Heading back to Jasper

58 miles today, from home to the end of the Hawthorne Trail and back. Low humidity for the past 3 days and gorgeous sunsets mean fall and winter are not far off. Pics are at trail’s end in the Town of Hawthorne, and one of the numerous tortoises that bless our parks. He was much larger than appears here, and didn’t seem fazed by my presence at all.

The Greenbrier Bicycle Gang rode 18 miles Saturday. Five of us, four male and one female. The gang members all live in an active 55 community. We try and ride together for the comradery, company and safety. We ride at all speeds, from 8 mph to 18, but wait at various intervals for stragglers and have helped with flats and accidents.

a great time was had by all.

Well, after starting to ride again in March 2019 and 5060 miles later the unthinkable finally happened today, I had a puncture:(

I knew it was only a matter of time but was hoping to keep the record going a few thousand more miles. Although I'd be happy if I could go another 5000 miles without one.

Rode a pair of fifty milers this weekend with a two hour surf session each day.

Everyone appreciates a quiet, private, nature spot. Mine on the morning recreational route is a river stop.

I did the 58 mile ride today in flat FL. My brother in law and nephew are at my place in VA and they attempted 50 in the hills. BIL is my age, and the hills about killed him. Next weekend we’re supposed to do 62 in the same place. I guess we’ll see.........

Put decals in the rims, I think it looks a bit better. Next week I’ll be on the Bianchi........

Almost 26 miles today. Partly cloudy, high 60s, a cold wind cut through my 3 layers up top. I've got to remember the wind is my problem, not internal heat. Cracked 1050 miles for the year, so far. Not bad given that I lost 4 weeks to quarantine and recovery for a pacemaker insertion. Cooler weather seems cooler in the Fall than the same conditions in Spring.

Tiny ride today due to achy knees. Put rubbing alcohol on them, hopefully tomorrow ride will be longer with no pain. Ho hum. Did feel good though to get back on that bicycle 🚲

How do you like the Trek compared to the Bianchi? I'm thinking of getting another bike. I've looked at the Domane as well as buying a Dogma F10 frame from Excel and having it built locally.

This is my second Trek - the new SLR7 is a much improved version of the 6.2 P1 that I bought in 2012. I'm running the same Di2 group set on both bikes with same discs, and let's call the wheels a wash (CF ENVE versus Aeolus). Both run tubeless, but the Trek has 32s versus 28s with the Bianchi (I will switch to 32s when the Bianchi is ready for new tires). The Domane might be a tad heavier but I don't feel it on the open road.

So it really boils down to the frame fit, right? The Bianchi is a bit more aggressive even though the Infinito is touted as an endurance bike. The Domane has a longer wheelbase and a lower BB, which provides more stability on descents (but it can bottom out on sharper turns). Trek's IsoSpeed front and rear do a great job of killing road buzz without moving excessively.

They're both great looking bikes IMO. So it's a matter of personal preference, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the Domane. But this is really a first world problem....

62 miles today in the rugged mountains of VA. I set up the Bianchi for the mountains - smaller gearing and slightly shorter 172.5 cranks. It rocks! Check out my new matching bottles.

Another incredibly beautiful day to be outside! Our golf course wasn’t open for members today so opted for a bike ride. The intention was to look for early fall colors and eat a BBQ lunch at Stameys in Tyro. 100 miles but missed my SAG lady!!!

With the warmer weather leaf color is still not very abundant here in Piedmont NC but some maple trees in the full sun are looking very nice.

Yes, I did ride today! 13.4 miles which, if I leave at 5PM when I finish work, is about as much as I can get in this time of year before it gets too dark for me to be comfortable riding. But the big thing? During the ride, I put my 1,000th mile on my bike since I got it at the end of April.

jppe 10-24-20 10:01 AM

54 miles total. 11 miles over to the start and 32 miles with 6 others, then 11 miles back home.
