Gotham and local residents up and on the roads driving crazy for the second part of today's ride. Two miles from home I flatted. Figured I'd never run across the group out of the LBS but low a behold they came up to me from behind and I hung in for a bit and then bailed. Continued on since no rain in sight, unlike John_V who is north of me, and finished up with 113 miles for the day.

19.8 miles 1:38 on another cool but sunny day. I'll be glad when I can doff the extra clothing and mittens. A bit sweaty by the end of the ride.

Sunny and upper 50's when we got the Screamer out for a 26 mile ride this afternoon.

Third 30 mile ride in a week, and second slow motion flop-crash trying to avoid toddlers on the local MUP in a week. For some reason I can manage to ride gravel up to 25 mph, navigate washboard ruts, deep sand and mud, slippery grass slopes and riding in heavy traffic without crashing. But riding less than 5 mph around families lollygagging and cyclists parked crossways blocking the MUP? Nope. Cannot do. The simple act of negotiating a one-inch difference between the grass and paved path defies my capability to navigate without an embarrassing pratfall.

Had fun anyway.

Hi all. I'm new to road cycling *Dec 2015* and my primary goal is losing weight(fat) and getting fit. I'm slowly working in longer rides after psyching myself for a couple of days. I'm proud of my 39 miles yesterday, out in the country, low wind, and sunshine. All time high.

Don't feel bad. Last time I crashed (Nov 2014) - double fracture of the right pelvis and laid up for 3 months. At 28 you bounce, at 68 (at the time) you go Splat! Hence the addition of a recumbent trike to the stable. But since then I ride the road bikes & Sirrus more than it, but it's still fun.

Rode my MTB 5M to and 5M fro the emergency ward at 11:30pm last night because of an ear infection. 20 degrees, but my Jytte hat prevented my earache from getting any worse. I never ride at night, so didn't have a proper light. The big moon helped. Sometimes, all you need is a good bike!

Eee-Yikes! I'm lucky to have strong bones. Many folks in my family have brittle bones, even as kids. Only time I've broken any bone was when a fingertip got crushed in a machine, and it still healed okay despite being retained only by a barely recognizable flap of skin.

A little sore today and festooned with salon-pas pain relief patches like Post-It Note reminders not to crash again, even slowly.

Yeah, just a little sore. More embarrassing than anything else. If I hafta crash so publicly couldn't it at least be elegantly or spectacularly? Not at 3-5 mph trying to get back onto the paved path from the gravel trail or grass?

I'm gonna blame it on incorrect inflation. Yeah, that's the ticket. Next time I'll reduce the pressure a bit. That'll solve my terrible judgment in negotiating with those one-inch-high terrorists.

That's hardcore. I'd probably stay home and be miserable rather than go to the ER at night in below freezing weather.

By the way, in a pinch pretty much any cheap LED flashlight from a dollar store or grocery store will help. Duct tape 'em to the front and rear and at least people can see you, even if the lights don't help much to illuminate the road.

I used a little DuraBeam flashlight that fits in the palm of my hand. I could have taped it down, but I was all right. I used the M.U.P., so kind of dark, but no traffic. I usually use a headlamp for cycling at night.
I had reflectors on: spokes (f&r), fanny pack, trouser clip, front and rear of pedals and saddle pouch.

It looks like it peaked at 64F here today, instead of the 66F they predicted. It still felt great, compared to the 40s we've been getting. I rode in a clima-cool tee-shirt, with a Merino wool sweater as needed. I'm not sure on miles, but I went considerably further West than Presque Isle State Park this time, and went around Erie International Airport, so it must have been at least 15 miles, each way. (?) I found a McDonalds, that I got a strawberry shake at, but it started cooling off then, so I had to keep sitting it down, my hand was freezing, lol.

Ended this week at 132 miles, total. Weather cost me two days riding this week, rain and high winds. Still, it was a good weeks riding.

Warm enough that I wore shorts for the first time on a ride this year - 19 suburban/rural/suburban roads with a few small hills. Really appreciating how the bike (V3) rides since swapping in a titanium frame for the original cromo.

Had some great weather for Easter Sunday but unfortunately, I had to do all the family Easter stuff and didn't get a ride in. Rained last night but it paused long enough this morning for a short ride. Weather forecast was for no rain until noon - they lied! Got one 23 mile lap in with my buddy Steve who is still having difficulties with his road bike fit. Not much speed since he couldn't get comfortable for some reason. Got back to the parking lot and was ready to head out for lap two and in comes my wife who cut her ride short to avoid the rain at the other end of the park. Since it wasn't raining on our end, we did a few miles together and I ended up at 26 miles for the day and just in time to pack everything up before the rain started.

I was thinking of doing that ride but decided to do the Clean Air Ride in Inverness instead and got rained out.

Yeah, we got lucky with the rain at the GF ride with just a light drizzle. Rather a smallish turn out compared to the GF in Ashville, but was a good training ride for the Six Gap ride later in the year.

Rode 15 miles Monday evening, fairly decent clip the first half, then loafed and stopped several times to photograph wild flowers. Hard to stay focused on just riding when the weather is so perfect.

That's almost a mirror image of my Monday night ride. Roughly the same distance (I don't measure - numbers just distract from the ride for me.) - but I took it easy the first half, and picked up the pace on the way home. We have nothing blooming here yet, but the pollen is definitely in the air. In Minnesota, 60°F and sunshine is a real gift on a March evening after work - especially a Monday. Treated myself with a burger and fries at the halfway point, and took the long way home. Here's what it looked like:
