Thankful to post this thread.
Yes to riding. Yes to hot, near 90* at the end of riding, low humidity ~30%. Thank goodness for partially shaded routes.

Now there's a speed limit I can live with for the autos. Parking lot ahead. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...32443f05b.jpeg Roll On. Did a mixed gravel/road ride of 20 miles. We had 5" of rain overnight last night. It was around 80 but very humid. More rain coming tonight probably. |

Here's hoping we get a break from the heavy rains these next few days, eh? Time for things to dry out a bit going into the last days of Summer '25. |

Maiden run on my new Hunt Carbon wheels on the Hakka, which is turning into a road bike. Felt very fast. I used the Conti GP 5000 S before, for a metric century on my original Stans Alloy wheels. those wheels will get some gravel/trail tires. maybe.
My next move in the transformation is to replace the 40t chainring with a 44t. Trying that before going 2x GRX. I spin out on long downhills with 40t. 15miles, in 57mins. a toasty 80ฐF +. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5d46871917.jpg |

Before trying to ramp-up miles, double then quadruple in a month - the advice is consult your Dr. - My inner Doc said Check all systems are Go every day and you can keep going up slowly. Contact points after 4 consecutive daily rides are good.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...db297be97.jpeg Still dry. Showers coming for a couple of days soon. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e5763f967.jpeg Took the trouble to knock down a few fresh plums from the tall tall tree - only to find they are still green. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...810d06e4b.jpeg At the animal rescue and petting farm (down th hill from home) many kids groups visit. YMCA mini-buses regularly, etc Glad to see this one today. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5bb297ed3.jpeg Spending time on this leather saddle to fully break it in. Attached to a nice 20yo lugged steel frame, customed for me. :thumb: |
Yeah, I did. To work first, 3/4 mile. Then out for lunch and back, another 3.7 miles, then home once I punched out. A little more casual endeavor, so 4.8 miles for that. Total for the day? A rousing 9.2 miles.
I'm looking to better that (by a significant degree!) tomorrow, my one full weekday off work... weather permitting of course! |

No - took an alternative activity
Rode 5 consecutive days, so changed it up with a 2+ hr hike.
Pedestrian - Im quite pedestrian, so I proceeded. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...865cdccff.jpeg Lots of choices for trails - kinda flat or very hilly https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a856db249.jpeg Trees - a nice mixed forest - deciduous and evergreen https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...23dc83718.jpeg And switchbacks https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...09fcb9d8d.jpeg Need some rain. |

No riding here, as my bikes are all in other countries. I did walk to a castle though. Wouldn't you know the put it on high ground, so it was a workout. Cobbles exercising my ankles and balance.

Having to wait for a couple more tests before my cardiologist will let me exert much but I did 30 minutes on a stationary bike at the gym. Stayed in zone 1 and watched Chive TV.

might be ok with 44t ring ? do you run cassette with 11 or 10t ?
if not should be good with a GRX 2x 48 big ring with a 11t small cog is about the equal of the old 53/12 combo which was fairly common (including pro ranks) BITD 48/10 will definitely be ok If I didn't already have the GX 810 derailleur, and 2x cranks, brake lever, I would consider the newer GRX 12 speed with tighter jumps at the high end. Cassette: 11-12-13-14-15-17-19, 21, 24, 28 32, 36T I don't want to drop any more $$$ on this. Additionally, it is bit of work to change to 2x, overall (with my basic bike mechanical skills) From my current notes: GRX 1x 44T (11 speed) - CHANGE to 44T CHAINRING ONLY 11-42t with 44t CR (Shimano XT 11-42 cass / Shimano GX 812 der) Range = 382% Ratio: (Lo) 1.05 to 4.0 (Hi) -> 29.1mph [32mm tire] Ratio: (Lo) 1.05 to 4.0 (Hi) -> 29.8mph [40mm tire] REFERENCE for 40T orig Chainring: Ratio: (Lo) 0.95 to 3.64 (Hi) -> 26.5mph [32mm tire] Cassette: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-42T (bt) GRX 2x (11 speed) - my 2025 planned change 11-34t with 48/31t (Shimano CS-HG800 cass / Shimano GX 810 der) Range = 449% Ratio: (Lo) 0.912 to 4.36 (Hi) -> 31.8mph [32mm tire] Cassette: 11-13-15-17-19-21-23-25-27-30-34T |
The wife and I got out for a 14 mile ride this morning.
Health issues and the summer heat have really slowed us down lately. |
Yes. 26 miles.
|
I did
|
I did! I only managed 3.5 miles though. My friend and I stopped for a drink and my shoelace got caught on the pedal somehow. Well, in trying to get it off the chain managed to come off the chainring. I had to walk a mile back home and my wonderful husband fixed it, and now I know to do that in the future. Which I hope never happens again. Strange, very strange.

Always grateful to post this thread
Actively trying to increase saddle time and mileage. Weather is cooperating, body mechanics trying to keep up.
