Today has been an errand day on the bike.

Rode to meet a friend and have breakfast. Then over to the copy store to make copies. So far 22 miles.

Last 7 days 91.8 miles

I rode 30 miles this morning on my mountain bike. Took my usual Hutch to Yoder out and back route. Three miles before the halfway point I came up on a group of riders and ended up passing several of them. No big deal, since they were just enjoying a relaxed ride, but still, it was kind of fun passing them. Got my adrenaline going a little bit. Ended up doing the 30 miles in 2 hours and 1 minute, which I think is my best time on my mtb. It was just shy of 15 mph avg speed for the trip.

I road 50 miles today. Got rained on. I stopped in a brew pub had lunch the sun came out by the time I was done and finished my ride. It was a great ride.

Sixteen Ozark Roadies had a fantabulous ride today. We did 37 hilly miles and finished with cold beer and sandwiches on the patio of a local restaurant. When we started, the temp was about 60 degrees, sunny and a slight breeze, and when we finished the temp was 77 with 49% humidity. Part of the ride was to a local state park with beautiful views of Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. It doesn't get much better than this -- great scenery, great people to ride with and, of course, good food and cold beer.

Check out the Southeast forum for notices of the Ozark Roadies' rides.

I did 20 miles yesterday evening on the way home from work, and 30 miles this morning. Just finished my 5 mile commute to work.

Did 40 miles on my LHT this morning. :):)

eshvanu 08-22-09 06:03 PM

Rode my usual commute to-and-from college. Was a good ride early this morning. Just under 70F, little wind, and bright sky. Coming home was a bit warmer, and I kept getting passed by diesel pickups spewing ungodly amounts of smoky exhaust. *sigh*

I did the "Bike for the Health of It" program with the Metro Parks. Today's ride was a 20 mile ride along one of the river trails in the area. It was cloudy with a chance of scattered showers so attendance was slightly lower than usual - we had 52 riders this morning:thumb:

I rode 1 mile today, on my old Biachi Eros. 1/2 mile to the fitness center, then back.

I had hope to ride 50 plus miles on the Pine Creek Trail today with son in law; but 70 to 90 percent chance of thunderstorms kept me off trail. Tried to get my normal 22 mile road ride in, but was overwhelmed with gnats!! In 4 years I've never encountered gnats in the area. Today I had hundreds smashed on my body in first mile. I managed just 6 miles and couldn't take it any more. Bugs won.

20 miles today from home around Lakes Calhoun and Harriet and back. Trying different things to improve my technique. I'm working hard to lift my legs fast on the upstroke - I can really see how that's going to make a big difference, but for now I find it kind of exhausting after a while. Also I'm beginning to stand up to get over those Minnesota mini-hills (usually they are overpasses- they wouldn't impress a serious cyclist). Some days I am noticing that there is progress, other days I"m reminded that this is going to take years.

O.K., I got in 20 pre-dawn miles riding home from work. I only passed one car. Oh my golly it was sooooo peaceful!!!

gcottay 08-23-09 09:51 AM

I extracted a reluctant and complaining carcass from sleep this morning and rode 25 or 30 pre-dawn hours here on the edge of the Sonoran around Green Valley AZ. I rode the long gentle uphill toward Madera Canyon, turned around as the incline steeped, and loafed most of the eleven downhill miles back home.

It may be time to adopt Lenny's schedule. Though I hate getting out of bed before dawn the riding is flat wonderful.

Hello MinnMan/ I find the same training glitches some days I know Ive gained power at the pedals the next day two steps back.but I think there are two things we have know control of the weather and our emotions.//where or when there focused as the foot meets the pedal./Kenneth

For all the talk of bad weather here in mid coast Maine the weather has been beautiful[hot]//Again the ride through the back country of Wiscasset today was beautiful with trailer and dog./Kenneth

dguest 08-23-09 12:20 PM

29.4 miles with six climbs of 4% for about 3/4 of a mile each climb at 13.8 mph average. was not the greatest average but the climbs were worth it.

kenkayak 08-23-09 12:22 PM

Being a Yankee /I would love to listen to the biker chatter on those rides ArkansasGal:innocent://When In the Corps I took a ride[buy bus] to Rocky Mount N.C.?///Just to get away/While there I stopped at the local drug store for a cold drink and asked the pretty gal at the counter for a Lime Freeze/perplexed she asked me to repeat my order two or three times then as my accent finally got through ;she smiled and said//Oh you mean a LAAAAM FREEZE /I nearly melted through the stool.:D/Kenneth

Sunday 8/23/09... Good solo 62.85 mile ride today. Managed to get back home before the rain stated. The temp was in the mid 70s with the humidity at 94% when I started and High 80s when I finished. I saw a lot of property under water up in the Sanford area today, those poor folks get flooded every year it seems like. The upside of the ride was I beat the rain again today and I felt like I could have gone for a full 100.
All is well in slo spoke Jims' household. :thumb:

62.85 (s)miles today
570.53 (s)miles this month
4,317.04 (s)miles this year
15 ride days this mo.

It doesn't get any better than this!!!

Got out for 45 miles and 4000' of climbing this morning. I had intended to ride more but the fog was too thick before the ride and showers were building after the ride. I think next time I'll expand this route to a wider 83 mile loop. I need to check out the valley roads on that side of the mountain before I go.

BluesDawg 08-23-09 03:32 PM

Beautiful day here today. A cold front moved in yesterday and we had sunny skies, temps in the low 80's and tolerable humidity. I rode solo 62 miles with a few good hills to make it interesting. I didn't know how tired I was until I was approaching home and realized I needed to stretch the ride a couple of miles to make my intended metric century. Those two flat miles were harder than the toughest of the hills I had ridden earlier.

Shifty 08-23-09 11:27 PM

I rode from Toutle, Washington to the Johnston Visitor Center in Mt St Helens National Monument and back for 85 miles and 5000 ft of climbing. It was a perfect day, cool in the morning for most of the climbing, slight cloud cover lifted off of St Helens when I got to the view point, so grand views of the mountain volcano.
