Thankful to post this thread
Couple days off did muscles good following a batch of daily miles.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...469b09ac1.jpeg Trails - muchly smooth pavement and gravel that’s not really gravel except in a few places. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e81ce3d87.jpeg Blackberries nearly out of season, but still some spots. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9df4099db.jpeg |

Have ridden the last 2 days. First time I have done back to back in a while. 24 miles on Tuesday and 21 yesterday with the club. Feeling pretty good about where I am at.

I haven't been on the bike in a month, thanks to a severe arthritis flare up in my knee. I figure it's about due, since I had major surgery to repair it back in 1976 and it's been deteriorating since then.
A cortisone shot, some rest, heat, stretching, and I finally got the okay from the doctor to do some easy riding. I thought the best thing to do would be to ride indoors on the smart trainer. I just changed over from Zwift to Rouvy, and I'm still learning how to navigate my way around the app. I was looking for a nice flat route and found one in Plum Island, MA. Cool, since I'm originally from that state. I felt a twinge after a little over 5 miles and called it. I'll find out how my knee liked it tomorrow morning, I'm sure. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1a3aa6a193.png |
Today is the first day since arriving in Michigan that I have been able to ride due to my left leg is all bruised from mid calf to my heel. I fell on the second day of the trip on my flip flop, my leg is still bruised and sore but I rode today. It was a great ride with both my granddaughters riding with me. We rode 4.5 miles at the Metropark to the playground and back.

Yes.
Butt, ..... Riding 20 yo titanium - obsolete with hydraulic nothing, electronic nothing, a triple (), and 25mm tires (:wtf:), not even a power meter (:o) or basic cycling computer, or holder for a phone (;)). https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4ca5a6079e.jpg All it would need is downtube shifters to be a true "Death Machine". Roll On. |

Rode 20 miles today at the Duck Creek Trail in the Quad Cities. A nice urban trail. |
Did the Bike Van Buren ride last weekend. It was 50 miles the first day and 35 the second. It was fun and hot. The SE corner of Iowa is pretty and the ride was well organized.I rode my 1985 Cannondale ST 400 . Even though it's a 42 inch wheelbase bike with 18 inch stays, it rides more like a racing bike than a touring bike because of the overbuilt aluminum.

Finally got the new (to me) Fuji Sagres on the road this morning.
Google maps says the 4.6 miles I did takes 28 minutes. Uh, no, at least not for someone who hasn't been on a bike since... Reagan was president  More like 48 minutes, but no worries, I'm in no rush. |
My last ride in 2024 was 30 miles on July 12. I injured my knee on that ride. I didn't do much on the trainer last winter. I've been ramping miles up very slowly this year, and finally rode 30 miles yesterday in high 70s, sunny, SW wind at 10 mph weather. No bad after-effects. I'm very happy with the ride.
I just hope my body and the weather hold up.... |
Always thankful to post this thread
Testing myself a bit in the heat. About 30 mi. Officially 90* when I got home, but 95* in the shade on my back deck.
People out doin stuff, like me, on a sunny Saturday. Flat trail with partial shade spots is Heaven on a hot day. Can't resist a rolling shot when given an empty trail section. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a39217709.jpeg Crowded at Samammish Lake’s boat launch https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...48af93c7d.jpeg Coming in for a landing https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cccd58484.jpeg Down safely https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...65eb5e131.jpeg I like this family’s ‘fence’. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...988c39126.jpeg |
Another 4ish miles on the Fuji. Somewhat different route from yesterday but quite a strong northwest wind this morning so my legs were really feeling it when I got home. Made better time, though.
|
Another ride with my granddaughter's today. We added 1.8 miles onto the ride today for a total of 6.3 miles. We were able to include a stop at the ice cream parlor on our bikes.

Changing chainrings & pedals had me out today for a 'test run' despite the rather unseasonal (but most welcome!) coolish temps that rolled into town late this week. Supposed to touch 45°F tonight for the low and winds out of the NW gusting to 20+? Sheesh!
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...91d7f0d6b8.jpg View to the west when I decided I'd had enough trying to buck the wind. So it WAS windy on the MUP when I rode out at 3:30, gusts to 22, right in my face. Managed 11 miles, the back half of which had wind doing much of the pushing, I just had to pay attention to not getting blown over at speed. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a22a122d85.jpg The way back home. |
Another indoor trainer ride on Rouvy to help with my knee rehab. So far, so good with the knee, very little pain.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0e7697cc2d.png A little more than half the route completed. I like that you can resume a ride where you left off in Rouvy. |
The granddaughters and I got out and rode for 7 miles today. I am slowly trying to increase their mileage. Another stop at the ice cream parlor and also the playground. Fun rides!
|
I too spent time on the trainer today. My right leg is almost twice the size of my left (Baker's Cyst from meniscus). If they were the same I'd look like a cartoon character. I moved it out on the patio to take advantage of the breeze. Did 30 easy miles and still created a puddle. Of course, at 78 we have to question the source of the puddle (it was sweat-whew). I put new cables and housings on last weekend and fine tuned the shifting today. That 105 group is smoother than me:)
Thanks Essiemyra, now I need ice cream :thumb: |
Just back from third time out on the Fuji. Much less wind than Sunday so that made for a more enjoyable experience. Another different route that also ended up being right around seven miles.
About halfway in, I encountered a group of at least twenty cyclists going in the other direction. They were all decked out in their lycra and helmets (and me just in street clothes, nothing special). I just waved as they went past but had to wonder what a group ride would be like. Happy enough to slowly build up my endurance in a solo manner for now, but neat to see others out on such a lovely day. |
Thunder and lightning with sprinkles mixed in. I’ll wait

Out at 1:41AM and added a few more turns to Sunday's ride. Managed to get 30.03 miles in on the 1999 DAHON Mariner 20" wheels amped up from a 7 speed 14/28 to 10 speed 12/28 with 60 tooth chainring.

Similar route to yesterday but more of a double loop (loop de loop?) than a circuit... Google says 6.7 miles that way. This was an afternoon ride so a good bit warmer than the morning rides but enough of a breeze and shade along the way to be comfortable enough.
Actually this morning I was shopping for a new saddle, since the one that was on the bike was actually starting to disintegrate it was so old. Bought a $50 saddle (Serfas gel) at a nearby LBS but also needed some other items at the big box store. Just on a whim checked out their bike section and they had one Selle Lata left on the shelf for $25 so got that just for "the halibut". Installed the Selle first when I got home and that's what I did the ride today on. Surprisingly it feels quite alright (and looks much better on this vintage Fuji, imho) so I'll return the Serfas saddle tomorrow. I do need some other items at the LBS that I forgot this morning, need to make a list so I don't forget. |
Short rides
5.1 miles today 4.7 miles yesterday. Having to get back into it after spending five weeks being trail angel for a Pacific crest Trail hiker.
