Did a three hour CX-ride after work today. Ended by climbing over a hill overlooking Oslo and riding home by the new Skijumping arenas that are being prepared for the World Championships in 2011. Already 100 million $ over the budget but when Oslo should get a new "Holmenkollbakke" who cares?
This will be the small hill (Midtstubakken): http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...k/P1010318.jpg This will be the new Holmenkollen http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...k/P1010319.jpg |
The photos from France and Norway is amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing them.
My first commute to work. Van is in the shop and decided to just bike in-its about 11 miles. I'll take the long way home today to get in the regular Tuesday night 40 miler. |
43 miles this beautiful morning with temps in the upper 60's when I started. Looking forward to tomorrow's ride hoping the weather stays the same.

No.
It was predicted to be the Hottest Day Of The Year (so far) today, with Dangerously High Ozone Levels and Dangerously High Heat Indices! A family member was so horrified that I might ride home in 92° F and 50% humidity that I accepted an air-conditioned car ride just to shut the worrywart the ╒üque up. It should cool off tomorrow, at which point I will be harrangued about the possibility of late afternoon thunderstorms. Kevin |
Got out for my Tues. interval ride this afternoon. This time it was 4 min intervals. I kind of fell apart on the last rep though I did set new power max mark for the season for 4 min and beat my 3 min power from last week. I'm sure these numbers are not my max power at those times because they come in intervals with the notion of completing the set not going all out on one rep.

did, but shouldn't have. Was way too tired but dragged out 24 slow miles anyway. Need a couple of rest days, but just can't seem to listen to the body sometimes! Hopefully it will rain.

Tuesday 8/18/09... Tough ride today with the other slo spoke team member (My daughter). The day started with her rear tire going flat then I could not get the tire to seat properly so it was off to the bike shop before we hit the road. Temp was in the high 70s with the humidity at 94% when we started. Wind was not a factor today but rain storms were. We got caught in three small showers and one real bad lightning storm. All is well in slo spokes household. :thumb:
Todays distance 47.22 (s)miles Total distance this mo. 417.94 (s)miles Total distance this yr. 4,164.45 (s)miles It doesn't get any better than this!!! |
I did the usual 15mi / 25km round trip to the office on the Peugeot, which has been working out extremely well as a commuter/beater.

Been too hot and humid for me to ride on road, so it's the trail bike, through the woods in early evening. Looked a bit threatening of rain tonight, but gave it a try. At mile 2 the rain came. Hoping it would be light and a quick past. At mile 4, I was soaked, glasses fogging over. I turned around. Rain still didn't let up. Trail starting to flood, lightning every few minutes. Thought I might be taken out when I crossed the bridge over the Schuylkill River, but my attention was turned to the puddles on bridge. Tyres seemed to scoop up a quart of water in each puddle and dump it in my shoes. I could feel the river of water forming on my back (took the fenders off last week). Reached the Rt 422 over pass and decided to park and wait. Finally rain stopped. I continued slowly as trail was now a small creek in many places. About 1/2 mile from car I had to go around, step over and squeeze under five trees down on trail. Obviously some high winds went thru at that spot, I fortunately didn't experience any. Back home the bike cloths were so full of trail grit, I rinsed them out in the toilet. Then into the washer. A very wet 8 miles tonight.

Daily commute to-and-from college. I'm a student, again. Glad I have the light set on the bike and working well, was getting dark when I got home tonight.

I ride almost every day, but today was a little longer than usual. It was forecast as a 80F day with calm to light winds so I headed to a town 50 miles away for lunch. 102.6 glorious miles on a perfect day. Life (and retirement) is good. :)

We have been vacationing on a small island in Lake WInnipesaukee. There are no roads, so we are experiencing a two weeks that are not only bike free, but vehicle free. All travel is by boat or foot. After riding every workday, it feels quite odd.

Summer is just about over here, I can feel it. We've been humid lately but that is supposed to break this weekend. Usually it disappears by the first of Sept. like throwing a switch. Today's ride was in the mid 70s and overcast. I followed yesterday's intervals with an hour in zone 3. Of course there are always those hills that cause me to get to threshold or slightly above. That's just the nature of riding in the mountains. 20 miles in 1:08 with 1300ft of short but sometimes steep climbing.
|
Many more days like this morning and I'm sure I'll ride everyday till the end of summer. A 40 mile ride again this morning. Looking at my record, I have been averaging 40 mile ride for the month of August and there's 12 days left and maybe I will not only crack the 600 mile month but possibly even break 700. I wish the weather cooperate.

The daily ride from Wiscasset to the Alna center store and back IS going great the folks gathered for breakfast there are fun and full of ideas some I can even print and the different ways to get there keep the ride from being dangerous or boring. Im looking forward to the longer route that I feel Is nessecary because rt.218 shoulders are in terrible shape[as most back roads here are, this route will be for trailer and dog.Because of the bad road shoulder condition anyone who should come to join me on this ride should consider useing a mtn. bike. When school starts[may be soon]This ride will start at Frances Nadeau chainsaw at the turn from rt1 to rt.27 in wiscasset.;Keep a single track mind./Kenneth

That sounds like autumn around here. ;)
To be fair, WW is older and has various health problems. That, and the meds to control them, makes WW more susceptible to heat and humidity than I am. It's only 88° F and 55% right now. Today, I rode. Kevin |

Rode 11 street miles on my MTB to pick up my car that I left at a bar last nite. Got a ride home with a friend's wife picking his drunk ass up.
BTW I had always heard Kilimanjaro was the leader in visible land mass over Diablo. I believe it's not relly second though. I was just looking at some of my posts and realized this was the 50+ forum. So my ride actually will happen in just over 6 years. I'll be in your group if all goes well, but not yet; not yet. |
I rode my recumbant today, as I have this week, to work (about 4 miles). The weather is really nice, and I can take an extended route back to make about a 12 mile trip out of it.

Wednesday 8/19/09... Good ride today with the other slo spoke team member (My daughter). Temp was in the high 70s with the humidity at 95% when we started and only 84 degrees when we finished. The wind was not a factor today until we hit the rain storms. We got caught in one real hard wind and rain storm and it seemed like the rain was comming down sideways. We stopped in Winter Garden and took a tour of the Cat Trike factory, very interesting. Boy do I want one!!!!

I had a faster than usual ride today. As I often do, I rode northbound on the North Branch Bike Path that starts in Chicago and ends in Glencoe. I returned by traveling along the Lake Michigan lake shore to Evanston and Skokie.
I was able to cover 35 miles in 1 hour 55 minutes. One of my faster solo rides this year. I'm also at 497 miles MTD. Cheers, Michael |
