It was a great day for a ride today, just a little cool but OK.

No, No, No. On vacation in a faraway place, with no access to a bicycle worth riding. Yesterday we took an excursion over the high Atlas and we passed 4 cyclists with full touring gear on the road - there are two passes with the highest at 2260 m and my guess is that it's at least 8000 feet of climbing. I was very impressed and jealous.

These days when I'm far from home and without access to wheels, I get a little exercise by running. I've decided that the running equivalent of a Fred is a jogger, and I am definitely a jogger. (Well, by some people's measure, I'm surely also a Fred.) Anything faster than 9 1/2 minute miles and my legs are sore for days.

Just a short, "gota ride" run, 16.76 miles, stopped at the high end LBS, up north of town, just to look at the expensive toy bikes and drool over some upper level componets in their cases! Sunny but breezy and chilly wind wise. I really need to get a "long sleeve" fleece" instead of just the "vest one" I have!!!

got in an easy 20 today, @ 17.1. Riding a 300k tomorrow, west and north to Vulture Mine. My first double.

PaulH 12-27-10 08:17 PM

The usual 20 mile round trip commute, this time enhanced (not) with a 40 knot headwind. A bit below freezing, but it felt warmer because I had to work so much.

Due to work, I've been relegated to the trainer for the last five days. 45 minutes each night, after work - top resistance, big ring and lots of standing. Still, I'm loosing fitness. OMG, I need to get on the ROAD! Wah!!!!

Yes, that was a whine... ;~)

LAriverRat 12-29-10 12:16 AM

37 miles up to the top of Santa Fe Dam and back. Water where there is parking for the park behind the Dam, which is under water as well. Strange to see a lot of water behind this dam and the Whittier Narrows Dam. Usually i take the bike path through the back of the Whittier Narrows area but unable to do so as most of it is under water. I now have to take Lincoln Road which runs along side. This road is very narrow with no shoulder. Nice to see water in all water ways and catch basin areas. 64 degrees with almost no wind. Sunny and very nice.

Sorry I missed wishing you luck beforehand on your first double. Hope it went well!

Easy, flat 35 miles today. Probably the last ride before Saturday's 100 miler (on the tandem). Fortunately, my cold has abated so we are good-to-go.

Thanks Bare Feet. Yes, it went well. 9 of us rode the entire distance, plus 2 who rode part of the way and finished with a century. We started at 0630 (at a parking lot 2 miles from my home; I rode there). It was a nice day for a ride, and everyone had a good time. I got home at 9:22 PM. We averaged 17.2 for the ride.

and I forgot to add we had 197 miles when we got done. Well over 300k, but just a tad short of a true double century.

2 hours of mountain biking today. Temps were up to the mid-30's with full sun making some places in the snow icy, especially on the off-camber stuff.

With a + and - 2% mileage (or is that kilometerage) error, you are in the double century realm.

And, congratulations either way. That is amazing!

DnvrFox 12-29-10 06:45 PM

Nice 6:40 am starting time 2 hr ride, 41F, winds 6-23 mph gusting, with breakfast in the middle followed by a nice swim.

RonH 12-29-10 06:50 PM

Did 22 cool miles today. This winter weather is really taking a toll on my miles and average speed. My muscles seem sluggish. Can't climb very well and can't ride fast. :crash:
But the new bike rides great with the stem flipped.

az_cyclist 12-29-10 06:55 PM

Thanks DnvrFox.

It felt great to complete it! I also forgot to add 2 stronger cyclist pulled quite a bit of the time (I did pull several times). That certainly made the ride easier.

It also gave me confidence to ride the double century in the Grand Tour in June (LA Wheelmen).

Congratulations az! You're awesome :thumb: Glad you had a good time.

Does the 197 include the 4 miles to and from your home? If not, then according to my calculations you rode +1 over a true double . . nuthin' short about it!

The way back to the start went right by my home, so, I did a complete loop. Had I ridden to the start, I would have had 3-4 miles more. The published route was for 197 miles, so that was spot on. By 9:15 last night, I didnt feel like riding more (even though I have been known to circle the parking lot when a century came in at 99.9 miles..).

The rains came again today so I tried out the trainer for the first time. I did 60 minutes with a 20-minute time trial. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but I am really hoping to get back outside tomorrow.

BluesDawg 12-30-10 12:41 AM

I rode 28 miles today. First chance to ride in over a week. Weather, work and holiday family activities kept me off the bike. It was good to be back on the new bike. I have the fit dialed in pretty well now with the new stem. The new SPD-SL pedals and Sidi 5.5 shoes felt great. I had only planned to ride 15-20 miles, but it felt so good I kept going. Planning to do about the same tomorrow and then a longer ride Friday.

kjc9640 12-30-10 06:24 PM

First ride since last Saturday. Did an easy 32 miles, weather was perfect and is supposed to be good this weekend. Good way to end one year and start a new one.

JanMM 12-30-10 07:07 PM

Ten miles today in dry, partly-cloudy mid-40's temps - and with only a little slushy snow in a few places. Hadn't ridden in a couple of weeks.

BluesDawg 12-30-10 07:28 PM

31 miles. Started around 60F, but dropped several degrees before I finished around 4:15. Supposed to hit the high 60s tomorrow when I plan to ride 50 or so.

kdiehl 01-01-11 06:30 PM

12 miles & 17 degrees F. Not far, but it's a start on all those Christmas cookies!

sknhgy 01-01-11 07:02 PM

20 some degrees and windy. Getting back home against the wind was not comfortable. 15 miles on the mtb was enough.
