After not riding yesterday because of an early morning doctor's appointment, I rode 51 miles for the last day of the month. Ended up with 1,081 miles for June. Haven't decided if I'm going to try for a back-to-back 1K month or not.

19 miles today as a bike commuter. Very nice weather - not humid, not hot. Warm enough.

Finished the month with 16.5 miles, including a grocery stop halfway. I was shooting for 400 total miles for June but managed about 350 (Cyclemeter stopped running a few times so I'm guesstimating, but I'm sure I didn't reach 400). Since March I've added 100 miles a month, but it'll be difficult to find the time to do more than 400 a month, riding about 14-18 times a month.

Had an interesting experience on my commute this morning. While I was negotiating a modest but bumpy downhill maybe a mile from the house a coyote ran across the road about 20ft in front of me with a rabbit in its mouth. Yes, the neighborhood and surrounding areas have rabbits, and coyotes occasionally. Other than being peace-loving and creating a Disney-like environment the rabbits seem to be an inert element in the world here except for one thing. They, or at least these, love to eat zinnias. Zinnias are also attractants for hummingbirds and monarch butterflies (endangered even if not officially designated so). Keeping rabbits out of the zinnia patch requires some creative use of fine-mesh fencing. It's nice to see they serve another purpose in the great cycle of eat-or-be-eaten.

22 miles in sunny/hot/flat central Florida this morning. Ran out of water (two bottles = 40 oz) before I finished. Tomorrow I will have to drink my fill before starting.

Was hoping to start the month off right with another 50+ mile ride but that didn't happen. Somehow, I managed to place my foot in the only spot that would snap my rear vale stem off at the rim. Got the tube replaced in no time but it took me three different tries to get a section of the wheel to seat correctly on my American Classic tubeless ready clincher wheel. It was a good thing I parked next to Amanda's parents and was able to get some dish soap from them to help get the tire seated. So, while I'm working on the tire, it decides to rain. So now I'm not just frustrated, I'm wet and frustrated. Finally got it seated correctly and took off on my ride. Still frustrated, about three miles into the ride so I decided to do one lap rather than two so I ended up with 26 miles for the day. My shorted ride since April 10th.

Yeah John_V - I'm waiting for the day when we can replace pneumatic tires with anti-gravity pods. Had another flat today myself (open Presta valve). And still you managed 26 miles. That would be a great day for me.

19.4 miles on the Roubaix. Hot and tired today. But still I'll take summer over winter.

Another 22 miles this morning in Fla. I started earlier and drank a good 10oz before I left. With weekend traffic I had half the stopping time for intersections and traffic lights (9 minutes instead of 20). Was a bit slower pace than yesterday, but still finished sooner thanks to fewer stops. And I didn't need nearly as much water.

Pooped out at 17.5 miles on the Roubaix (with sexy new blue stripes to match the bike on the tires). Mr. Procrastination strikes again, didn't make it out until after 9AM. Supposed to be 96° today. I need to start at 8AM.

Out the garage today at 0413 on the '83 Paramount with a new John Cobb Randee saddle and it was HOT AND HUMID. Took things slow and easy, got in 35.1 miles back to the garage. Shower, kit change, bike change to the Propel and out to the LBS for the Saturday 0800 ride. Even HOTTER since the sun came up but kept the cranks spinning for an additional 64.56 miles so I missed the 100 by .34!!!!! No more biking until next Saturday's birthday ride of 135 miles. 2 x age of 66 + 3 extra for good measure. Hope things cool down a bit but not likely for SW FL.

Have a niece visiting from Denver and the wife wanted to have lunch with her and the family so I only had time for a shorter than normal ride. Got in 37 hot and humid, solo miles, did the lunch and then out to dinner to celebrate the wife's birthday. All this eating is going to take at least a 50 mile ride tomorrow to work off some of these calories.

Rocked the Criterium Series on a little 16mi personal TT route tonight. Times were 55:27 for a 3rd best over the last 4 years of record keeping. This is not a flat/level course.

Rode the Screamer with favorite stoker today on a club ride out of Martinsville: Cemetery Ride. We and approx 75 others rode past about 18 cemeteries in and near Morgan County. Encountered more than a few short-but-steep and not-so-short-and-steep hills on the ride. You have to go about a half hour south of Indy (by car) to this area to start finding the hills that Southern Indiana is known for. 50 miles.

Got to play Bicycle Repair Man on the ride - caught up to a group faster than us but on the side of the road - a woman had dumped her chain on the downshift(??) and it was jammed and with a bent link or two. Finally got to use the Park Mini chain tool I started carrying last year - no one else had one - was able to break the chain, pull it out, remove the bent links and put it back together again. She was able to finish the ride.
Bicycle Repair Man to the rescue!

14 miles tonight after the heat index finally dipped below 100. First time in weeks I've ridden the hilly, chipseal rural route I used last year to get back into shape. It's still a good challenge compared with the local MUP and city street bike paths.

Did a route around the lake temp perfect and very few cars except for one who seemed to think that the double yellow line does not apply if passing a cyclist. He almost got it but on the bright side he probably saved 2 seconds on his trip. Speed limit on this road is 15.
