Still a little cool out, partly cloudy, long sleeve T-shirt & medium jacket. Thought I'd give the wrist a rest and took the trike :recum: for a leisurely 18.8 miles—10-12mph. It warmed up considerably so I was a little overheated. But the thinsulate (hunting) mittens fold back to expose thin cotton gloves. Nice ride.

Twelve miles on a cool overcast afternoon, and my fastest average speed yet, around 14.5 mph. I still had to stop halfway to use my asthma inhaler and catch my breath, but was able to resume within a few minutes -- usually it takes 10-15 minutes before I can continue. Good to feel a little gradual progress.

Perfect day for the first group ride (only 3 of us) of the year. Low 50s, lite breeze. 21.1 easy miles on the Allez. And a stop for Dunkin Donuts coffee (that's why it's called the Kiwanis COFFEE Riders). Great ride.

Gave 8 vials of blood to the VA Vampires this AM. So as soon as I got home I donned my bicycle togs and went to the Senior Center for lunch, then a 19.4 mile ride on the Allez. First time I haven't needed a sweatshirt and beanie - and wore the half-finger gloves. Mid 60s, lite wind. Probably no ride for the next two days—wind-rain-snow on Thur (maybe).

Lovely day but the hardest ride I've had in months. Intended to do 40 miles, thought better of it after half an hour of not being able to catch my breath, did 16. Finished with wobbly legs despite riding only around 10 mph. Hacking and coughing all evening. Probably ought to take it easy for a few days.

An hour of zone 1 on my rollers, but with 30 minutes of one-legged pedaling intervals in the middle, using the biggest gear I could. That felt good.
|
Waiting til it warms up a little and the commute traffic to end. I hope to get in about 3-4 hours today. My riding has been curtailed by weather and moving, so I am anxious to get back on the seat!
|
Rode in to work this morning, first time in a few weeks. Had to exercise caution around a few patches of black ice but otherwise it was easy. Just got back in from a quick run to pick up lunch. It's like spring out there. Just glorious!
|
Had three days off the bike due to a medical procedure that I had done. All's well and today I did a 45 mile ride with three of my riding buddies. Weather was awesome today with a forecast of the same for the next week or two. By then we should be back into the 80's again.
|
First ride off the trainer in a week. Weather was still no bargain 33 deg. some wind and a touch of sleet to make it interesting. 32.7 miles with 951 feet. Ended up getting a flat at 22 miles. Nothing like fixing a flat with numb fingers.
|
Had a good, but not so enjoyable ride today with my buddies. Weather was great except the winds were already in the teens with gusts above the twenties. But that's the good part of drafting! Right at the start of lap two, Florida Forestry decides it needs to do a controlled burn in the middle of the park. Well, the nasal sinuses were running like a faucet from the smoke so I couldn't breathe and the lack of oxygen to the legs fighting those winds, on the way back, just wore me out today. Hoping tomorrow is not going to be as windy.

Snowride #22 in the dark and in the books. EEEEhaw.

No ride for two days (weather) so I braved the winds today and took the Roubaix for 14.9 miles. It was cold but sunny.

Winds were as bad today as they were yesterday. Since I was doing a solo ride today, I decided to find an easy gear and do a "no shift" ride. Rode 37 miles in a single gear which ended up being an easy spin during the headwind and crosswinds. Good ride and a good rest for the legs.

Believe it or not, I FINALLY was able to get out my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey and go for a nice 13 mile bike ride down to the James River and back. It felt great to get back on the bike after the cold winter months and (yes, even for Virginia...) snow and ice!
This is looking upstream at the James River in Richmond, Virginia, over the Huguenot Bridge. I remember the rules on this forum, LOL.. I turn the old Fuji around so you all can see the Suntour drive train. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psjw2koidw.jpg This is at the Z-Dam along the James River, and the river is really up and looking a little wild. Normally it just flows gently over the funky looking steel barrier (shaped like a Z across the river). http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psojzffhf7.jpg 13 miles in 49:25 for a 15.8 mph (avg) pace. Nice day and a beautiful 65° outside! :) |
Fifteen miles out along Huron River Dr. and back. Temps near 60F but very windy. Did 17 miles yesterday, also very windy!!
|
60degrees in February? We took the tandem out for 45 miles.
|
First Saturday in 5 weeks that I was able to get out and off the trainer. 51.5 miles @ 16.2mph with 1780 feet. 53 deg actually felt comfortable after the cold snowy stretch we've had here.
