Chilly 11 mile ride this afternoon. First time in three years I didn't have saddle pain (had cysts removed last Friday). https://www.strava.com/activities/4238616929
Felt great to get out and ride. |
Amazing landscapes! Reminds me of Sammamish River trail to Washington Lake.
|
23 and found out that I’m a wimp. 900’ elevation gain kicked my butt. Yesterday’s 20 on my usual route only has 95’ elevation gain over the distance. Need to get out more.

Greetings from Buenos Aires. This week I resumed doing 10 - 20 milers after lower back pain treatment. So glad I am back riding again!
|
Rode one of my usual routes from home to the Township of Lacombe. 56km return. It was relatively nice out today (10C) compared to the unseasonably snowy cold snap that was thrown our way a week ago. Images of frozen bodies of water and remnants of snow are subtle precursors of what's to come.

15.8 miles on the trainer and 23.15 outdoors. |
62 miles...42 with a group plus 20 riding over and back to the start.

Took a spin around the city this morning and stopped by a few local attractions including this Tromp L'oeil mural on the side of our local museum. I bundled up a bit as the mercury dipped to -3C.

26.7 miles. Hopefully there will be a few more before winter sets in. |
56 miles........32 miles with a group of 13 averaging around 20 mph with a number of hills......plus 10 miles to the start and 10 miles back.

37 km of mostly gravel, 541 m. Not super warm (4C). Pretty barren scenery these days, no leaves left on the trees. Yesterday would have been a superb day but I spent it converting my tractor from a mower to a snowblower. It's an old tractor, not very well designed, so it was a 3 hour job. Very timely. Glad I did it, and glad I managed to squeeze in a ride today, because tomorrow's forecast is up to 15 cm of snow!
So from this: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ec9bca85f.jpeg I'll soon be going to more of this: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...808c80a85.jpeg |
43 miles solo with about 1700' of hills. Gorgeous day. 65 degrees, no clouds and marginal wind. Stopped at a new to me soda shoppe for a hot dog and coke. It's about 10 miles from the house so it might be good spot to use in the future on the way back from longer rides.
I Walked 18 holes this morning (like every morning M-F) with my buddies-34 degrees and heavy frost on the ground at the start but the greens were okay to play on. Didn't play well on the front 9 but shot a 1 under 35 on the back birdieing 17 & 18. Retirement ain't all that bad!! |
22 miles on a short rails to trails. It was only going to be a shorter opportunity ride so I didn't dress well for as warm as it turned out. But I loved the trail. Some friends have often invited me to ride about half of it with them where they stop for breakfast before turning around. Some Saturday when I'm not running, I'm going to take them up on it and take my old steel bike.

70 miles today. 70 degrees today. Last week, snow and cold. Crazy weather in Minneapolis!

58km on Sunday, 25km yesterday, and 57km today. Temp was 17C today and winds were calm. Won't be long now before the cold and snow are upon us. This pic was taken on the 1st at around 4pm MST. With DST in effect, the days are definitely getting shorter.

12.5 miles yesterday, windy, sunny and high 60s. After being off the bike for 4 weeks (too cold and windy for me), I took off later than I planned and had to fight sun in my eyes for half the ride. Too windy today, but the next several days look good for riding - sunny, 60s, and wind under 15 mph.

Whole battery charge ride
Actually, I started at 70% on my Vado 4 SL. Rode 40 miles yesterday. From Ashburn to Purcellville on the W&OD. I’d ridden about 25 miles to get down to 70. When I reached Purcellville I wast down to 27% which did not bode well for having assist on the way back.
Thus, it was now time to test the assertion that I could easily ride the Vado SL without assist. Fortunately, Purcellville to Ashburn is mostly downhill or at least downish. I rode the first 8 miles without assist except for a segment which rides through a traffic circle where I wanted the assist “just in case”. The Vado has a button to go to Turbo. So I kept the power on but at zero assist and hit the turbo button when I needed it. This really helped when crossing roads in the circle. I only consumed 1% of the charge during this stretch. So I rode the rest of the way in Eco with an occasional burst. By the last five miles I was pretty exhausted. My legs were numb and my feet kept falling off the pedals. Exhausted. When I reached my driveway, the power indicator on the bike was flashing red. According to Mission Control there was only 3% charge left. I’d finally done it. Used the whole battery riding. Extrapolating, my guess is that my range with the standard battery, riding mostly in Sport (level 2) is 50 to 60 miles. In the meantime, the range for my 72 year old body is about 40 miles. Guess I need two range extenders. One for the bike. One for me. |
Got a ride in this morning before some Winter-type weather moves in tomorrow through the weekend. It was nice and mild today!

Great day to be out on the bike! 110 miles with 5500’ of hills. Concord-Harrisburg-Unionville-Burnsville-Cottonville-Aquadale—Oakboro-Stanfield-Locust then back home.
Enjoyed seeing our Charlotte leading Cycling advocate showing a local group cycling paradise in Union and Anson Counties. Roads out there are superb for riding but it takes a little effort to get there as they are a couple counties away. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b0cd4109c.jpeg Leaf colors are starting to change in Piedmont NC. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f072438fb.jpeg Crossing the Rocky River.... did that lots today https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...99dc31f1d.jpeg Lunch at 70 miles https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...488ddae17.jpeg A closed bridge but was able to navigate around the barriers. 18% hill from a standing start on the other side! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...366f30f0c.jpeg Today’s ride. I tried trading my bike for it! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4d361bec8.jpeg Lots of mature cotton fields on today’s route. It was fun exploring some new to me roads. Only a couple surprises. A closed bridge and another road I was supposed to take turned out to be a gravel driveway ********** Just part of the adventure. |
23.4.miles chasing my shadow on a beautiful weather day in November!

67 windy miles today.

A short 22 mi today. Got coal-rolled by a pickup flying a Trump/Pence flag. Beautiful day/ride besides that.

These were images of my ride yesterday. It was a chilly 0 C outside and managed 32km on the local trails.

Nothing worse than confronting an overly cautious mother. Took a few shots and quietly slipped away. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4c6b9dd3c8.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fe4a73b423.jpgIt was snowing today and hasn’t stopped at the time of this post. I’ve officially switched over to winter mode which includes bike, gear and clothing and will likely be out again tomorrow after a round of snow shoveling. ;) |
1.5 hours today. First ride in more than a month. Felt really good, though I was really slow.
