Did a 22 mile ride during gymnastics today that included the climb up Wayah Gap.

Well I sure did and glad you asked.
Did 38 miles after work I am starting to see it getting darker in some of the low lying roads covered in trees so I think I am going to look at getting a blinkng light on the back. One can never be too careful. I figure if I am thinking about it it has to be something I better do. |

24 mile commute home last night, 24 again tonight. Really prime under the full moon! My shin scars from mountain biking are getting dark and ugly enough that I might have to wear long pants to a party this weekend.
I like my modern, bright lights! So much nicer than riding under similar September moons years ago with dinky little bottle generator lights that would burn out every few months, mainly because I forgot to stop and disengage them before hitting 35mph downhill..... zzzzzzzzzzBink! Gone. |
I took a new guy at work to one of the better local MTB trails today. Just a few minutes into the singletrack, I clipped a tree with my left handlebar and crashed hard on the right side. My right knee took a decent scrape and hurt for a few seconds, but I was able to continue without a problem from the knee. My bike was less unfazed as the rear derailleur hit a rock and was knocked out of alignment. I guess the hanger probably was bent slightly. For the rest of the ride I had trouble with the chain jumping off the largest two cogs of the cassette, especially when using the smallest front ring. So I was without my lowest gears.
This made technical climbs on the singletrack a real pain. Having to push a bigger gear than I wanted caused me to get very winded much sooner than usual. Fortunately, there were trail sections with more flowing terrain where I could roll in higher gears, so I managed to get in a good ride anyway. When I got home, my wife had bought pizza and there was beer in the fridge. :D |
yesterday at 55mi into a 60mi ride coming acroos the roanoke river pop psssst so walked to the end of the bridge got my tools out to fix the flat 3/8 in cut in the tire so called the wife to come and get me.My lbs doesn't carry much so its off to raliegh sun to get some tires.Tonight I got the lotus clasique
from its hanging place in the shed put air in the tires, put the seat back on did some adjustments and went for a short ride.I have been riding my trek T1 (fixed gear) exclusively for the last 6 months man the geared bike felt wierd plus it still has clips so I rode in sneakers between that, lower pressure tires and longer wheel base it felt real slow but I had forgotten how comfortable it is. |
Not bad Dennis; 105 miles on a weekday. Are you going to be in shape for Hilly Hundred?
|
Ran cross-country instead... God I hate school.
|
50 minutes on the backyard cross course then 25 minutes working on the skills for carries, dismounts, hurdling barriers and remounts. Last road race of the season is on Sunday then the first cyclo cross race is on the 13th.

23 miles out to Saint Louis Park and back. I'm averaging a pretty steady 16.x MPH the last week or so and I'm feeling stronger. Still think that my spinning technique probably sucks, but as I have no onboard electronics, I don't really know what my cadence is. If I emerge from the Minnesota winter still gung ho on cycling, I'll buy myself one in the spring.

Did 38 miles yesterday, just a 3.5 mile run today, just to break it up.

Friends and I did the regular 31 mile Friday ride to lunch. The picture was taken on the way home through the corn and bean fields:)

Work got in the way of my riding this week. Tuesday I missed the group ride and took the steel bike for a flat 20 -ish miles. No efforts, just riding for grins.
Today I took the Diva for a roller-y 35 miles in right at 2 hrs., aiming for recovery and pretty much getting it. I'm debating on a group ride tomorrow. My last race, a time trial, is Sunday. So that's the focus now. After that...just having social rides and fun on the bikes. Hoping cgallagh finishes his project so we can log more tandem miles together. The tandem has been idle for over 2 weeks now. |

Once I get the household chores done (they piled up quite a bit over the Summer), I should be able to ride a bit more. Of course I'll still need to schedule rides around Doctor Appointments, work, and a trip to Wisconsin .....but I should have time for some good miles yet this year. Would it spoil the thread by posting pics of the chores? :D Just kidding... |
41 miles on the Ring of Fire loop with a local university senior. This was the first time I rode the loop counterclockwise which bagged me a new climb up Walnut Creek. I had to laugh riding up Walnut because we usually fly down it at well over 50mph but today we climbed at 4mph. Sustained 11% is tough. Great day for a ride and we got in 4700' of climbing too!

A very nice day to ride with the temperature in the mid to upper 50's. It was 70 when I quit but after I did 41.2 miles. Didn't ride yesterday, my other half is off so I spent quality time with her.
