Hello all/beautiful weather here in Maine I did a 25 mile road /mtn run/ditched the dog;used the new mtn bike ;that I really like/Aluminum Diamondback ;the low[climbing gear] is a bit high but huffing and puffing enough to make do so far.//going to ride Litchfield and the Basin here on the coast over the next two labor day //days./Kenneth

Slept late and got a late start today. Cut my road ride short at about 32 miles so I could be home for the kickoff. Go DAWGS!!

Red Rider 09-05-09 10:31 PM

I went out early and encountered many happy cyclists today. The weather was perfect.

About 19 mi. into the ride I came upon my girlfriends/teammates so I turned around and retraced my route. Got 35 miles in just tad bit slower than yesterday...hope I didn't overwork my legs. I want to beat last year's time and fresh legs would help.

After the rest of my day (yardwork, dead battery in car+AAA fix, errand-running) none of me is fresh. :(

We'll see what a good night's sleep brings.

Did 46 miles on a mostly-rural mostly-flat-with-a-few-hills club ride yesterday. Perfect weather - warm but not hot.
About a mile from the finish, feeling pleased with my 16mph average speed, was passed as if standing still by a paceline of 20 or 30 folks moving along at a snappy pace, as the old-timers say. Really spoiled my mood. Especially since I figured that they were finishing the 60 mile route.:twitchy:

Yep, and no doubt every one of them was wishing they were as relaxed and comfortable as you were and wondering when the FUN was supposed to start!! :recum:

Did 61 miles on Saturday Sept. 5. I went from Framingham, to Wayland to Sudbury into Concord to the old North Bridge from there to Lincoln then to Lexington to the Lexington Green and back home to Framingham, all this in the state of Ma. where I live. I had a great ride through farm land and saw lots of historic places.

Stopped in Lexington and had lunch on the commons. It was a sunny beautiful day for a ride. The ride I had was what riding is all about.

It's not everyday I get to ride a new route in my area. I've ridden most of them many times, however we had a foursome of 50+ riders today on a new route none of us had ever done! We got to an intersection and had no idea which was the correct way to go. We chose wisely. :thumb: The ride was 47 miles with a bunch of climbing. I have no idea how much, maybe 4500' or more. The ride took 3:40 riding and 4 hours total time. The group started on wet roads but we never got rained on. Another great day on the bike.

Esparto Time Trial: Three years ago Velodiva suggested I ride this and I did. That was the last time I was faster than she. :(

18 mostly flat/some rollers miles, out-and-back, in 53:41. Good enough for 5th place. :D Accelerated and hammered the whole way back and finished strong; felt great throughout.

Came home and looked at last year's results: 4th place, 51:03. :notamused:

I'm getting older and slower. Boo. :twitchy:

But you know what? I still had fun out there. Every day that I can ride my bike is an excellent day.

Sunday 9/06/09... Short mileage day today only 22 miles to the LBS for some new break pads. My daughter will be spending Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday with us so I hope to get in some high mileage with her.
All is well in Slo Spoke Jim's household. :thumb:

22.46 (s)miles today
171.63 (s)miles this month
4,658.17 (s)miles this year
5 ride days this month (Sept.)

A slow easy 20 miles today, except that I actually found a steep hill here in the Twin Citiies! Ramsey Hill. It's only 1/4 long, but it's a 10% grade. That's a frickin mountain out here in the flatlands. It kicked my butt, but at least I didn't have to get off and walk.

That's 1/4 mile, in case it's not obvious from context.

Good stuff.

BTW, it is easy to edit a post - just click on "edit" in the lower righthand corner. I make so many mistakes, that it is a rare post that I don't edit!

Cool, now go back and ride that hill again! Eventually, you'll ride back down and do repeats just because you can.

This will never apply to me:D

Went out early and did single track mtn bike stuff near my home. A lot of fun. Got bogged down once in some sand. I would have made it, but I was facing directly east, and the sun was just coming up and I was totally blinded.

I hope so. The emphasis, though, is on "eventually".

Got up a little late (work nights), but went out and rode an easy, enjoyable 11 miles. Only been riding about 3 weeks, so kinda trying to be smart instead of brave. You need to start early here in Phoenix if you want to go too, too far and it wasn't my day for that anyway.

Good for you. I'm just beginning week 8, so I know what it's like to be starting out. As the more experienced folk around here will tell you, you can't push every day, but to make progress you do have to push some days

VROD 09-06-09 07:49 PM

great day today slept until 8:30 watched a little tv talked with the wife then rode the motorcycle to cary (200mi round trip) to rei to get 2 bicycle tires. When I got home the moto gp was just coming on tv Rossi won again man that kid can ride a motorcycle. Then I put the tires on the bike and off for a ride did 20mi stopped at the house ate 2 1/2 bacon and tomato sandwich's then 30 more miles.
LIFE IS GOOD

scooter_dude 09-06-09 09:40 PM

yep, MinnMan, trying to incorporate both. Rode a fast (for me) 17 miles at exactly 17 mph Friday. Bought Joe Friel's book about cycling after 50 and am trying to put use some of his wisdom. That guy is a wealth of knowledge.

Willbrewer 09-07-09 02:47 PM

Nice day for a ride here. I did 31 miles, mostly relaxed but for a while I hit it hard just to get the heart rate up and the sweat dripping.

A couple of days ago I rode the Gorilla century in Pittsburg KS. Ended up doing 105 miles in 9 hours (7 hours actual riding time). I bonked at about 75 miles, so the last 30 were pure torture, at least from what I remember.
