You and I must be related, I can't get enough ice cream either. Are you my brother from another mother??
Cherry nut or strawberry can't beat it, love peach ice cream but can't find it any place in FL.

Took a day off to attend the final stage of the Tour of Missouri in Kansas City. It was fantastic and it seemed like I walked 10 miles to see as many different parts of the circuit as I could. My feet have blisters and I'm pooped.

57 miles and I was not really planning it but as I went I was feeling good so I thought about going even further but there was a o
rginized ride going on and at one point they started heading the same way I was thinking of extending mine so I turned onto a railtrail and headed home for the 57.
( wow that was a long winded sentence)( sorry)
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f66/kr32/th_003.jpg Just a small part of my ride, very quiet and peaceful.

Yup, 71km.

BluesDawg 09-13-09 06:45 PM

Today's ride was on the lawn mower. :(

I rode down to Yoder and back a couple of times today for a grand total of 57.3 miles. For once the wind wasn't blowing straight out of the south or north, and was coming from the east, which is unusual here. It sure made the riding a lot easier, since most of the ride is on a north-south direction. It was overcast and about 75 degrees for the whole ride. Made for a nice ride.

I'm thinking about going up to Leavenworth next weekend and riding the Buffalo Bill century. If I do, I'll probably do the metric century distance if there's one to do.

I'm not much for ice cream these days (but I understand the addiction), but I did go out and eat a big salad, then a plate of greasy, salty home style food. That hit the spot for me.

11.93 miles @ 12.3 mph ave, in addition to some warming up, and two laps in the B cyclo cross race. At the end of my first lap in the B race one of my brakes would not release and kept dragging. I stopped to make a quick fix, it didn't work and abandoned the 45 minute B Race. The organizers allowed me to race later in the 1 hour A Race. I lined up with the 35 studs and at the start stayed at the back of the field, as if it would have been a choice:D. As the race continued I ended up in front of about 4 of the A riders (everyone has bad days). I originally moved up a category to race with the B's even though the Series Master's 50+ Championship is in the C Race. Cyclo Cross racing is a blast, but I don't think I'll be riding in any more A races.

A beautiful 25 mile ride in perfect weather, followed by a long drive to visit my very depressed (and depressing) in-laws. I wouldn't have made it through the day without my sanity ride!

All of us ice cream lovers are starting to come out......er I mean show up. If ice cream had alcohol in it I would have to reserve a room at the Betty Ford Clinic

A couple of miles to get groceries. That is all.

Holla when you're close to committing -- we'd love to ride with you.

Love the pics as well. They remind me of CA (I wonder why?).

We enjoyed 31 tandem miles today in breezy, sunny, cool weather. Our 1st tandem ride in 3 weeks, and not a moment too soon, as we'll be riding from San Francisco to Santa Barbara next month.

A brisk steady flat 27 miles Saturday and about 21 miles today. Today's ride included 4 repeats of a short steep hill that I found recently in Hidden Falls Park by the river- it's a 100 foot climb with an average grade of 10%. I wish there were longer hills around here, but they are far and few between.

Do hills like this work as "intervals" or are they too short and puny to have much training value?

cranky old dude 09-14-09 03:03 AM

Yes, a 5 mile pre-dawn commute to work. 55 degrees and a clear sky, no cars...beautiful ride!!! :recum:

Trsnrtr 09-14-09 05:36 AM

Rode 63.3 miles yesterday on our Santana tandem at the Capitol City Century in Springfield, IL. Good time. :)

They can be used for intervals. Riding fast up shorter hills (<1 min.) will give you power and boost the VO2 Max. To build strength make the hill longer by riding hard into the hill in a big gear, adjust the gearing for the hill, then once over the top drop back down into a big gear and continue on at the same effort as the hill took. Try to extend the interval to a 4 minute to 6 minute range at Zone 4 or even finish out at Zone 5. Keep in mind that it takes a good 1.5 to 2 minutes to raise the HR in an interval to Z4 and beyound even though you are riding hard. Once you learn the effort to ride in the zone you will begin the intervals at the proper intensity.

Just finished 18.5 miles. 78 degrees, clear skies, nice breeze. Pure joy! Not another cyclist on the road (white bearded or otherwise.) Now it's shower and off to school tonight in a good state of mind.

...mean guy keeps trying to sell me one of those kewl liteweight, sexy, curved handle bar road bikes. Man, it IS getting hard to resist!

Yep, in a cloudy, cool, and breezy day. Butcher's Bill when I got home and inspected the new Armadillos.... one thorn pulled out of the rear wheel and FOUR thorns pulled out of the front wheel. On the old Mondos that originally came with the Allez, a single thorn would have resulted in a flat. But the Dillos more than held their own. No flats. After i pulled the thorns, the tires sealed right up.

Had a great ride tonight. A group of 12 left Chicago for Northbrook. Most of the ride was at dusk or in the dark. We practiced pacelines and kept the pace at 22+.

37 fast miles. It was warm and dark. Summer is closing it's door.

Yep, 11 miles, up off the saddle the whole time. Didn't sit down even once. I think my calves are gonna hurt tomorrow.

Mojo Slim 09-14-09 11:40 PM

50.28 miles, solo. I have been trying to rehab a bad leg, so took my time on a flat ride. It rained here last night after several days of 100 degree weather. Everything smelled good and looked clean.

When I see old barns like that I wonder if there are old cars in them.
