I took a new guy at work to one of the better local MTB trails today. Just a few minutes into the singletrack, I clipped a tree with my left handlebar and crashed hard on the right side. My right knee took a decent scrape and hurt for a few seconds, but I was able to continue without a problem from the knee. My bike was less unfazed as the rear derailleur hit a rock and was knocked out of alignment. I guess the hanger probably was bent slightly. For the rest of the ride I had trouble with the chain jumping off the largest two cogs of the cassette, especially when using the smallest front ring. So I was without my lowest gears.
This made technical climbs on the singletrack a real pain. Having to push a bigger gear than I wanted caused me to get very winded much sooner than usual. Fortunately, there were trail sections with more flowing terrain where I could roll in higher gears, so I managed to get in a good ride anyway. When I got home, my wife had bought pizza and there was beer in the fridge. :D |
Did indeed. Rode my age (61) and then some for a total of 66.4 mi. Ave spd 17.5 mph.

I went out with a man from our team and a local woman racer -- have ridden with both of them for several years now. Both have more race experience than I but today I wasn't worried about being dropped.
We did our regular 30 mile loop in our small chainrings (we all have compact doubles), spinning at an easy tempo. Wind was a factor on the way out but it wasn't unbearable. We talked a lot -- and we all agreed how much we enjoyed that. I ended up with 33 miles, avg. 15.3 mph, avg HR 118 bpm. Nicest recovery ride I've ever had. |
35.2 miles this morning. Didn't even get into the local MUP as there was too much traffic with joggers, walkers, rollerbladers and other cyclists.

Did a 50-mile ride today out to the small town of Tieton. Had lots of rain the last couple of days (unusual for around here), so the air was clean and the skies very blue. Some big apple-hauling trucks coming and going. Got reproached in Tieton for not stopping at a stop sign. There was just me and a car fifty yards down the road. The passenger in the car told me to stop at the sign as they passed me. Saw about eight other cyclists on the road during my ride.

About 2 hours today, probably close to 20 miles. Was a great day to ride, with little traffic, bright little clouds here-and-there, and lots of prairie dogs yipping to each other as I drove the roads near their dens. :)

alittle late with the reports but Friday after work I went out and forgot water bottles and got a flat on the way home with a 24 mile ride, next day I went out and was planning a 40-50 mile ride but got yet another flat around the 16 mile mark and when I fixed it I saw a bubble on the sidewall and had to deflate it and put in a tire boot so I say that was two flats really and it took both co2 bottles so I cut that ride short and did 37. Sunday I was going out and had two guys pass me an they sort of startled me because that was the first time anyone has ever passed me. I asked to fall in behind them and they were like sure come on. This was the first time I really drafted anyone and I went with them for a few miles and took a couple cycles in the rotation and it was cool really. I told them I was new at drafting/paceline and they said I would be fine. They told me I was doing great and I thanked them for it.They were heading a different direction so I turned left and they right and I ended up with 47 miles that day. I think I could have done over 50 but when I started riding with those two guys I went straight at one point to ride with them and cut off some of my planned route. No ride today though.

It rained in Eugene area on Saturday and Sunday, this morning was cool and sunny. I enjoyed a 40 mile ride in the country west of Eugene, Crow, Noti, Veneta and back to town. Sorry, it was a no pie ride today.

I did 25 easy miles yesterday evening from my new home in Crowley, exploring country roads, most of which I'd never ridden before. I've spent the last week moving, and this was my first ride since the Hotter 'N Hell Hundred, Aug 29th. That's too long to go without a ride.

Ahh, Eugene. I lived their 20 years ago and that was the last time I cycled semi-actively. I have very fond memories of riding up to the area around Spencer's butte (well, I've probably forgotten that the hill was kind of a pain) and then riding the country roads to the S and W of the city.
Come back out and ride, it has only gotten better since you were here. |
Rest day today. 193 miles since Friday (72 yesterday)

Was thinking it was going to be raining after work but it turned out to be riding weather so I did just a tick under 35 miles and did it in a tad over 19 average.(19.3) I guess with a days rest yesterday and favorable winds I got in a super ride! I'm stoked about the above 19 mph avg. I had to work at it coming in too. Temps were high 70's and cloudy , it was nice.

31 fast, intense miles on a group/race team ride. Some are racing this weekend, some are finished for the season. I thought we'd have a moderate ride. Silly me!
Here's the short version: Warm up fast, early sprint, group is shelled. A Cat 3 who isn't interested in suffering hangs back and pulls me to the group. The Cat 4 who initiated the sprint comes back and with one blocking wind, one pulling, I managed 31 mph, 110 rpm, Tha154 bpm for nearly 4 miles before I cracked. That was big fun right there. After 19 miles I couldn't keep up and was one of several who were dropped. I caught a couple riders and kept going. Now, after accumulating 160+ miles in 5 consecutive days, I'm sore and happy for a day off. |
no, but I ran a 5k (slow, 30:03). Hope to work from home tomorrow. If I do I might get a 15-20 mile ride in before work.
