Catching up from the weekend. A 25 mile ride at the end of the day Saturday, chasing the sun into the sunset. Once our clocks change that'll be the end of riding late afternoons without lights.

Sunday afternoon rode a charity event for Autism. Cycled 20 miles through the orchards and valleys visiting 5 wineries, complete with challenges and wine tasting. A great event for a great cause. Dinner followed of course, with live music, and a silent auction.

Ten miles after work today. Climbing a local hill, I had to yell 'Hey! -stop!' at a car backing out of a driveway. He stopped. Felt funny about yelling at a police car. :twitchy: He slowed down as he passed me and apologized - said I was in his blind spot.

JanMM, it's good to hear you didn't have an incident.

I rode my commute today (and yesterday) and I had a near-incident this morning. An aging gentleman turned left into a little parking lot as I was approaching at a pretty good clip. Fortunately I was able to brake hard enough to lift the rear wheel but not lose control, and then swerve behind him. When he stopped in the parking lot I knocked on his car window and spoke to him. He hadn't seen me at all. He tried to tell me how I should have ridden that through the lot (not sure what he was talking about) but I told him a bike is a legal vehicle and I had done the preceding turn on the shoulder exactly as I was supposed to. Then he admitted he hadn't seen me. I said neither of us was injured so it was okay, have a nice day. Sometimes you have to be extra careful.

Rode to the gym (shoulders) and back. On the Trek this time. What a mistake that was.

Can we add run workouts here too?

jimmuller 10-07-14 10:27 AM

I had another near-incident on my commute in this morning. I was approaching a red stoplight with a line of cars to my left waiting for the light when I was nearly doored by someone getting out of the right side of a waiting car. I was even running a new bright headlight which I purchased yesterday. His door missed me by inches. I yelled instinctively, then stopped to address the guy getting out of the car. He was a twenty-something, or maybe a thirty-something, they all look alike to me. I told him my godfather was killed when he was doored (which is true), and that one normally didn't expect someone to emerge from the right side of a car like that. He apologized, said he was a cyclist too and he understood. I hope understood the gravity of his error.

I wonder how many people know that by law (at least here and I wold assume in most places) if you open a door into traffic it is considered your fault. If you open door in front of a cyclist you could kill him, and your cost could be a charge of negligent manslaughter. My cost could have been anything from my life to broken fingers on my left hand (and I play acoustic guitar).

Bu then, most motorists don't even know the right-of-way laws.

Anyway, be careful out there. The unexpected could be right around the corner.

Nice 35 miles this morning. Temps are starting to get into the upper 60s in the mornings and it seems like the winds are returning with the cooler temps. :(

Took advantage of the continued good weather this afternoon with another 27. 6 miles.

I rode up to the Sunrise visitor center at Mt Rainier the other day. Not a very long ride, but pretty spectacular nonetheless. There's only a few more weeks left to ride here this year, as the snow will pile up and leave the road closed until next May. Northbend introduced me to this ride last year.

"Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go up in my dreams?"

Beautiful pics. I can dream about rides like that.

A beautiful Florida day for riding (minus the scenery that's up in Washington State) for a nice 45 mile ride. If it stay's this way for the rest of our winter, I'll be happy.

qcpmsame 10-08-14 06:42 PM

Took advantage of the continued nice weather with a 26.6 mile ride this afternoon. It supposed to remain pleasant weather through next Monday, at least.

Roger M, the pictures from Washington State are beautiful, our members living and riding in the Pacific Northwest are fortunate to have such neat places to ride.

A little cool this morning but overall very nice day to ride to and from work. 20 miles.

Passed the 1,000 mile mark for bike commuting this year.

A very nice and foggy 26 miles with the wife this morning. Cooler temps are sure making the riding so much more enjoyable.
