70 km, 1800 vertical meters, Col de Sarenne, it's above Alpe d'Huez, sort of a back door entrance to the ski station, much more enjoyable ride than the famous route but way harder with lots of double digit grades and ramps up to 15% or so. Great ride, hardly a cloud in the sky. Started with the crete d'Oisans, a fine ride by itself, then finished with the fine ride across the mountain instead of dropping down to Bourg d'Oisans. All n all a fabulous outing. Took about 120 pics. Fine day.

Please, let's see some of the pics ? I had a nice 30 mile forestroad ride with my 20 year old son today. Chocolate cake and waffles on a farm midway.

Twenty miles, mid-town Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean and back - this after having two stents placed in my left coronary artery on Monday afternoon (but don't tell my Dr.).

Route: La Cienega and Olympic Blvd, over to Colorado Blvd at Stewart Ave., left and west the Santa Monica Pier (and the terminus of Route 66), north along Ocean Ave. to San Vicente Blvd, and back to my home via Santa Monica Blvd/Olympic Blvd. Two short hills, one each way, no chest pain, as per my ride and subsequent hospitalization last Sunday.

Tandem ride, 36 easy spinning miles in the ag lands=recovery ride. It was a pleasant change of pace from the hammerfests I've been doing.

33 miles and reached my personal top speed of 40 mph on a short downhill, what a hoot! I loved it. I had no plan when I left but ended up getting in a nice ride even though a lot of it was in a headwind. Hot and humid and I ran out of fluids close to home. I could have stopped at a store but it was no big deal. Saw two icecream trucks in the neighborhoods I cut through and wanted to stop so bad but didn't feel like breaking a $20 for a icecream cone.

Thanks, BD. We've both come a long way in our recovery. As for the finger, it's fine, a pretty minor thing from the perspective we both have these days.

It is so interesting, reading about everyone's rides. I'm thinking we should have always had a ride report thread here, for those not wanting to dedicate an entire new thread to a short ride report.

Did 20 brisk pre-dawn miles yesterday while riding home from work. Warm temps (low 70's, brisk pace 70 minute ride).

Rode my Mtn. bike the 5 miles to work this morning into an 8 mph headwind (light breeze). It would have been more enjoyable on the SWB 'bent (it's in pieces in my garage...overall cleaning and adjustments, also replacing worn front and rear brake pads). I felt like a big sail catching the wind up there on top of the Trek!!

Kragg 08-17-09 06:43 AM

35 hot south jersey miles. Nice ride though. : )

Darn, where the heck is the "jealous" smiley?

Yesterday, 25 hot miles, same route as my fast ride of Friday, but much more painful, harder and hotter than Friday! Definitely chafing not healed, and body not recovered from the threshold riding on Friday. Plus instead of pie we stopped at an A&W for burger and a root beer. Might have made it home jbetter on pie!

Rode my Rans Stratus recumbant to work today, about 4 miles. I'l do more on the way home. It's really enjoyable to ride in the morning in the summer, with the sun, the light breeze, etc.

Summer has not been friendly to cycling. Even the hammerheads have been canceling and postponing.

We have had numerous wildfires which have burned nearly 3,000,000 (Three million) acres last time I looked. As a result most of the summer has had smoke ranging up to over 1000 pm3. Much of the time in the 300 pm3 range. (That is Unhealthy to Put On Your Breathing Apparatus air quality)

Last week the rain started. It looks like today will be nice enough to ride.

So, lots of Spin Classes and lots of indoor activities. Oh well, snow soon and time for winter sports.

Retired and 71 this year. I ride at least 3 times a week. Today I did 34 miles on the trails in town. Lincoln Ne has 128 miles of excellent hard surface trails in town. I ride a RANS Stratus recumbent and am almost sorry I didnt go further. Its amazing how good you feel when you arent riding in pain.

Boy, that's for sure. Please remove them. It intimidates we mortals from posting our little snap shots.

Since I've put a power assist kit on my mountain bike, I've been getting out and riding a minimum of 10 miles a day. Did 25 the other weekend. (My knees appreciate the help on the hills here. I try to pedal most of the time, but I don't hesitate to use power on steep hills.) I'm finding that I'm seeing more of the area I now live in on the bike than I've seen in the truck. (I'm in the northern US Rockies, west of Glacier National Park.) I lived and worked most of my career in the Washington, D.C. area. I never had the courage to ride the roads there. I always put the bike on the car-mounted rack and drove to trails. It's nice to be able to ride on the roads here--many drivers actually smile and wave when they see cyclists. Here are a few photos from some of the mountain roads I've been exploring. (This forest is 2.2 million acres so I don't think anyone could explore all the forest roads here.)

Ahh...rain stopped, fires are dampened, sun appeared and temp warmed to +65F. Jumped on bike for first outdoor ride since early July. A nice easy 20 miles winding next to a very, very low river and then a golf course, through some mild hills and back home. Just a hair over an hour of smiles!

kenkayak 08-18-09 09:46 AM

Ambient: 90F
Humidity: 71%
Dew Point: 77° F

but a tail wind and 20+mph all the way back on the return leg!
