Up in the hills this morning to test my new11-40 cassette. Works just fine pushing that XTR to the limit.

Cool! It's nice to have that extra climbing gear! what was the lowest on your last cassette?

Thanks! It came with an 11-34. Then I tried an 11-36 but it wasn't enough. I couldn't tell much difference from the 34. So I decided to push it to a 40. lol

Did another 6 mile lake loop. Sunshine again but only 55° today. I really wish I had wore a long sleeve jersey. The shadows were really cool.
The lake looked really nice with the sun low and a little breeze. It looked like stars on the water.

Made it!

My goal was 500+ miles before my birthday and before the end of the year. I did both today. I’m going to try for another 500+ next year too. I’ll be 71 in a few days, not slowing down either. Enjoy the ride.

Had another beautiful day today. 61°, sunny and very little wind.
We may not have many more days like this this year so I plan to be out again tomorrow and Saturday.
Next week I have to get the cold weather gear out.

MidSouthBiker 11-27-25 09:07 PM

We got our first really good cold front, but I decided to layer up and get out in this 48 degree day. Despite that 12 mph northerly wind, I got in 60 minutes in the mid-day sunshine. And I feel great.

letrebici 11-30-25 11:38 PM

My ride today started around 60° at 2pm, ending at 4:30, it was 44° (Garmin and my car)
My first time on Monte Bello Road and Black Mountain. A very cool view. Fog down below in two directions.
13 miles, 2000+ feet gain, on my XC MTB.

Yup…in the wind. I do not like the wind. But, I had to try. I’m doing my best to build endurance and increase my mph. Riding in the wind will do that…I was able to average 10.4 mph, better than I thought. Goal is 15+ mph by the end of next year…or sooner. Enjoy the ride.

letrebici 12-05-25 07:32 PM

A mild afternoon, no wind. I rode added a Crystal Springs Rd and Polhemus after Cañada Rd... 21.6 miles, 1, 237 elevation gain, 1h 31mins.

After a week of traveling we are in Clearwater Florida for the winter. I was able to get the bike out today and ride for 15 miles.

Not many days left for riding as winter in New England approaches. Yet, I was able to get 10 miles in before dark this afternoon to test out (yet another) left side cotter pin on my 1971 Raleigh Sports. For some reason, I get about 2500 miles before the cotter pin deforms. I'm using newly manufactured pins that are probably surfaced incorrectly or just too malleable. I find that around 2500 miles if I climb an especially steep hill, the stress may put a dimple in the pin, requiring replacement. I torque the pins very well with a gear puller when I insert them, and then again after a 100 miles or so. I need to find a better quality pin.

Four person ride, 35 miles @ 17.3 avg. Cheshire, England. Got to ride through a few floods due to the recent downpours.

essiemyra 12-07-25 05:19 PM

Another day another ride. I was out riding at 7:30 this morning. I got a 17.5 mile ride in.

letrebici 12-08-25 03:12 PM

I got a late start yesterday. The parking lot closes around sunset. I squeezed in 1 hour ride at Rancho Cañada del Oro. Second time riding there. it has been a while. I climbed 350ft in the first mile. Beautiful views and some rocky downhill fire roads.

I was able to get out this morning soon after sunrise. The temp was cool in the low 50's but I enjoyed the cool air. My ride was for 17.5 miles on a different route today than I had ridden the last two rides.

essiemyra 12-10-25 07:43 PM

I left for my ride this morning at 8:30 am. The reason for this was I decided to eat breakfast before my ride. As the other morning when I rode without eating breakfast first after about 14 miles, I was so hungry that I stopped in the convenience store to pick up a snack today I made 19.9 miles no stops at the convenience store.

The new 8:30 start time for my ride worked well again today. I had breakfast before heading out and wasn’t hungry on my ride. The ride today was the same as yesterday but I added a little jaunt through the park which gave me a 20.6 mile ride today.

I had to laugh when I got to the bottom. I had to scroll down to get to the bottom of the picture, so on the way down I was wondering, "Are kids supposed to climb on that? I've got a couple grandchildren who'd be ready to climb it as soon as they see it!"

And then the little "No Climbing" sign came into view.

My 3:03AM start time today was a bit late, had a couple of Oreo cookies with peanut butter + half of a banana and relaxingly rode the neighborhood streets for 17.71 miles. Encountered lots of rabbits, a racoon family and only 2 vehicles.

Your ride times always get me. I love the early morning leave times, unfortunately that isn't a time I can do anymore due to a few reasons, but the most important one at this time is I am sleeping later than that hour. I have been so tired at night I sleep from 10:00 pm until 7 am. Also your food choices are causing me jealousy(peanut butter with banana, and oreo cookies). Who ever thought of putting those foods together.

Hopefully they are young enough they can get away with the " I can't read, excuse".

We had an unusually nice day here in north Tx compared to what we've been having.
The wife and I got out for 14 miles. Felt good to get active again.
