And yet I ride a little bit faster every week. I ride in a slightly higher gear without cutting my cadence as time has gone on. I ride 10% farther every week. I could swear I'm getting some physical benefit from my rides, even though Garmin's programming disagrees. Strava at least tells me I'm consistently putting in more effort than in previous rides, which does square with what my body tells me. :)

As best I can tell, Garmin has a random number generator hooked up to the recovery time field. I look at it for the entertainment value. :)

I got in a tad over 17 miles this morning. Longer than my usual ~ 12ish mile ride. It was pretty hot and humid.

For the first time this summer, I used my 'sun drape' as I call it. Elastic band around my head with a white cloth 'drape' that falls over my ears and neck. I put my helmet on over that. My wife sews a lot and makes them for me.
I've had issues with skin cancers having to be removed, so I try to cover up as much as possible in summer.

I did ride today to work and back. And I was hemming and hawing on whether I should ride due to wind gust above 30 mph. But it turns out that the wind was blowing wnw and I was riding south to work. So it was an easy ride there. On the way home the wind had died down some but not completely and I did fine. So that is a win in my book.

I didn't ride today. It was a bit windy. But I took my Vespa out for a spin.....does that count:)

Not sure what time your ride was yesterday but my 11.11 mile ride yesterday began at 10:19pm and ended at 11:10pm and thus included the Actual Summer Solstice Time of Occurrence of 10:42pm EDT.

Today's ride of 33.33 miles began at 6:06am allowing me to see the FIRST SUMMER SUNRISE of 2025 and it was AWESOME!!

letrebici 06-21-25 11:22 AM

OldTryGuy Interesting I didn't know that. Cool that you did a night ride at the Summer Solstice time! my ride yesterday was from 4-6p.

Another day I was able to get out and ride today to work. When I left the house at 1pm the temp was about 80 f degrees but without humidity so all was good. On the ride home I was getting on the bike trail and there were 2 police cars and an ambulance. I asked the police officer if it was a bike accident and he said no. So that is good.

missinglink 06-22-25 08:34 PM

I got out for tad over 13 miles this morning. It was already hot and muggy.

I kinda doubt I'll try to ride tomorrow, but I'll see how it feels.
Tuesday morning I go into to have my Chemo port removed. Not sure if I'll have stitches, but they may advise me to take it easy for a while. We'll see.

A fun first days of summer ride with my good Marin friend – Mill Valley to Tiburon and back. I took my friend on his second road-ish ride on his cool new Cervelo gravel bike – practically in his back yard....Mill Valley to Tiburon. The route is based on my early days of riding to Tiburon and back, from SF, when I lived in SF. This included the Mill Valley - Sausalito Path along the Bay.

I had planned on riding my Hakka gravel bike, but I failed 4x bleeding my rear brake. Ugh. So I rode my new Creo with the Motor Off. No prob. I only turned on the motor to make a 25% ish grade short pavement hill, and for a quick demo for my friend. Otherwise riding a 33lb bike. His Aspero is 19lbs.

We were in semi-tourist mode, so that included a stop at Caffē Acri for coffee and a cookie! Also first time at the Lyford Tower (in pix) and a quick peek at the Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum.

A solid week of training rides, with one low and slow 75 miler through the boroughs down to the beaches; Riis, Rockaway and Long Beach.

Yes, I did! I was able to ride for over 10.5 miles and over an hour. Yup, I’m slow, but I’m building it back up. My wonderful son put new 700 x 40 tires on my Verve and this thing just screams now. Loving the need for speed. Using my higher gears too. Better tires, make for a better, faster ride in some cases. Enjoying the ride.

I like them all but the bridge photo is super!

I fixed my rear brake issue and got out around 1:30pm for a 6 mile ride around the lake. 93° and 44% humidity made it a little unpleasant but this morning it was 83° and 77% humidity.
I am thinking the heat with less humidity may be better so I will try tomorrow morning and see.

Maybe you should consider an ebike and then you would only have to pedal when the mood strikes...:)

Nah. I ain’t a quitter and I refuse to get beat by an inanimate object. 😎
I finally have my bike sorted out. Now I just need to get my fat a** in shape and lose weight.
I did the math- the more weight I lose the faster my bike will go and it will be easier.

early ride on the Panhandle

early but not early enough - was already approaching 80 degrees when I started and close to 90 at end

the shaded sections were a plus - although there was a fair amount of riding in direct sun

note the vintage gun / cannon at the veterans memorial site - pointed at a house

not sure I would want a gun / cannon pointed at my house … maybe the purple shutters will act as a force field … ? …

t2p 06-24-25 08:50 PM

started with one 23 oz bottle - refilled it two times … but 69 oz of water was not sufficient

fortunately was able to get more water at a water station set up next to a house near the trail … nice refrigerated water cooler … ahhhhh …

and learned more about the homeowner who provides the water station / water station … amazing individual … began cycling @ 75 years old - still cycling @ 96 years old … and competes !

Yeah not too far however- testing out a seat swap to the Brooks Saddle - big ride comfort improvement!
