Along the river trail on the N. side of the Assiniboine. River will be completely iced over in a couple of days, except for strong current spots.

Those paths are starting to look a little slick. We like bike porn, but not hearing about injuries. Be careful out there:)

Almost time to switch bikes. The Pasela on the rear is actually pretty good in this stuff- no over-spin (yet).
The Connie sport on the front, not so much. No hairy's yet, but I'm still quite far from pushing it.
When it does get to normal winter ice, I'll be on the MTB with it's better suited tires, and much lower gearing.

El Tour De Tucson yesterday. Started at 7am at 47 degrees, ended at 2pm at 82 degrees.100 miles, 2800’ of climbing.

Drove back to Salt Lake today. 22/46 tomorrow. Like a different world.

Hope those tires are studded. :D Enjoy and observe the directive -- *Stay Vertical*

cold weather can have same impact on me - including fairly low intensity rides … regardless of amount of clothing … etc

100 hiking is also impressive

Is that gears or temperatures? :D

Temperatures, but since I commuted to work on the old Trek, I probably used that gear ratio, too. ;)

Thanksgiving at the beach this year. I packed up my BSO hybrid to get some cruiser miles yesterday and take advantage of 70 degree weather. Rain and colder weather in the forecast for today though. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 !!

I have it's evil (northern) twin here, and I thought my seat tube was short!

Looks like we both have had to do some stem mods, for likely the same over-reach reasons.

Bit of running around today. Not quite sure on the exact total- to many stop-in's and go's.
Best W.A.G. would be around 11-13 miles.
Did get a decent coffee at my old work, and hello'd a familiar face or two.:D

Parked downtown. It warmed up to 16 f from the 13 f when I left home.
The cheap folding bead cruiser tires do well in the drifted up stuff- less grabbing and pulling than the big mudder knobbies the bike started out with.

Outside the S/W corner of the legislature from the west side.
Old early to mid 70's semi-wide lens distorts the rear wheel a bit here.
Still a good shot of scale...

It's way too cold (for me) to ride outside.

Last winter I posted Zwift rides here. I really enjoy the virtual riding, but acknowledge that it's training not cycling, and there's plenty of other BF space for yakking about training.

So, until it's back in the mid 40s...

Doc Sharptail 12-01-24 10:59 AM

It's been almost 3 days since I last rode, and my knees are starting to tighten up.
Will do a grocery run this afternoon, just to keep the legs up.
Dressing in layers, and reducing speed/exertion seems to work for me.
I huff and puff a lot more under load in the cold air- may have something to do with temperature based oxygen levels.
There's still a steep grade or two between here and the grocery store I use.

I have a pretty intense dislike for stationary bikes. There was an old tension multiplier stationary at work that I forced myself onto several times, but I could never get into it.
Tried riding my regular bike around in an indoor lot, and that grew old pretty quick- especially with the dust and dirt.
I'm going to have to get another pair of insulated pants fairly soon. I'll double up for now, but there's no sense in torturing myself.

I think if anyone is doing miles on a stationary indoor bike, or indoor riding and making distances, it should count, and be mentioned here.
If it works for you, more power to ya!

21 miles today total. Made 2 trips- one for groceries, and one for Rotissierie chicken.:D

https://i.imgur.com/zePobVE.jpg
Loaded up here outside the grocery store. 25 lbs of meats and cans on the rear rack. Pound of coffee, a couple of tomatoes and a handful of broccoli went into my pockets.
Gotta remember a second bag next time I go.

There's what 3 or 4 miles over sodium tri-chloride treated roads looks like.
Chain was actually starting to ice and skip a mile and a half from home.

https://i.imgur.com/ncySJyD.jpg

Before a quick clean-up just after the last run.
Glad I went. Knees are going to be a bit easier to live with for the next couple of days.
Going to have to keep up with this 3 or 4 times a week. Don't really want to get too far out of shape...

I think someone needs a set of fenders. Just saying :) Check out next post, I have the perfect foul weather bike. Sea salt and rain isn't going to matter to it.:thumb:

Someone left this in my driveway about 2 weeks ago. The chain was rusted solid. I still have much more to do to it, but after repacking all the bearings, replacing the chains and adjusting everything, it's rideable. Fortunately, it has friction shifter so I didn't have to replace cables yet. I took it out for a night ride tonight, about 15 miles. It rode pretty nice for a flatbar bike. 33°F with no wind. It was beautiful out. Xmas is in the air :thumb:
Oh, I should add, those fender came off my fave road bike. It will not be seeing anymore foul weather!

I doubt there's fender eyelets on that cheepo "suspension" fork. If I do find fenders for it, they're going to need generous clearance for those ice and salt lumps.:winter2:
How is the Flex treating you?

Not my Flex, but they seem to like it. Regarding fenders, they do make MTB fenders with lots of clearance for mud and have some pretty ingenious mounting methods that don't require 'eyelets' on the frame or fork. There are also some shortys that go behind the seat to protect your backside if nothing else. Can save a lot of time and aggravation in the laundry haha.

Thanksgiving week was crazy for me with family stuff so I took a week off. I'm training now for a 35 mile gravel race in late January. Yes, in Iowa. Did 12.7 miles in 45 minutes on the stationary bike today. Going to do that 3 times a week and do a longer outdoor ride on weekends when I have daylight.

Dang. I like the stationary bike idea but the thought of riding outside, at our latitude, pretty much anytime from late November until maybe mid-March just doesn't hold much appeal.

I congratulate you on your fortitude dude! Ride safe but ride on!

seedsbelize2 12-02-24 08:34 PM

Twice. 31 km on mixed surfaces in the morning and 12 km off road in the afternoon. It was just too nice a day to not go back out.

missinglink 12-03-24 06:22 PM

Got out for 9 miles today. I Figured I was already finished for the year, but the weather was near perfect temp wise today.

My year total (if I don't ride again) will be 1,582 miles. Almost twice what I rode during my 'Chemo year' last year.

Cornbiker 12-03-24 07:25 PM

Another indoor ride for 12.1 miles in 45 min. These sessions are boring. I watch soccer on ESPN+ mostly. They really help me maintain fitness though. It's cold and dark season here. Not much choice.

Same, though I was furthering my explorations after subscribing to Rouvy over last weekend. 7.6 'miles' in 32-1/4 minutes using one of their programmed workouts for newbies like m'self.

I need to figure out how to avoid "over-running" my pedaling output when the resistance my trainer's programmed for when it's changed by the routine I'm running. Either that or something's not quite right with my seat post height and/or seat angle. I'm finding it very hard to avoid hard jerks to my chain & chainring when my feet aren't 'synched' to a consistent cadence. More experienced Rouvy users are invited to critique my results today: http://riders.rouvy.com/workouts/743051

I finally got out and rode the Tucson Loop today, 55 mostly flat miles. I needed to pick up some car supplies at the Subaru dealer that's right on the Loop, ten miles away. So of course I rode 55 to get there. I brought two panniers to load up 6 qts of transmission fluid. Great day to ride, mid 70s, light winds, very little traffic.
