Two days of riding on a weekend away in Greater Manchester.
Day one was from Smithy Bridge to Summit and then part of the Pennine Bridleway at Higher Calderbrook approx about 10 miles 24C and very sunny and hot. Unfortunately the Walks Book we were following doesnt give mileages but from Smithy Bridge to Littleborough is a mile and a half, the same from Littleborough to Summit. With a few detours to find our way then discovering we could have gone a quicker more direct way. My fella wanted to visit an old coal pit so we went to a farm and asked permission from the owner who was happy to allow him to visit it to take some photos and also a few specimens as well ( tho he didnt ask about that but hey who will know:p) The Bridleway was steep in parts and very stony but was easy enough to ride and as I didnt take my helmet with me (very bad cyclist I know) I took it steady negotiating it. On Sunday we went that way again but in a more direct way and completed the whole route and I splashed through a nice stream on the way. Unfortunately after that my chain jammed between the front chainring and the frame and I couldnt free it so had to walk the rest of the route. We thought we saw the church we passed on the way so headed that way instead of the route the book showed and ended up taking a far shorter route back, saving slogging all the way up Todmorden Road in the heat :) My bike had to go the LBS but is now repaired and I will pick it up tomorrow. Definitely time for a new front chainring but not from that LBS! It would break the bank. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328009 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328010 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328011 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328012 And then to finish off a Nachos so big we had to share it and a stonking Beef Roast Dinner for me. Never seen so much beef served up:thumb: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328013 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=328015 As for me: 90F at 1900 when I rode. I felt like crap. I got shelled on a recovery ride. I chugged a bug. I ran a stop sign right in front of a cop and was dead to rights. He just yelled at me but no ticket. And I rode like a freakin' squirrel as I was on my DF. And my neck hurts. And some day I'll die, if not sooner. Thanks for listening. |
Got my second ride of the season in today. 15mi to work. Good strong ride. Only the second ride after my accident and I was able to maintain a high level of output, for me. In comparison to before being put on statins and breaking my clavicle, I rode as strong as previously. I don't think, however, I can keep it up for nearly as long as before. A perfect example of the need for more base miles and saddle time. Now to start building miles. 50mi three rides from now and then 70, a half dozen rides after that. Assuming my shoulder and the rest of me holds up :).

Dont feel bad at not feeling good on your recovery ride, we all have days like that. And see it was partly a good day because the cop didnt cite you for running the stop sign. You wont die soon because you keep yourself fit so take it easy today and dont ride too far or fast. God Bless :) |
Yesterday was a humid ride taken mid-afternoon, Not the high heat we usually have but it is slowly ramping back up to the 90/90 days we are used to around here.

Went to pick up my bike from Evans after they freed my chain and then rode it to my Community Bike Shop hoping to have a new chainring fitted but the mechanic who deals with it wasnt there so couldnt get it done.
Discussed the chain problem with the other mechanic who suggested it could be the rear mech but they didnt have the tools to deal with it. So phoned Halfords where I bought the bike and they said bring it in and they would check it out. So rode there and the guy there said he wasnt sure if it was the mech but he would take it in and check it out fro me. I also asked for a new rear tyre as it is very worn. No bike till Friday now, tears, BOOO :(:( |
2 sets of 50 miles with a 5K jog after second 50. First set started at 0409 with a single riding buddy and second set started at 0804 with a group of 8. Great miles today.

So, I have a 19 mile loop from my house that is my "go to" ~1 hr fitness ride if time is limited. Yesterday, I activated MapMyRide for the first time and recorded the ride. Interesting. From one long but barely-an-incline climb, the data said that I was 8th of 145 for KOM standings on that little hill.
Shoot. Today, I'll use part of that route to join my wife for a ride to one of our favorite dinner spots. I intend to explode up that ramp to see if I can grab #1 . Wonder what'll happen??? |

12.2 @ 20.1 ave this morning before work

managed to get in 26.5 miles for my mid-day break. Mostly flat, bit of a crossing head wind going out. 96 minute ride.
|
Picked up the Colnago from the shop late yesterday afternoon. Had to replace the BB as the bearings on one side froze up. Put a Hawk Racing BB on it equivalent to a Dura Ace BB.
Put 60 miles on today's ride on the Withlacoochee Trail. Met up with a member of one of my other bike forums who is visiting Florida from Oklahoma. It was a very enjoyable ride. |
Yesterday: Five miles around the neighborhood. Slowly.
Today: Weather.com said "Expect dry conditions for the next six hours". Ten minutes after a ten mile ride (faster than yesterday in spite of a blood donation this morning) it rained cats and rats. Lucky timing on my part. |
Yes. 10.35 mi, 14.2 mph avg for 1200 ft of gain. Beautiful day at Torrey Pines state beach.

After the unsuccessful bid yesterday I went home, kitted up and went to sweat out the frustrations and pedal away the stress. It showed 100°F out on the tarmac, humidity was in the low 90% area so working up a sweat wasn't hard, thankfully. Skies were mostly clear for a change and the sun felt good, drank up the water bottle pretty quickly. Felt much better afterwards and that was my goal.

Went on a bike ride with a mate from my Cycling Group in North Wales and he lent me an MTB with disc brakes and better gears :)
Went first to Coed-Y Brenin which was an MTB Trail Centre where you can go and ride Trails graded from Green to Black depending on ability. I was impressed at my skills considering I havent done it before but the flat trails were very hard work and told us that we weren't nearly as fit as we thought we were and it was also very humid which began to affect my asthma so when we finished the Blue Run which we were on we gave it up and headed to Barmouth to ride the Coast Road. Seeing the dunes in the distance we decided to head to the beach and rode along for a while before noticing various naked people wandering about. We had ventured into a Naturist Beach lol and my mate duly obliged by stripping naked and swimming in the sea. I merely rolled up my cycle leggings and paddled lol http://republican.ie/forum/public/st...ault/laugh.png http://republican.ie/forum/public/st...ault/laugh.png |
11 miles today, on the Giant Nutra, after I fitted trekking bars. A good shake down cruise, I did not have to get out the tool bag once.
87f Winds NW 16 Rel Hum 50%, down from 96% at 11 am. 29.92 bar |
Ho hum, another commute. Outran a thunderstorm on the way back to the train station this afternoon. The humidity was so high that...<fill in the blank>. Otherwise it was just another day at the office.
|
Got in a chilly 20 mile ride at 14 mph avg. this morning the fog was thick but I'll take that over the heat from a few weeks ago.
|
41 miles this AM.
