44 miles today in what I consider a very nice day for Florida cycling. I only wish that these daily thunderstorms would stop for a while so that things dry up some. I hate having to clean and re-lubricate everything after every other ride.

Compared to last summer's heat and drought resulting in stunted corn and brown vegetation everywhere, it is nice to see lush green stuff wherever you look, especially the tall corn:http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_1907.jpg

I was up in Illinois and Indiana for about a month last year. The crops were really ruined by the 100+ daily heat and no rain. Glad that things up there are better this year. I'll be headed back to Illinois for four days next month, but won't have a chance to ride any. Hoping it's not as hot as it was last year.

Can't rule out hot - we've still got August and September ahead of us - but you should see green instead of brown. Record corn yields are expected this year.

Was lazy this morning and drove to work on yet another gorgeous, warm-not-hot day. The up side was a tandem ride after work: Ten miles.

I'm confused ... why are you reporting distances in kms if you're south of the 49th? I'm from north of the 49 but have my bike computer default to miles since most of the guys I ride with live south of here.

Because I prefer reason to convention?

That's interesting - aside from distance in kms, I think if it came to a national vote here in Canada we'd switch back to imperial measurements. My education for the most part was metric, or SI as they officially refer to it in Canada. But in the real world everything is still imperial. Plywood sheets are still 4'x8', hamburgers are still 1/4 pounder, etc. So it's unusual to see kms referred to in the context of the US.

Dudelsack 07-30-13 05:29 AM

40 km sounds better than 25 miles.

Bikey Mikey 07-30-13 06:39 AM

45 miles this AM. I felt really good--felt like making it a metric, but I have a lot of errands and an PT appointment taking my time up today.

I can't believe we are about to have two consecutive days without rain. A very nice day for a 35 mile bike ride. Sun has started to evaporate a lot of the flood water that is over several areas of the bike path making it much easier to get through.

OldTryGuy 07-30-13 12:03 PM

Only 6 of us on a 54 mile ride this AM.

GTryder 07-30-13 04:42 PM

Only 7 km on the 3 speed, but that was after and hour of running intervals, on a cool windy morning.

jppe 07-30-13 06:32 PM

6 of us regulars on the locals ride. We changed the route up a bit to get in more flats since one fella was on his TT bike. We did 45.5 miles, 1550 ft of climbing and averaged about 19 mph. No real issues from Saturday's crash, although the left hip is still pretty swollen.

Business trip to Louisville Sun, Mon and today. Rode Sunday & Tuesday. Cool city, seemed to be overall very bike friendly. They have an old railroad bridge almost completely ready for crossing over the Ohio river. You have to turn around on the Indiana side, looks to just need the last expansion joint installed.

Bikey Mikey 07-31-13 06:17 AM

35 miles this AM.

John_V 07-31-13 11:13 AM

44 miles at the wilderness MUP. Started off at a nice and cool 73º and ended up in a 90º sauna. I hate to see what next month is going to be like. At least there wasn't any rain to spoil the ride or cut it short.

az_cyclist 07-31-13 11:56 AM

12.4 @ 19.8 ave this morning before work

bjjoondo 07-31-13 12:58 PM

23 miles, a bit breezy but no rain, which is nice!

Gravity Aided 07-31-13 06:01 PM

No miles today, so 157 this month, as I was getting scrap metal so I could buy a phone. Then I installed bar-end shifters on the Schwinn Passage, because I got some nice Shimano shifters in a deal the other day, complete .

drorgo 07-31-13 06:13 PM

Got 12 miles, riding to the library and store, on the Ogre today.

OldTryGuy 08-01-13 12:27 PM

Started the month off with 59 hot and humid miles.

jppe 08-01-13 06:31 PM

42 miles with 1500 ft of climbing with the regular group...only 3 showed up and 1 fella was struggling tonight so we just had him ride wheels and kept it to a 18+ mph average. I pulled for 80% of the ride.
