we could / should start a thread for train related stuffs
btw - speaking of the Creeper trail … we were thinking about thinking about a stop at the Creeper trail on the way to / from Concord NC - but heard there are trail closures / significant trestle damage from Hurricane Helene :( Up to Whitetop? I'm guessing a minimum of 2-3 summers before that section can be reopened. If there were just a working rail line that could haul trestle materials and a crane up there ... Edited to add: https://www.vacreepertrail.org/ -- 18 trestles gone. |
Got out for another 6 mile loop around the lake. With the almost constant climbing it feels longer.
I have an endoscopy tomorrow and more tests Thursday so it will Friday before I get back out. When I do my legs feel enough back in condition to either do 12 miles-two loops around the lake or go ride the Trinity River trail for 15+ miles. The river is longer but with less climbing. |
Almost 12 miles today, running around and getting things to work on the bike with.
https://i.imgur.com/3i5d1U0.jpg Stopped here and grabbed a quick shot with the phone- this one turned out a bit better than lately. The Super Sprint is getting cleaner by incremental stages, and it's finally starting to show. :D -D.S. |
Doc Sharptail , sorry about the cold...but can I suggest a fleece neckwarmer? A scarf on a bike is setting off all my Health and Safety alarms. 😉

The silk fibers in it kept me pretty warm. -D.S. |

Actually borrowed one of wife's frilly things for yesterday. Wrapped my neck with it and wore it undercoat- no chance of flapping strangulation.

Need to figure out how to get Zwift to play on my laptop (pairing Wahoo trainer with MacBook Pro's my next task) so I can use my 30" monitor for display & motivation. Zwift has lots of information regarding pairing your trainer. It should be easy with a Wahoo. |
Yep. 12.08 miles in 45 minutes on the stationary bike today. Looking good for an outdoor ride over the weekend

I got in my usual 40 miles today, but had to wrap the bars and headset in a plastic table cloth using clothespins (I sweat a lot) and put the miles on inside the shed. Weather doesn't normally stop me, but lightening mixed with 50 mph gust does. Lots of lightening:troll:. Still a good day even if the scenery never changed :)

I got out today for a 20 mile ride. I was waiting for the temp to get to about 40 degrees which happened about 10am so that is when I left the house for my ride.

Getting Zwift to play on your laptop is just a matter of a download: Download Zwift on iOS, MAC, PC, or Android Devices | Zwift
Zwift has lots of information regarding pairing your trainer. It should be easy with a Wahoo. I have an iPad MINI I can run it on. Getting that connected while it's mounted on my handlebars, with an 18 year old Apple 30" Cinema Display about 8 or 9 feet in front of my trainer bike set-up has proven to be tricky. Using its USB-C port I have an adapter that takes USB-C into the DVI cable that monitor came with. There's a sync problem though when I plug the needed DVI extension cable in between; blacks get displayed as vertical rainbow stripes. With the iPad connected w/o the DVI extension everything's fine but that means the iPad can't be on my handlebars. Using that macOS native app I may be able to use my laptop's HDMI port with a suitable HDMI > DVI adapter in between. I'm not excited over trying to position my laptop on or in front of my handlebar though, the iPad MINI is heavy as it is hung out front on a GoPro type adapter. Worst case may be just get on with running ZWIFT on the iPAD & forget the big screen effect the 30" would provide. THAT I can do, with no other issues.... (We prolly oughta continue this off-topic discussion up on the Indoor & Stationary Bikes Forum at this point.) Weather for tomorrow says low 50's, little to maybe 5 mph south winds in the afternoon & sunny. I'm looking forward to getting more miles on my Tarmac. The last three weeks I've thought each day I ride may be the last this year. I keep getting proved wrong, but somehow I don't mind! |

Oil Creek State Park trail a number of recent bear sightings - but none today found this pic on FB - spotted just a few days before we rode there that’s a big bear (bear in the foreground) https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4923cc401.jpeg |
Rode 15.1 in 1:07.

yikes - hopefully the bike not scraped / scarred also (?)

It seems fine. Chain came off. I finished last five miles after I did it. Knee is sore now after I have been off the bike for a bit.

I got a late start on what I had planned for this afternoon. This time of year 3:30's about it 'cause the shadows are so long with the sun low it's hard to navigate the shadows & valleys when there's vehicular traffic sharing the pavements. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c9e935a1aa.jpg Stopped here to catch my breath after a couple longish climbs before a fast descent where I'd be turning right for even more climbing. Managed 16 miles in 75 minutes, 879' elevation along this route. Doubt I'll be riding outside again this year. Wind today was practically nil, gusts predicted ~ 20 - 30 mph the next couple days then rain & mebbe snow (!!) showers much of next week. Dang CB, hope your hands are OK & of course your 'bike. |
Just 6 miles today. Almost cracked 48 f which is a warm day for mid-November here.
Nice enough to sit outside with a coffee on Broadway, and watch the city flow by. https://i.imgur.com/CrnOend.jpg On the S. side of the Legislature grounds on the way home. Mostly rode to check final fit adjustments. Finally dealt with the Kool-stop brake pads squeal by toeing the brake pads. They're silent now. I used a couple of cut up pieces of bread clip to do it. Just have to trim the excess off. -D.S. |
Haven’t been on much but did 15 miles on Monday and 20 this morning on my 73rd birthday. The 20 felt great still had some left in the tank. Hope you all enjoy the weekend! So much to be grateful for. Stay safe.

Yes 35 miles and a nice breakfast.

Unseasonably mild so I rode to the park for afternoon tea.

About 12 miles today.
https://i.imgur.com/1YgL8my.jpg Grocery run on the heavy Schwinn branded MTB. Outbound into a 15-20 mph headwind, and the bike is very wind sensitive. I'll have to get conditioned back into riding this thing. Lot's of expended energy if there's any breeze to speak of. It'll have to do for now as a winter bike... I may try to improve it later by going back to a 2.10" tire on the rear- just have to see what's available around here. -D.S. |

Crashes suck. I was hoping to go yesterday and then today was hoping to do some treadmill inside and the knee is not feeling great. Crashing at 58 is a bit more of a setback it seems.
