Wednesday two trips to the library. I had a book due for the early trip, and then later some book transfers came in so I went back for more. It's a 15 minute trip on my previous best, but I made it in 12, better than I can do in the car. I skated in there just before they closed, about one minute to spare. I'm feeling pretty good about that. I guess I was speeding. Maybe 30 feet net elevation loss which helped a lot. Added another ten miles JRA after.
Yesterday, Shingrix part 2. Today, my entire body feels crushed. Onset after 8 hours. I guess that's the immune response? Part 1 for me was a month and a half ago. Most significant vaccine side effects I have ever had but quite tolerable and gone within about 6 days. Looking forward - not - to second shot at 2-6 months interval. Tandem ride today with tandem offshoot of local bike club. 33 miles followed by lunch. |

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0a3f9d5e9d.jpg It also happened to be my son's debut on the "A" ride. He's right in front of me in the RSR bibs. We hung in the back and I was worried that he'd have trouble dealing with the surges with his junior gears, but actually having Jumbo Visma out there kept things pretty smooth. For the most part they just went to the front and motored. Lucas was spinning like a madman, but he held on the entire way. In fact, I don't think he ever was in difficulty. He got some nice attaboys from quite a few riders on the neutral ride back into town. In the words of the late great Chris Farley: That was awesome. |
29.5 miles 166 for the week now it’s grilling time :D

46 miles, just made it over 100 for the week. The weather just sucks here.

Yes, Stage 1 tomorrow so they were just out to stretch their legs a bit. There’s a local kid on Jumbo, Neilson Powless, who does this ride during the winter and brought his teammates today.

Good for you! Managed 93 miles this week - “sucks” is the right word for the weather. Rain, wind and a little anemic sun (except for Monday).

Gorgeous ride this morning, 2 hours while the entire county seemed to be either in church or in bed still. Love riding on holidays!

Crossing High Rock Lake https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14c20e448.jpeg I love the removable fender. I was ready for the rain! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fc8299aa4.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...de22a166e.jpeg Enough dirt and gravel to walk across. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ba954ca4f.jpeg The old culvert got stopped up and washed out the road. 61 miles over to the in-laws for Mothers Day. I rode faster than normal trying to beat the foul weather. |

Not sure what time you were out but I can assure you that nobodies were in church for the majority of the time that I was riding today. Computer went on at 12:30AM and off at 6:30AM. I was finally able to complete the ride I wanted to do the two previous times I went out this past week. The 100 mile first segment of Tuesday's 141 miles was better than Friday's 91 miles as far as accuracy but today's ride turned out to be the pièce de résistance !!! https://www.relive.cc/view/2361559275 |

33 miles this morning with 8 other folks on a club M-W-F training ride. About 45 F at the start, which is COLD for May 13.

Sunday afternoon, a "bathtub ride", down out of the hills, across the valley and up the other side, then down across and up again, then down and up onto the home hill.
Last night a long two hour meander after dark. Solid ride. Two dog encounters and one long multi-part honking-at by a passing pick-up.

Saturday was miserable, I was just absolutely flattened and had a to cut short a shopping trip to come home and collapse. By Sunday evening though I was pretty good and squeezed a ride in. At the pharmacy I asked the person giving me the shot how the side effects would be this time around. She said they're usually not as bad as the first time, but that had the feeling of comforting words without factual backing. It was worse. But I'm sure yours will go better. :) |

Today - 24 mile club ride. |
21 1/2 miles this morning on the Silver Comet Trail. First time I have gone over 8 miles in about a decade.
My taint hurts, but I felt great other than that. Took me 1:36 with a five(ish) minute break at the 10 mile point, and a couple of stops to take pictures. So 13 1/2 mph. I'm ok with that - for now. |
Got home a little after lunchtime, and immediately hopped in the shower, as the temp soared up to 84° already, here in Richmond, VA!
I enabled "Strava" on my phone, and rode 32 miles in a big loop into the next county and back home. 32.00 miles exact from my driveway. 2 hr 5 min 58 sec total time. 15.2 mph avg speed. https://i.imgur.com/usqPud5.jpg Here's a closer image on my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey and the Farmer's Market across the street in Manakin-Sabot, VA on Broad St. https://i.imgur.com/PCXSmrk.jpg |
I wanted to do 40 to complete my 100 for the week but only had time to do 30. It was a great day which meant that all the usual NYC riding spots were packed. I wouldn't even try to go to Central Park.

A 34 mile tandem ride/club ride earlier today. Hot and sunny but not as hot/humid as it will be getting before long.
|
A 61 mile organized ride. I was worried how I’d do with a bad back plus the 100 milers on Wednesday and Thursday but the legs did okay.

Wonderful ride
I got in 35 miles this morning on my recently rebuilt early 90s steel. I have owned the bike since it was new, bought in 1992. I had the bike equipped as a flat bar the last 4 or 5 years but spending time on BikeForums convinced me to rebuild the bike from the raw frame. Riding that bike this morning was a terrific experience! It all came back to me just how much I loved riding this bike. It is comfortable, quick and nimble. It rides really good into the wind. My new, old bike just became my favorite ride again, 2 hour ride and no tingling, numb hands. It is my first rebuild and I spent more dollars than I was planning on, but the end product is worth every bit of it. It was also my first experience doing a rebuild. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...19967c7a35.jpg

Waiting for Winter Part II to end here in NorCal.
I can't believe it's mid-May and it's cold and raining. At this time of the year my riding should be full steam. Really sucks. |

I can't believe it's mid-May and it's cold and raining. At this time of the year my riding should be full steam. Really sucks. I rode 55 miles, including some the ATOC segments from Stage 5 of the men’s race and Stage 1 of the women’s race. Arroyo Paredon Creek bridge, which was nearly washed away during the 2018 Montecito mudslides was finally repaired in time for the men’s race to go through the area (last year the race had to be detoured around the damaged bridge). https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8e67e1ee5.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d88fcc4a1.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...52e821552.jpeg |
Bonked. 44 miles, 4,800’ climbing up 2 ‘gaps’. About 75% gravel. Ran out of water, steam and battery power on the final climb. Need to be better prepared for this approx. 65 mile, 6,000’ loop.
