Winter has started *sigh*. No more outdoor riding after work until March because of the dark. 12 miles in 45 min, a standard indoor workout |

Need to figure out how to get Zwift to play on my laptop (pairing Wahoo trainer with MacBook Pro's my next task) so I can use my 30" monitor for display & motivation. Otherwise it's just my iPhone in its holder on my handlebar, not as 'immersive' an experience. |

With proper lights, night riding is much more exciting than day riding and there are fewer idgets to deal with at night. :)
I'm working out how to get Zwift to display on a 30" Apple monitor while riding on my Kickr SNAP trainer. As none of the Zwift apps, run on a Mac laptop, seem able to pair with the trainer, maybe I can use Apple's new iPhone mirroring feature to display Zwift on that monitor? Been raining for three days now, not gonna ride in the rain so it's trainer or cut bait. Update: seems USB-C iPads can run an external monitor so that's my next step: install Zwift on my iPad, pair that with the Kickr, see if it all plays nice with my venerable Cinema Display. Stay tuned! |

years (decades) ago rode off road during the fall through winter months - still one of the neatest things I’ve done … 10 miles per hour felt like 30 ! … many in the group I rode with in the 90’s are still currently night riding also enjoyed night snowmobiling - we often rode through the night into early morning we will finish some bike rides with our lights when it begins to get dark - but currently have not ridden much in the dark other than that … but maybe this winter ? neat video of guy riding forest roads through the night - he begins before sunset / dusk and rides until early morning side note: have the same bike - and (at one time) transported it in a cardboard bike box in similar fashion have no idea how he rode in those conditions with the stock / OEM slick tires - they are horrible |
I was out to vote today and made it a bike ride, only five miles but I haven't been out in about a week so it felt good.
|
Did 15 miles on a warm but blustery morning before I went to vote. Beautiful fall weather here and exceptionally warm, close to 80 here in southern New England tomorrow. Enjoy the day,

Not quite.
Don't often see cattle around with hair on their backs like shown in your photo. The light tan color "cow" has a fairly impressive patch on it's back- reminiscent of the plains Bison sometimes seen around here. I'm not a cattleman- simply just don't know what I was looking at.;) -D.S. |
About 35 miles over the last two days, mostly from one LBS, to another. Hit three in total to bring the new to me Motobecane up to snuff.
No photographic subjects at all- haven't been carrying the camera on these excursions. Episodic freezing rain passing quite close to localized last night, just south of the city. I better get my rear in gear and get what I can done to the bike while I still have dry road opportunities. -D.S. |

Maybe so, but at 40° or below the prospect of black ice and snow isn't something I want to have to 'adjust' my cycle-riding practices to.

12 miles so far today, mostly to checkout the Panaracer Pasela tire I put on the rear of the Motobecane Super Sprint.
I got the discontinued regular wire bead version in 700-28-C. Very slight spring to it under a heavy torque start. Very nice ride. Temperatures dropped a bit- I'm having to glove up these days to ride, and will soon start having to cover my head and ears. -D.S. |

I did a slow ride with a lot of climbing in the most remote area near me. Ended up doing 46 miles out and back. At one point, I went for over an hour without encountering a single other person or car. Good way to clear my head and get out of the funk I was in when I woke this morning.

agree - nice riding tire … the sidewalls are very thin - probably responsible for the ride however I do get annoyed at the tread’s ability / propensity to retain little stones etc I noticed the thin sidewalls while I was mounting it. Thought I had wrinkled the sidewalls at first. I'll get pix up later- probably have to wait for daylight to take them. I should try some bounce flash tonight. Guessing at this with the folding type bead- are inflation ratings a bit lower than standard wire bead in your tire size? Nice looking ride! A lot cleaner than mine! ETA photo's. https://i.imgur.com/4qKAqfS.jpg There's the road version of the original Pasela tread. It picks up a bit of the limestone gravel that is in abundance here. I think it will be a little cleaner after I get a couple of hundred miles on it. https://i.imgur.com/nog0sUv.jpg Slightly worn Continental Ultra Sport here that picks up a lot less gravel. Wet leaves are another story though, and will stick to anything. -D.S. |
Did an early 15 miles this morning and I am starting to feel pretty comfortable with that baseline. My plan is to move up to 20 next week which will get me very close to what my riding and fitness level was before the two total knee replacement surgeries I’ve had over this past 9 months. Another beautiful fall day here in southern New England. Grateful for the ride.

I got out later than I wanted this morning, but I did get out so there is that. I was 9 miles in when I remembered that I had a commitment for giving someone a ride, so instead of collecting more miles I turned around and headed home.

Beautiful day on the west coast. Got side tracked and only did 35 miles, but very few people out so it was nice. Weather is about to change so it's going to get tougher to get the higher mile rides in. I thought they were dredging, but after watching for a moment I realized they were pulling out old channel markers. Go figure,

Took a couple breaks (it's hilly up this way!) but managed that same 20 miles in 1:32, 1,040' elevation. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...98a37937c7.jpg I was aiming to break my longest ride this year by a mile or two. Everything came together to make it possible, even comfortable (!) once I got my act together. May very well be the last outdoor miles this year, but we'll see.... |
