Heavy rain Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and afternoon. I managed to slip in 6 miles on the http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=457344 between rains.
The next several days are to be sunny and clear. Lovely 20.7 miles ride on the http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=457342 including a krab salad at SenCen (Senior Center). In spite of the fractured pelvis (Nov) and blood clots (Jan) this has been a good year for cycling. Decided on an evening trike ride for another 9.2 miles. 29.9 today, happy camper. 2015: 2080 Miles ♂ Avgs: Day 15.6 - Wk 109 2013–2015: 6753 Miles – Avgs: Day 15.7 - Wk 110 |
18 miles. 92 degrees, south wind at 12 mph and 69% humidity.
|
Feeling almost like Summer in the Heartland: Warm and muggy on the ride to work this morning and then hot and humid on the ride home. 20 miles.

Summer isn't officially until Jun 21 but Ma Nature must be running a pre-summer test. 93 today and on thru the next several days.
76° at 8:30am for the start of my ride. 15.6 miles on the http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=457645 and 3 on the trike. Hey, McDonald's - I'm lovin' it. 2015: 2098 Miles ♂ Avgs: Day 15.7 - Wk 110 2013–2015: 6772 Miles – Avgs: Day 15.7 - Wk 110 |
Except for one day when circumstances prevented it, I been commuting this week, as usual. Had one "event" with a sociopath who apparently hates bicycles but fortunately no accident occurred and I wasn't hurt. Unfortunately he wasn't hurt either nor was his driving record or his financial well-being.

17.5 miles with my wife. 92 degrees, 75 % humidity south wind at 10 mph.
|
Drove to work today as storms were predicted and indeed they happened. After the second one this evening, and things cooled off, got out for very local seven mile ride. Didn't even wear cycling shoes but, no, don't think I'm headed that direction as a regular thing.
|
40 miles in the noonday sun, and I'm neither mad nor English.
|
27 miles early this morning with a friend. Last 7 miles were in a "110%-soaked-to-the-bone-squishy-chamois-and-insoles" downpour with a little headwind and a fair amount of traffic. No raingear. Ick. :notamused: But a good ride nonetheless. Now that I'm showered and cleaned up, think I'll clean up the bike and install my new Vetta computer. After all, it's dry in the carport. :thumb:

I got out this morning for my birthday/age ride, 54.3 mi @ 19.3 mph avg. 2:49:09

I did 50 miles with my 24 year old son and his friend. We hit a number of hills and now my legs are like rubber.
|
My sweetie and I did 49.3 miles on the tandem today. It was a good day. An anniversary ride too, as our 38th was yesterday.

Took off on a 37 mile hill ride. Our area is loaded with hills, just pick the route. If the grade was too level, I turned off and on a hilly stretch on another road. Legs feeling much stronger. I may be breaking a string of long standing PR's this year.

No anniversary ride for us today - our 37th will be in Dec. - but we did get out this morning on the Screamer for a 24 mile ride with one real hill and one long stretch with a very slight downward trend that let us get into a mid-20's cruising speed. Did I mention it was hot and humid?

I was going to ask what kind of speeds the Screamer might hit. It sure looks fast, and wouldn't offer much wind resistance. On the mythical flat ground we might cruise at 17-18 maybe. On some downhills we can spin out our 52/14 in the mid to upper 20's. Of course that's all meaningless because hills come in all varieties and some are just plain steep. We topped out today at 38.9mph IIRC. It's a hill I do NOT like going up! Something like 15% IIRC. From today's ride, ours is the blue one, vintage 1982 Peugeot: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...demtandems.jpg But we did have one, ah, mechanical problem which I discovered when we got home. After 6000 miles it might be time for a new chain! http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...2015/chain.jpg |

No twisted links on our chains but we do have two long chains ordered and on the way for replacement of the originals with about 4500 miles on them. |
99 miles on the inaugural Warm Springs Mountain Challenge out of Warm/Hot Springs VA in Bath County. 8.4K of climbing. The turnout was pretty small. I think less than 10 people did the century. That meant a high likelihood that I would end up DFL. I hate that. With a larger event I can kind of straggle in with the last third of the pack. It was looking pretty bad for my chances with about 10 miles to go, when I finally slowly chugged past another rider who was having back pain issues. So I was DFL-1 I guess.

We are often slow but steady but, yes, there is an aero advantage which sometimes helps. Not a bit of help on climbs! Nor is the 45+ pounds weight of our bike an advantage uphill. Agree that 15% is STEEP.

Headed out early, 5:30am, the roads were empty and the temps cool. Headed north to Cold Spring Harbor, then east and hooked up with the Huntington Bike Club. Jumped on a group ride to Glen Cove and dropped off at Muttontown where I took the LIE east. Eventually headed back through Farmingdale and finally home.
64 miles 2350' climbing 1935c 15.4 mph average I felt great and could of kept going, but I have a family obligation and needed to be home at noon. I'm sure i'll find a chair in the shade and take a nap. |
The wife fell on Wednesday and fractured her femur so she's been in the hospital since then. She does her post surgery, physical therapy in the mornings so I get a little break from having to be there. Had time to get in half a ride yesterday and today while she was in PT. 23 miles yesterday and 24 miles this morning.

Spent a warm Saturday morning on the http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=457937 for 16 miles. 18 Sunday on the http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=457936. Very little snow this past winter so it's going to be a very dry summer. The Truckee River is lower than I've ever seen it. http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5rtcfk8l.jpg http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/...psjqyzcdrc.jpg 2015: 2132 Miles ♂ Avgs: Day 15.7 - Wk 110 2013–2015: 6806 Miles – Avgs: Day 15.7 - Wk 110 |
What a beautiful day out, great day to do anything. Rode 44 miles today, they close the Bronx River Pkwy for Bike Sunday. 9 miles up there 2/13 mile loops of the Pkwy and 9 back down. Rode smart, rode strong all day no bonk. I feel good.
|
Kinda hot and very muggy this afternoon - rode essentially same 24 mile ride as yesterday, except solo on the long wheelbase 'bent. In spite of not have turbocharger stoker aboard, rode a bit faster than yesterday - probably because of favorable winds.
