Rode to school this morning quite nicely. Bit of a tailwind, and right around 65F. Felt great!

Rode home this afternoon, with the wind in my face... Not my best time getting home from school. ;)

When I left the gym at work today it was raining, so I went back in and rode the stationary bike for 35 minutes on a hill simulation routine. When I left again, the rain had stopped so I went back to the original plan of doing hill repeats on a couple of 1.5 mile climbs near work. I had the bike in my car. I cut the ride short when I noticed lightning in the distance. Once again I was able to do the nasty hills without using my granny ring. I'm pretty sure now that I'll be able to use my current 26/36/48 - 12/28 setup without resorting to a MTB cassette and derailleur for the Six Gap ride next month.

I work nights and I rode home this morning. It was my first commute. I was so excited. It's not a long way but I really feel that I turned a corner and now will be biking TO and from work regularly. That was my goal--to be able to commute to work. It's really a laughably short distance but I am woefully overweight and de-conditioned. So, I am very proud of myself today!!

rode 60mi one rest stop at 50mi 82 degrees when I left ,92 when I got home.I am picking up my distance I plan to do my first century in 25 years on the 19th of sept

Good Job!

I started commuting 15 months ago. I'm down 40 lbs. and I now enjoy my bike several times a week.

I took an easy 22 miles on the Tour Easy this morning.

Did a stronger 20 miles and incorporated an ice cream stop into this evenings ride on the Volae.

Sigh....back to work tomorrow. 04:00 a.m. 5 mile commute. :(

No ride today. I just got back from having my left shoulder injected with a steroid in the hope that it will improve with therapy and thus avoid surgery.

My bride and I rode our Tour d'Winslow this a.m. and got off to a good start - we were able to time the traffic light on 2nd St. perfectly at about 12 mph and then back up to 17 for the first leg of the ride. On the reverse on 3rd St. we played the same game and were back up to 16+ for much of the westward leg. After the 28 mph downhill past Papago, with a beautiful view of the Little Painted Desert, we maintained 16+ until we headed back into the slight uphill and into the wind.

We arrived back at home having ridden the 15.15 route in 56:42, for an average 16.0 mph - our best ever! I've also lost about 6# since May, only 53 to go...

Not yet. I didn't ride the last three days either, work and weather. I hope to get in 30+ today though if the weather lets me.

Thursday 8/20/09... Good ride today with the other slo spoke team member (My daughter Tina). At least it was a good day until I made a wrong turn and she crashed into my rear tire sending her to the pavement (road rash on the knee). Temp was in the low 80s with the humidity at 87% when we started and low 90s when we finished. The upside of the ride was we did not get caught in the rain today.
All is well in slo spokes household. :thumb:

I bet you were such a fine sight to see! Better than a flatbed Ford, at any rate. :D

You got that right! We ride past "The Corner" on most of our rides, since it is nearly in the center of town and we are only about 3 blocks away. During my time observing in the Physical Therapy clinic this morning I had 3 comments (all favorable) from folks who saw us on the road between 5 and 6.

Fortunately the trucker we blocked for (probably) 1/10 mile wasn't in or it might not have been so friendly. We usually ride 2 abreast wherever practical and I keep an eye and ear out for overtaking traffic. I don't know for sure how long he was behind us, but I didn't hear his engine until we were almost at the I-40 on-ramp. His passenger gave us a hearty wave as they turned - poor fella - seems he only has one finger on that hand. It would be very difficult to ride a bike that way. I hope he wasn't too envious...

8/19/09 - Did a nice little 13 mile sunset ride with my honey on the tandem. It was lovely out. There was a nice breeze that felt good but presented a bit of a headwind. See it here: http://ridewithgps.com/trips/1791

I only added two miles to my commute home last night as I was tired and the road traffic seemed very aggresive and dangerous....7 miles last night.

Conversly I rode a very relaxed and pleasant 5 miles into work at 04:00 a.m. today. If I can squeeze out 15 miles on the way home this evening I'll be at 500 miles for the month leaving me eight more busy days to try for the 600 mile/month mark. That would be three consecutive 600 mile months, in a row, right after each other.

Friday 8/21/09... Good solo ride today, the other slo spoke team member (my daughter Tina) went back to St Pete yesterday evening. The temp was in the mid 70s with the humidity at 92% when I started and low 90s when I finished. The upside of the ride was I beat the rain again today.

MY EXPECTED ride with trailer and dog on the usual dayly Alna store route was changed because of weather ;So we took an early morning ride through and around Wiscasset I hadnt ridden through the old sea captains houses[beautifully kept] in the hights above the village for a long time. I think everyone who can should stroll the streets of these old history homes./Kenneth

I don't ride on Fridays, due to having two run-ins with cars on Fridays. If they are to get to me, they will have to do it on a different day. I did take my new bike out just to see if the odometer worked that I got from my son, and it does. Now I need to make sure of it's calibration to my tire size. I'll probably ride tomorrow or Sunday though. Today, I took a trot around the neighborhood for half an hour.

Edit: I did bike today--went to the drug store on my neighborhood's trail system. Enjoyed it a bunch too--about 3 miles.

I finally rode today after a week of no riding. Had some rain, had some lower back pain, and that kept me off the bike. I did 11 miles today, and I tell you what. After a week's rest, my legs sure felt full of juice! Maybe the time off was some much needed recovery time.

itsnevertoolate 08-21-09 10:37 PM

I rode 15 miles today / 51 for the week (so far)... 2 days left to my week... maybe another 30 miles (?) making it 81mi for the week. Started riding July 08.... better late than never!

Red Rider 08-21-09 11:54 PM

40 mostly-flat mile except for the 8 miles/1600' of climbing in the middle of the ride. The hill we repeated is a major factor in next week's road race and I wanted to be sure I owned that hill.

Mission accomplished. :D

Had lunch with overthere, who's qualified for this forum. We shared many smiles during those miles. A challenging and rewarding ride.

3rd ride on my new Cervelo R3 SL. Got caught in a horrendous thunderstorm and downpour. Had to ride through 3-4" of standing water in a couple of places.

At least the new bike has been through its baptism...
