I rode the Bayshore Bikeway in San Diego today. It's about 30 miles. I just finished restoring this Peugeot and this was it's test run. Got a nice tailwind on the last leg of the route.

Finally did some riding today on my new Trek 7.2fx.
The rain we've been having all this week here in AZ has given us a break. Was a nice partly sunny day with temps in the high 50's. My nephew Alex was over so we headed out to do about 4 or 5 miles through the neighborhood. Had a fairly strong headwind for part of the ride, so it was brisk but enjoyable. Alex was riding my Navigator. We stopped and I snapped a couple of pics with my crackberry. Have a look. http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...trek/ride1.jpg Me with the 7.2. What looks a lake behind me is actually one of the parks in my subdivision which also acts as a rainfall retention area. It rarely gets this full, really does look like a small lake. Since we did have some sun I snapped a decent picture of the 7.2. So far I've added the rack, Bontrager Deluxe trunk, and a Forte Contour saddle. The stock Bontrager saddle just wasn't doing it for me, size was good but just too hard. Maybe down the road as my old butt gets broken in again to cycling, I can switch back but for now I needed just a bit more padding. Inside the rear trunk I tossed in a spare tube, Hurricane Quick Shot Pro CO2 inflator, and a set of steel core tire levers. http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ek/newtrek.jpg Was a nice enjoyable ride. Still getting used to the 7.2. This was the first time I've been able to get out on it for anything farther than a couple of miles. I had to tweak the FD just a bit for the middle chainring. I can see a few areas that I still need to get setup to my liking. Dialing in the post height and getting the new saddle angle and position set. Had a bit of numbness in my hands when I got home but that might have been from the temp rather than the bike. Gloves would have been good to have along today. One thing I noticed was that there's not alot of room on the handlebar to vary your grip. It's like OK here's the grip, hope you like it because there ain't room to grip it anywhere else. Hope to get out for another ride tomorrow if the weather holds. Carl |
61F when I got home from work today so out came the road bike and I went for 23 miles in an hour and 15 minutes. It was so nice out too, I had on summer bibs and knee warmers and short sleeve jersey under a long sleeve one. I went 2 mph faster than last ride when it was 10 degrees colder. Come on summer!!!!
|
It was 30 degrees when I got on the bike and headed to work today, so I tried out my new handlebar mitts. 30 degrees is usually cold enough that I can't keep my fingers from freezing, but they were toasty all the way to work this morning. Wish I had discovered handlebar mitts sooner.

50 miles-trying to get in a ride while the weather was agreeable
|
I met a couple of friends after work and we rode our mountain bikes on a loop through the Crystal River State Preserve. Nice dirt roads with a few muddy spots that were easy to go around. The loop is 9 miles but we had decided to take another road and come out on the hard road about 4 miles north of where we parked. It sounded like a good plan but we missed a turn off and ended up at a maintenace workers house deep in the woods. He told us there is 40 milse of roads in the area we were in. He steered us back in the right direction and we came out where he started. Weather was cooling down as we got back to the vehicles. All and all a nice ride.
The only animals we saw was big armidillo. We were probably making to much noise to see any deer. |
Today was my third day in a row of commuting by bike this week. I'm glad I rode every day so far, because the forecast for the rest of the week doesn't sound too promising, heavy rain tomorrow, then turning colder with a chance of freezing precip on Friday.

2 hour trainer class tonight. The coach put a big hurt on everyone. The identical amount of time on the bike and miles on the computer as Saturday's outdoor ride, but twice the pain.
|
Joined a few club members for a casual ride around town before the monthly club meeting. This is our recurring awareness ride, BATTY (Bikes Are Traffic Too, Y'all) where we set a good example by riding around town blending with traffic and following the rules of the road.

No riding today, got home from work late and raining again!!
Bummer Carl |
Did 8 very slow miles on Saturday, first time back on the bike in a month after crashing. Did 20 slow miles today as the river bed was open after the rains. Road rash almost healed, both ankles almost pain free, some knee pain and still some stiffness but with some easy rides all should be good in another week. Sunny, 68 degrees and breezy.

We finally got out today. The first ride since Jan 15th. The sun didn't come out until we got home, but it was a good 50 miles. Here's part of our group on a bike path.

January 28, yes another great sunny day in Central FL, very light wind today
Temp in the high 60s when I left to low 70s when I got back today, wind out of the SE @ 2 mph so I got out for another 25+ miles this afternoon. I am 137 miles ahead of this date last year and have ridden 18 days TY vs 17 days LY. Got a late start today due to spending most of the morning with the Parks Dept. and a County Commissioner discussing my trail project. It's a little early to tell which way things will go but I am keeping a positive attitude. We will probably have some more conversation tomorrow. Photos below are the entrance to a housing development that I ride by on occasions. Last week a car took out one of the entrance sign. My guess is the car was pretty messed up as well. The other picture is a buddy that I take some apples to when i go his way 0 Gopher Tortoise today 0 Sandhill cranes 0 Deer 25.53 (s)miles today 553.73 (s)miles this month 553.73 (s)miles this year 18 ride day(s) this month (Jan.) 6946 miles needed to hit 2010 goal http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...471837&thumb=1 |
Cold day up here in N/C OH. In the teens and the wind brought it down to wind chill of 6. Did 1/2 hour on the AirDyne in the basement. I then proceeded to mount my new Innova Studded tire. Some how I got the courage to go out for a test ride. Next thing I knew I had 9 mi. under the pedals. I must say it was the coldest ride these 56 yr old bones can remember, but man IT WAS FUN!!!!!!

Finally. Try to ride 40+ miles every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Had to sleepover in the hospital with my grandson Monday night. Had too much to do when I got home. Thursday I(today_ I planned on riding at 7AM. Posted the ride on the club email, but no one responded. Heard the weather and decided to sleep in till 7:30, get up and do some work and then ride to a 8:30 meeting. Got out of the meeting about 10 and the temp was about 60 or so. Not a cloud in the sky. Rode up to the 4.3 mile loop with the only "hill" in the area. Did 6 90 - 95% heart rate intervals. Took a break, and rode home. About 35 miles total. What a great day to ride. Wind was a bit nasty, about 12 from the SE, so the trip home was "uphill". Still in all, it felt good.

Nice 45 miles in 16 mph winds, cloudy 60*

SNOW!! RAT'S, no ride, more miles on the trainer, hoping for Spring! ;)

-10 c here today (+14f), clear and sunny and just a slight skiff of snow on the ground.
Did a 5 km grocery run. http://i45.tinypic.com/2a854sk.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/14wfwd0.jpg After the dissapointment with exploding zipper on the Gore booties, I looked for other solutions to keep my feet warm. I found these generic neoprene socks at a surplus store, and for the price,($15), figured they were worth a shot. http://i47.tinypic.com/v8fq51.jpg Worn with a light pair of sport socks, the fit inside my shoes was very snug, but my feet stayed nice and warm. I'm thinking I will just go and buy a pair of shoes one or two sizes bigger for the winter and wear the neoprene socks coupled with regular or arctic socks for really cold conditions. |
23 miles on the roads near home. It was upper 50s and overcast. Caught a few raindrops, but it never started coming down enough to matter. Tomorrow looks like a rainout, but Sunday should be good for a longer ride.
|
32 miles, first 14 slow/warm up rest at 18 mph, felt strong which surprised me as i just started again after a month off the bike. Sunny and 70 with 14 mph wind.

January 29, yes, another great day in Central FL, very light wind today. Ech,
15 degrees F / -8 C, got a sore throat, taking a pass. |
Now that is impressive -- how did you rig the visor/helmet dealio, Dave?
Or if it's Ski Goggles, what are you using as a barrier for breathing in and out? Always looking for the best solution there since asthma an issue with the cold weather.
