I finished Assault on Mt. Mitchell yesterday for the second time in three years. As I started up the mountain I kept asking myself what in the world made me sign up for this again. At least I PR'ed. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e046601c91.jpg
I saw where an 18 year old was the first finisher in 5 hours. |

Way to go! Hopefully it wasn’t too hot but I suspect it was warmer than normal. I’m an Assault on Mt Mitchell veteran as well. It’s a lot of climbing once you start up the last 5 miles on Hwy 80 to the Parkway. That 5 mile stretch is pretty steep as well. The last time I rode AOMM was 5-6 years ago when I turned 60. I was trying finish under 7 hours but wound up 2 minutes over and well off my PR of 6 hrs 37 mins.
I saw where an 18 year old was the first finisher in 5 hours. Yes, an 18 year old did it in 5:06:09 average speed of 20mph. Crazy! |
18 mile tandem club ride this morning (no hills) followed by a tandem club cookout/get-together to listen to the Indy 500. (This happened in Indy) Who won? A French guy.

Went for a real quick spin to the local park and back, before the temps soar to 94° in the shade....
7.50 miles in 30:13 including some short, but nasty hills, but like the "little engine that could" I had no trouble making it up them. https://i.imgur.com/KhtCkLh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uR8bLS3.jpg |
26 miles on the tandem this morning on a club ride. A couple of very mild hills.

Went down to Ocracoke Island, NC for the long weekend and rented bikes and a trailer to haul our luggage and beach gear around the island. Wonderful restaurants, B&B, and beach, complete with multiple dolphin sightings. |
32 mile ride on the local bike path on my 1985 Cannondale ST 400. It's been raining a lot so I've been taking my arkel tail rider along as it holds a raincoat plus other stuff I know I don't need. I rode it pretty easy since I rode pretty hard yesterday.

30.5 miles on my 1981 Nishiki Maxima. Longest ride after the C5/C6 fusion in January. Other than some sore muscles it went great.

Well, yesterday. My post from the Hybrid forum...
I left before dawn for an easy spinning 22 mile ride on my 2013 Fuji Absolute 2.1. It was a beautiful morning in Lewisville, Texas on Memorial Day. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d0118c2c05.jpg Early morning illumination. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8b7e7c76b1.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9939587908.jpg Memorial Day in the USA. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...58027be3af.jpg Murals in the historic downtown area of our little town https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...07f97b7c39.jpg Murals in the historic downtown area of our little town. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a77edef815.jpg The lake is above flood stage, so i had to turn around... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...88e5c9de7c.jpg |
Got in 23 miles this morning. First day of some nice sun in awhile.

I couldn’t leave it there https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e81c7e979.jpeg Moved it out of the road to here https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...99c05aee9.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0ca817db4.jpeg My son’s dog. Still recovering from a snake bite on her back left leg. 78 miles with 3200’ of hills at a turtle pace. Another save today! Then took my son’s dog for a walk in a park pretty close to our house. Too much to do today, so at least I got in a real quick 7.60mi spin around the neighborhood. 28:33 for an (avg) of 16.0 mph, which was a real nice cruising speed too.

Group ride, 45 miles Friday. Waited too long to get started Saturday, rained out afternoon. And 24 solo miles Sunday. Pretty good weekend.
|
I got 62.4 miles in today. Got out at 6. Best part of going out early on a Sunday morning. No traffic and so far it was a cool morning. But those are just about gone, cool weather that is.

Attended a tandem weekend at Fort Wayne with about 23 other teams and rode 26, 29, and 31 mile rural routes on Fri, Sat and Sun. (Those were the short routes.) Very wet up that way - saw no farmland with crops planted and lots of standing water in the fields. (Dry weather for our rides)

New here... I'll be 75 in July. Riding now for exercise and because I'm attempting to lose weight. Working on 60-minute rides at least twice a week. Since January I've lost 32 pounds. I'm slow on uphills. How can I speed that up???
|
Up in the hills this morning putting in some good mtb riding on one of my hardtails. Got a rear flat on my last run. I guess my tube couldn't take what I was throwing at it. lol

Just now back from a 2.5hour ride, starting just before dawn and finishing under cloudy skies and diffuse lighting. 67F. I had no particular plan other than ride and enjoy. At the end of the greenway, I stashed my helmet behind a downed tree and carried up the rocky trail, just to soak in the green and birdsong. Back on the road I picked routes counter to the incoming commuters. Everything went great and so far this year my body is saying yes to riding, which hasn't been true every year.
I really love this little section of road with the tree tunnel. I'm not crazy about whoever used the herbicide. I'd guess that's the power company tree and vegetation crew being over-diligent, since as you can see there are no actual power lines. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...55e764a131.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0981ab2728.jpg |

My riding partner today! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7760cee86.jpeg Harvest time. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...989e836cf.jpeg I left a water bottle on this bench a month ago. I swung by the store to see if they still had it. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e4e4f786b.jpeg I ran into a friend out doing a training ride and he took this picture. Cloudy! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b31a025d7.jpeg This is a really good friends driveway. While he lives out in the country his driveway is easy to spot! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b86599086.jpeg Stopped by Jersey Mike’s for a #6 combo a couple miles from the house. The golf course wasn’t available to us today so enjoyed a nice 81 miler with 4200’ of hills. Great day to ride, cloudy and cooler. |
Today - 11 tandem miles early afternoon. One short steep hill. Poured down rain late afternoon.
Yesterday - 19 long wheelbase ti miles with a few mild hills/rollers. |
LOL, yes I did but only 6 miles RT to take the Terra Trike Rover Tandem to the local car wash and clean it up from getting caught in the rain last Sunday on a recumbent group ride!

Sunny but lots of headwinds this morning.
