I rode this afternoon, rain and a steady south wind kept things interesting. Did 15.13 miles and was soaking wet by the first 2 mile mark. cold front supposed to move through around midnight, right now the temperature differential is 25°F. Saying bye-bye to this weeks unseasonably warm weather, managed to take advantage of the situation.

Did about 15 flat miles in chilly weather Had too much to do to ride longer. I particularly dislike anything over my knees when riding, but below 50 or 55 knee warmers seem necessary.

First ride of the season on studs, Ice spiker pro, great weather and a really nice ride partly singletrack and partly icy gravelroads. At the halfway stop I talked to a young guy ridng a full suspension electric bike. (this one:https://electricbikereport.com/emotio...n-bike-review/) Asked about battery capacity and he told me he carried a spare and had just swapped for the ride home. Just for fun I tried to keep up and on the flats I managed OK but on a long uphill he totally smoked me and disappeared. I hope to see a lot more of these in the coming years, great way for not so fit people to enjoy nature and become fitter.

Seven miles indoors on exercycle, real cold outdoors.

52 degrees all day. Raining at the start but stopped after an hour. Headwinds around 10+ mph for the first 50 miles. Cross winds the next 20 miles. Nice tailwind the last 30 miles.

102 miles with 4000 ft of climbing. It's official. I'm slow. 6 hrs 6 mins for a 16.6 mph avg. I think it's the slowest time I've ever had doing that route. I had nothing for the inclines.

Stopped once at the 67 mile mark. 2 fig newtons, a small bag of Salt and Vinegar chips and and a little over 2 bottles of fluid got me through.


1 down and 3 to go......doing these with a group every Saturday in December......it's an annual thing.

23 mile charity ride this morning along the beaches. Wife and I decided to make a full morning of it and did a picnic after walking along the beach when the ride was done. We haven't done a walk on the beach in a very long time.

Did 39 mi around town. Temps in the 30s but sunny. Got a new set of 700x28 tires this week. The stock ones were 700x38. Incredibly, I don't notice any difference so far. Maybe, because I'm always freezing.

45 minutes on the trainer.

Tried snow-cycling on the local streets today. I thought it might be fun with the big knobby tired mountain bike... and it was fun. But it was also a bit scary. It was too icy. I managed to stay upright but it just didn't feel safe so I cut the ride short. I need to try studded tires.

Took a ride this afternoon, 15.1 miles and it was all of 46°F, wind chill was 37°F from the steady North winds. quite a change from the high70's-low 80's the last couple of days, very low humidity today. I'll take it any day and loved every chilly minute of the ride. Tights over my shorts, ls jersey, favorite sweat shirt from our alma mater, (University of West Florida, the fighting snails, actually the Argonauts, with the chambered nautilus shell symbol on everything there for some reason, therefore Go Snails!), 50+ wind jacket, balaklava, winter socks and full fingered gloves made me toasty warm.

Took a nice ride this afternoon for about 2 hours. It was 25degF with a windchill of 5. I had a fairly strong headwind partway and then a tailwind coming back. That was sweet.

Did 24 mi around town with one break. It's too cold these days to go too far from home. Today, was 30 F, no sun, and snow on the way.

You live too far north in Florida. Try coming down to the central part of the state. Temps are still in the 80's.

7 miles indoors, snow and sleet outdoors. Think I will be on trainer and exercycle and wait for weather to improve, maybe change gyms over the winter.

Why bother with the travel, John, it was 81°F this afternoon during my ride. The front backed through as a warm front last night and when the south winds came in the temperature and humidity both went back to the usual warm and muggy for here. Rode 15.12 miles this afternoon, shorts and a ss jersey, who knows what tomorrow might bring us.

I did a 25 mile loop this morning. It was 17º when I left the house. An hour and 40 minutes later when I got home the temperature had risen to a balmy 24º. I had multiple thin layers on top silk, capillene 3, Assos Frostline thermal jersey, and a Castelli Confronto jacket on top. On the bottom I wore Castelli Ergo knickers with a Pearl Ozumi thermal tights over them. Booties covered my shoes, and a thin, Norweigian wool hat under my helmet. X-country ski gloves completed the ensemble. I never felt cold, but I never felt the slightest inclination to open a zipper either. They are predicting snow tomorrow and Tuesday, so I take the mountain bike out on Tuesday. Tomorrow is weight training.

25 miles or so. 2" of fresh on 4" from 3 days ago. Dry stuff, not too hard to fight with on an un-tracked 4x4 road in Arches NP.

Two below zero this morning and the roads are covered with ice. I might break out the snowshoes later today.

I had to Google Quincy looks like a fun place to live/visit. Snow/rain here in Maine, so no bike ride. Spinning class and a weight room work out- fun. Bring on the snow........

Went to Poynton as my fella wanted to look for coal and we hadnt been for about 11 years.

Cool about 10 C and sunny spells, also lots of lovely mud and puddles to muddy my bike up and everything else

About 14 odd miles for me as I had to ride 5 miles each way to the main station and back plus about 5 miles or so when we got there.

Nice to go back




The path is the Middlewood Way, which was created when the Great Northern and North Staffordshire Joint Railway was closed down.

A very good idea to use disused railway lines for shared paths allowing people to get out into the countryside away from traffic.

Horse riders, cyclists and pedestrians use them.

The Marina is Poynton Marina and also a friendly little mutt that had been full of it barking at us but then decided we werent dangerous and a fuss was more fun than barking
