And to make things even better the mup wasn't busy at all today.

I did 21 on my local path this morning. No turtles today but a pretty good headwind on the way back. Brisk fall morning here in Southern New England and the colors are starting to come on. I’ll try and take a few pix next week. Enjoy the weekend all!

Cheers, Scott could the knee pain be related to the quad / quad tendon ? ( yes - I did stay at a Holiday Inn one time ) |
I think you’re onto something. At the very top of my knee, where I’m assuming muscle would attach it is tender, a bit sore. I only notice this when I cross my leg over it. About a month ago at the peak of the discomfort/pain I had a throbbing pain (kinda like a toothache).to the outside of the knee that radiated up and down my leg. It was hard to find a position that was comfortable. Interrupted sleep at times.
I used a compression knee brace for five or six weeks and that helped with walking and standing at work. I’m much better and I don’t use the brace anymore. My walking is nearly if not completely back to normal. While the ride yesterday went fine I definitely felt discomfort/slight pain and weakness in my knee. So it seems I’m not completely healed and the spinning while riding irritates it. I’m wondering if I should stay off the bike for another month or so. It’s been very frustrating. Cheers, Scott |
Taking advantage of what may be the last 70°+ day of the season, I did nine miles this AM doing some shopping in town riding my 'commuter' '72 Motobecane Grand Record. Going out again in a few minutes for maybe another 10-12 on the Tarmac, this time out into the country roads east of town.
Second ride took me an hour, covered just over 11 miles for 20+ total today, 1,100' elevation. So a "nice day out' for what might be the last day with temps above 60° for awhile around these parts. Be setting up my Yahoo Kicker SNAP in my basement over w/e with the Tarmac. Looking forward to staying in decent shape over the coming winter! |
I was out this morning at 7:15 am as winds were predicted to gust up to 30mph and I wanted to be out and at least on my way back before that happened. So I was able to get 20 miles in today. At about 8:15 I could see the wind kicking up so I turned around and headed back. The mup was mostly empty this morning so that made for good riding.

I turned 62 this week so I extended my Saturday breakfast club ride out to 62 miles. Yay me.
