I was able to ride my bike today. When I left the house with the bike in the back of my truck the roads were wet but there was no water in the air. By the time I got to where I leave my car there was a light mist. I rode my bike anyway, cause this looks to be about the only day we don't have rain this week. I got a nice ride in and on my way home the skies had cleared the winds picked up and it was a whole new ride.
I forgot to add this part of my ride today. Which bothered me a bit as I do not like big dogs especially if unknown to me. I was coming down a hill at a good clip and I saw this dog in my rearview mirror bolted out of his back yard to give me chase. I could hear his owner screaming for the dog to come back but the dog didn't listen to him. He kept chasing me but since I was hitting such a good speed down hill he never caught me. I do not like dogs especially in an instance like this. I have ridden this road about 4 times in the last few weeks and not heard or seen this dog. Well I know I will only ride that road downhill and not going up as going uphill I could not outrun the dog.

I was able to ride again this morning to work. Though when I left the parking lot it was misting. When I left work at 12pm it was still chilly and cloudy. But I was out riding so there was a smile on my face.

I rode this morning for a pleasure ride. I am in the process of increasing my mileage. So today I went 3 miles more than the last ride. I am finding it hard to increase my mileage due not being able to figure out where I can extend the ride and feel comfortable riding. Though I am out riding so that is a great thing.

I got together this morning with two other seniors, all volunteers at the non-profit bike shop, for a Lariat Loop ride. Starting from Golden, it's a 2000' climb up Lookout Mt, then another shorter climb along I-70 to Evergreen, then a cruise down Bear Creek Canyon into Morrison. Then my favorite, a short climb through Red Rocks park, over Dinosaur Ridge, and back to Golden. Total for the day is 41 miles and 3,100' of climbing. It was the first ride of the season into the foothills for all of us. We're looking forward to a good year.

I hiked that trail (2008) but don't remember crossing the Maybrook rail trail. My main memory of New York was the excellent food.

AT, nice!
The Maybrook only opened in 2021. It's the Dutchess County link in the southern part of the Empire State trailway patchwork. I ride different parts from the north Bronx to east New Paltz, even crossing the Hudson on a converted railway bridge. Total 90 miles of trailway except 3 short street rides. It's pretty, brainless and good for training, and in that way reminds me of Zwift. I ride there a lot. 😉

I rode today. My ride was to work and back. The weather was beautiful. The ride home was direct though as I had to get my truck in for an oil change today.

Did I mis-remember? I thought you retired a few months back.

You are correct, I did retire from a full-time job this past September, and got myself 2-part-time jobs, one at an assisted living as a receptionist on the weekends(that is a feel-good job) and I have a small accounting job for 6 hours a week.

essiemyra 05-10-23 05:09 PM

I got on my bike this morning and am now up to a 20 mile ride. I know some of you ride more miles and I am slowly working my way back up to a daily 25 to 30 mile ride. I found a place to add in an extra few miles. I will keep looking for another place to add in a few more.

I rode yesterday and my brother came to where I worked to fix the printer. Which he wasn't able to fix so a new printer was purchased. Though my brother asked me if I rode the whole way from my house. I told him I didn't. When I thought about it later I was thinking I could so do this ride it is only 16 miles one way. With a 3 hour break between rides and that is your 30 mile ride 2 times a week. What a great idea. So after my new rack for the back of my bike gets delivered on the 20th of May, it will get installed and then I can ride my new bike from the house to work.

Seattle area with near record highs, after a couple of months of near record lows.
I’ll take it. And so will many other cyclists, as so many were out today.

Looks like the grass is starting to turn. Usually brown by Memorial Day, in my memory. Maybe not this year.

I was able to get out and ride just for fun today. The weather was gorgeous. A slight chill in the air with warm sunshine. My new bike rack come in yesterday and it is now on the back of my bike.

Got sick on April 15, just after a 20 mile ride - bronchitis followed by post-viral asthma. Next ride was almost 6 miles on May 5 which I remember wishing was 2 miles shorter. Then 6+ miles on 5/16, but I got short of breath, which was very unpleasant. Today, another 6+ miles, without getting short of breath. Recovery just keeps getting more difficult with increasing age. I don't think I could have done 10 miles in any sort of comfort, so recovery has started, but hasn't progressed very far. I'm still on track to meet my goals for the year, though.

My legs are still good from trainer use during the winter. What hurts are my neck and shoulders. Next year I have to make sure I keep my head looking up and forward on the trainer - it's too easy to look down. That might be a good reason to watch TV during workouts. :)

I got out and rode today. It was a 35 mile ride total. The ride took only 1hour 36 minutes on my way out this morning. It was chilly when I left the house with a temp of 45 degrees. The ride home which was a little over a mile more home took 2 hours. The wind was busy today out of the southwest with gust up to 25 mph. I also fell off my bike when I arrived at my destination this morning. No one was around so...did it really happen? Anyway, I did get a small laceration on the front of my right ankle. I think I am going to put my bike bag on the other side of the bike, not the side I dismount on. As I think the weight of the bag was what caused the fall.

essiemyra 05-21-23 08:27 AM

I rode to work at the assisted living this morning. The ride was 5.8 miles here. It was a bit chilly and a jacket was needed for the ride. Depending on how the day goes it could be a much longer ride home. Fingers crossed!!

I had a struggle with hypothermia last week. I rode to a trailhead for a trail work event at Apex park. At the end of the work day, we got absolutely soaked by a thunderstorm, with hail. It was about an hour walk out, descending from 7000' to 6000'. Everyone else on the crew got into their cars to drive home, I got on my bike and coasted home, a few miles downhill in continuing rain. Within a mile my bike got the wobblies, at around 20 mph. The bike was fine, it was me shivering. I made it home slowly and safely and was thankful for a warm shower and dry clothes there.

Gran Fondo NY + the Manhattan ride back and forth. Perfect weather and a fun hard ride.

As a warm weather rider, 99.4 miles in May knocks me out. I imagine yesterday was warm in NYC - but when did you start preparing to ride that far?

I rode almost 11 miles yesterday in warm, sunny, low wind weather. No shortness of breath, but it took me longer to recover than I liked. I prepared for the ride by swapping in a stem that's 5 CM shorter than the 11 CM stem I've been using for 40 years. Sure enough, no appreciable neck or shoulder pain.
