The wife and I did a hot muggy 13 miles mid morning. We'll take tomorrow off.
|
Yes. 28 miles. Tried out my new handlebar roll bag.

Yes, 20 miles this morning while it was still coolish and the wind hadn't picked up too much. Wanted to try a new route out of town, heading out to the SW where I knew I could put my new crankset (50/34 w/ 170mm cranks) to the test on the hills I'd be riding.
This was on the way out, before I started the more rapid changes in elevation: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...caa024ab90.jpg Then this was where I chose to turn back, in that I had to punch in @ work at noon and I wanted to get some lunch before that: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f72d4d10cc.jpg Here's the view looking back the way I'd just come, before I crossed over to begin my return: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d58b312a09.jpg I think my choice of turn-round point rather apt, considering this: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2dc88fa4eb.jpg - is what lay ahead, that I'd have to climb if I wanted to be back in time! Maybe some other day but NOT today! This from a stretch on the way back, before I got back close to town: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cd01a4eb38.jpg Don't let anyone try to tell you there's a lack of elevation changes here in The Driftless Region of Wisconsin! I managed 20 miles with 1,693' elevation gain along this route out then back before I stopped for lunch before heading home to change for work. |
Always thankful to post this thread
Rode with an old friend today for the first time in years. Joy.
We passed the velodrome in Marymoor Park (Redmond, WA) and since it was empty = worth a couple of laps. Perfect cycling weather. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...27fe35b28.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...98963c5de.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0c27cd7d2.jpeg |
Rode out to the orchard for some apples this morning. I wasn't sure I could make the round trip, so I stretched the out-bound leg and she picked me up. Good thing, because I'm pretty sure it would have been tough to make the 50 mile RT carrying a peck of apples and a peck of sweet potatoes, especially since I usually take just one small pannier (good for a peck, not enough for a half bushel!). Weather was just about perfect, clear, little wind, and moderate temperature topping off in the low 80s.
25 miles out of town was about as far out as I've ridden this year, so that was nice getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and neighborhoods. Only one loose dog, and it stayed in its yard. About half the soybeans had been harvested, and half the corn. I don't know where they were harvesting the soybeans, since I didn't see the dust cloud that usually goes along with that activity. I don't really know why a farmer would harvest half his field, and leave the middle still standing. Cotton was mostly blooming, except for a couple fields where the plants were short from a lack of water, but the bolls were formed. After 6 weeks of approximately zero rain, I wonder how the rest of the cotton plants are still growing. There was one anomaly: a field of sunflowers, dried up and bent over. This was the first time I've seen someone trying to grow sunflowers, apparently for harvest, in this area. |
32 mile ride out on country roads.

Had in mind a Z2 ride early this AM while it was coolish with temps mid-80's predicted for this afternoon. Managed to keep Z3 down to a 'reasonable' percentage instead, limited myself to 16 miles over oft ridden roads east then north, then west & the MUP back into town for coffee & a nuclear brownie. Still, even with the short shrift the route gave me 1,032' to climb.
Current weather here's supposed to stay pretty comfy, at least for the days the NWS is willing to speculate about. Be a Good Thing if I can get another 200+ outdoor miles in before trainer season returns. |
Man, .... Saturday's was a bad ride. Heavy legs. Very heavy legs. 7 miles?
Couldn't seem to focus on breathing, ... if that was even an issue at such a slow pace. Will take a couple off and see if the becomes "the pause the refreshes." no pics. |

Heavy legs in the hills and The Climb means no joy. Still better than a day working. :p

YAY! I did get a ride in today (9/15). Not a super long ride-16.34 miles, and definitely not fast, but very enjoyable. A woman who goes to an exercise class that my wife and I attend wanted to go on a bike ride and knows we ride bikes. Wife was not able to go, turns out the woman doesn't get to ride often and has a Walmart quality bike. After making some needed adjustments and showing her some things she could do herself, we started the ride. The ride was on a very scenic section of the local MUP. Don't know the last time I've seem someone enjoy the scenery and ride as much. Made me enjoy it that much more knowing how much someone else also enjoyed it. Maybe not an epic ride, but epically enjoyable! And glad it went well as I've been going to phys therapy for sciatica. Thinking the position on the road bike actually helps, feel better after than prior to the ride.

My longest ride on the Creo to date, made it down to Costanoa campground to check it out. Beautiful coastline down that way of course.

Got 13 miles into my ride and got a flat. Walked 4 miles home getting buzzed by mosquitos and got some diaper rash. Super.

Another great ride on the 1971 Raleigh Sports. It's hard to believe I've now ridden this classic, which I rescued from the trash in June 2023, over 6,000 miles.

Another nice ride, east and north of town. Felt cool for the first 20-odd miles, then it started getting warmer.
Lots of cotton out this way -- I remember seeing one cornfield, and no soybeans. Unlike the northwest corner of the county, this cotton looked like it was doing well: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5ad426e7ef.jpg Cotton just over the berm from subdivision When it gets "ripe" you'll see cotton bolls all the way to the top of the plant. Then they'll hit it with a defoliant (one field had it already), knock the leaves off, and harvest the cotton. And the cottonseed. If it was "food" they wouldn't allow the defoliant, but since the oil they press from seeds is a byproduct, it's OK. I'll buy corn or canola, but not cottonseed oil. |

Beautiful Summer week in The Bay. It was in the 70's by the end of my ride this morning. |
I rode about 50 minutes today and 40 yesterday on my Trek Verve 3. Trying to get my endurance back after a heart attack. I was walking for awhile but you just can't get your heart rate up by walking. I am in my late sixties. I am still trying to find the right saddle. For short rides the stock seat was ok but now that I am riding longer I need something more comfortable. Currently I have a Brooks B17 on the bike and a Kinekt suspension post, neither are on the bike in the photo below.

Managed a whole 3 hours of sleep last night and decided to bike instead of trying to go back to sleep. Got out at 1:37AM and got in 33.33 miles. Maybe tonight I'll be luckier and get 2 hours of sleep and ride 44.44 miles.

I got another 40 minutes in today. Made a few seat adjustments and had to try it out.

Ride with friend Richard
28 miles / 1418ft total today, with some light rain in the last 5 miles or so. At the hitching post... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...897ad9a49.jpeg |

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...31262c138e.jpg 41 miles in today on the Mt Vernon Trail on the Potomac. Arlington to Mt. Vernon and back. Busy trail in Arlington. |
Cool temps. greeted me at 1:42am today and rode 27.72 miles without encountering squirrels but did startle a huge Great Horned Owl as it was chilling out on the sidewalk as I approached.

Since the roads and trails around here are mostly rather rough, I've been looking for more of a mountain bike to see how that compares with the road bike that I've been riding.
Was able to find a very nice condition Schwinn Cimarron at a decent price a couple days ago and was finally able to take it out for another one of my 6-7 mile neighborhood rides today. We've had on and off rain recently so some puddles here and there. Also quite humid and not much of a breeze so worked up a good lather, so to speak. I do notice more of a rolling resistance with the wider knobby tires with lower pressure on the Schwinn, compared to the more narrow and smoother tires with higher pressure on the Fuji. As far as soaking up the bumps though, oh yeah, much better on the Schwinn. :thumb: |
