Not today but last Sunday. Loaded up the bike with a touring load (25 pounds) and rode 44 miles by way of training for an upcoming short tour. It is common to see all sorts of wildlife, even in fairly populous areas. Even in rural upstate New York, where I grew up, I'd never seen wild turkey but they are everywhere now. Saw some crossing a parking lot at the supermarket recently. Ducks, geese and swans are underfoot along the bike path and deer graze on peoples lawns. Just recently a mountain lion was killed by a car along a road in Connecticut where one has not been seen in 100 years. Sunday, I had stopped momentarily along a fairly busy state highway and suddenly noticed, ahead about 75 yards, two good sized hogs grazing by the roadside. No idea where they came from as there was no farm near by. They seemed to be completely unconcerned by auto traffic but when I started up again they ran away in a panic. I evidently look bad on my bike.

After being off the bike for two days, I was hoping to get in a nice 44 mile ride today. Checked the weather app on my phone, 0% chance of rain until 2:00 PM. Mother Nature must not be using the same phone app. Got to the northwest parking lot (about 10 miles into the ride) and down comes the wet stuff. Waited it out in one of the bathrooms until the deluge ended and rode back to the van in a drizzle and light rain. 17.5 miles total. Hope it isn't raining this afternoon so I can get the bike cleaned up and the drivetrain re-oiled.

26 miler this afternoon, 90º(heat index 96º). Wind is a pain, but I was glad there was a wind today.

I have a 100 mile memorial ride tomorrow for a biking buddy who was hit and killed by a semi 1 year ago. He was only a week from finishing a Prudhoe Bay to Key West ride.

Between the humidity and the sun evaporating all this standing water we have around here, it was MUGGY! Good thing is that the wind was enough to cool you down if you were moving. A good 44 miles today for only the third ride this week; thanks to all the rain we've been getting.

Managed to fit in a 23 mile ride this afternoon.
