Just an hour - 0 miles.
But good music. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...99bde0cbd.jpeg Ride accompanied by a pic = So, it counts! |
Ridiculously nice weather today for late February.

I was able yesterday to get out and ride for 26 miles. Hopefully today I will be able to get some riding in. Though right now there is fog. The fog usually clears a bit later in the morning. But since it gets warm fast after the clearing of the fog I typically don't start later. I should talk myself into going out soon.

From home to the Mississippi River for a ways, then back. 15 miles total. So glad it is warming up.

Got out yesterday - 42*, hazy sunshine, bit windy. Winter garb and riding the big easy beastie. Only ~12 miles, but stayed low traffic. Too many trucks on my backroads during the week.
wish it would warm, but not the forecast. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e44eee4bc.jpeg |
Finally a small break in our crazy weather. Ground is so saturated, there are run-offs all over the place= dirty bike. Such spotty riding so far this year.

Yes indeed, mine is a Trofeo. You bike is a beaut!
My other Bianchi: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...87052d5a9.jpeg Created water bottle and under saddle bag covers from a pair of aero socks just for grins. .000025 Watt gain. Infinito CV |
rsbob - both of yours shine as well.
Had to go totally modern myself, but only recently. Spanish Orbea Gain which I have pictured a bunch (too much). But my heart lies in the beauty of the classic handmade steelies. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...29f9a8b77f.jpg Someone else's Zullo is a picture of perfection, in my eye. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dd27961f76.jpg |
Love your bikes, especially the De Ros. Orbea huh? We seem to have similar taste.

Sunday was chilly but hazy sunshine when I started; soon faded to full overcast and dang cold. Glad I packed the windbreaker, and leg warmers to go over knickers w/ long socks. ~35mi = longest of the year. It was a mostly flat ride ;).
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7c3cd1b89.jpeg Looks and feels like a PNW winter day. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...eeb219b66.jpeg Love me some narrow bars. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0756495cb.jpeg A river side ride for flat trail flying. Feels good really to get some old man HIIT training. And some LSD. Best of 2 worlds. |
I biked Mauna Kea last Monday (Feb 27) . I rode the 'easy' route, starting at Waikōloa Beach (Kona side), I made it to the Mauna Kea Visitor Center (elev 9,200 ft / 2,800 m) and despite feeling OK, I knew that I wouldn't make it to the summit (it took me 6 hours to cover the easy part of the climb). In the last mile to the visitor's center, the road holds 17% and kicks to 18%. The summit road was closed when I arrived, but opened after about 30 minutes, then we drove our Jeep to the summit.
I'm working on a revisit, possible starting at the beach again; or likely starting at Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Saddle Rd). This climb is as epic as everything you've read, and to add to the challenge, you're riding mostly highways with high traffic speeds and LOTS of it! I'm working on a blog post and YouTube edit, I'll share that in a week or two. Starting off a little after 6:00 AM at Waikōloa Beach ... this was one of the most difficult parts of the day, finding the public access to the beach. This resort area is full of private roads and gates, not the Aloha Spirit at all. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...729da84e60.jpg Last mile or so from the visitors center, getting my butt kicked by the long stretches at 17% (and kicking higher): https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c510263e90.jpg After a short stretch walking, I got to the visitor's center, greeted by my daughters and son-in-law (great cheering support!) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...192127dade.jpg The 4 of us (including Frau Toad) at the summit, the thin air at 13,800 ft / 4,200m was serious. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5c9a571334.jpg |
Nothing spectacular, but warmth in PNW caught me wanting to ride a bunch. So I did a 20 miler, then pulled out a few more to pump tires and take three neighborhood mini-rides.

What you did was a special accomplishment! :) Truly. And for 50+, deserves a major 2 thumbs up! :thumb::thumb: What is the red rider?, can't make out a name. have read of many ascents. All, other than a pro or 2, where the rider was too exhausted to descend safely. |

All, other than a pro or 2, where the rider was too exhausted to descend safely. Both the white DAMn kit and the pink(red) Birchwood vest are this Toad. Frau Toad was supporting me, in her Jeep, she had the warm wool and wind vest for the colder temps at high elevations (and food/hydrations refills cause there's no stops along this route). At the Visitor's Center, a ranger said that in peak season (June thru September) they get roughly 5 folks on bike per week and half are able to reach the summit. That ranger is a biker and said they'd biked the Saddle Rd many times, but never considered turning up the Summit Access Rd. I never planned to ride back down, it's such a major effort and you'll run out of daylight to fully descend. Cory rode the same day, he made the summit and rode back down to the visitor's center ... his support crew didn't have a vehicle to drive to the summit. Here's a link to my ride report: https://bikesbeersstuff.blogspot.com...rld-mauna.html |

name,...brand,...designer,...liscensee,... I like Bianchi, have owned a couple (only vintage). I love my Bianchi, it's a dream bike (and I wish I had a classic steel frame Bianchi). Here's my 2021 Bianchi Infinito at the Alpine Visitor's Center in Rocky Mountain National Park after biking up Old Fall River Rd. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f1e2eac4e1.jpg And not to play favorites, here's a family photo with all my bikes (no including the two tandems). https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0c449b40ae.jpg |
I am back to reality biking in NH instead of the warm weather biking I was doing down in FL in Feb and early March. Anyway, I did get out for a nice ride this morning. My first since coming home.

Rode my age
I have seen post where people ride their age on their birthday, today for the first time I rode my age on my birthday that would be 67 miles.
And now I feel my age. : ) |
Congratulations, quite an accomplishment.

This post is for yesterday. I was able to squeeze a ride into my day. I didn't have it in my plans but when one of my plans fell through, my first thought was get out on the bike. Because it was a late Friday afternoon ride I stayed on the bike path. The path had some snowy patches so there was some walking of the bike.

Rode 90 miles around Tucson yesterday, mostly solo. It was cold in the morning, 41F, when I met a couple of buddies at the Saguaro NP Scenic Drive, for two laps around the eight-mile loop. Then I rode about ten miles south on Old Spanish Trail to Colossal Cave park, then about ten more miles west on Pistol Hill Rd to intersect the Tucson Loop and back home around the city. I nearly made a ten-mile detour to San Xavier del Bac Mission, a favorite stop on the eponymous reservation, but a pretty stiff head wind picked up and I was already a bit fatigued from the fast climbs on the Saguaro loops. So the first century of the year will have to wait.
On Monday I met my 75 yo friend on his mini-tour from Nogales to Phoenix. I took him on a bakery tour in the barrios south of town, and guided him on the bike paths to the north end of town. The next day he had favorable winds and completed the 104 miles home almost effortlessly. All this with half a pancreas from surgery two years ago. I wanna be him when I grow up. (I'm only 65.) |
