Sorry I'm late with this. Yes, I went on a nice after dinner ride on my '85 Fuji. Sorry... I left my smartphone/camera at home, so no pictures. But I did a smooth 'n easy 14.85 miles in exactly 1 hour. Made me laugh when I pulled back into my driveway. The time on my GPS was 01:00:05.

60-something miles mostly gravel. In Montana. Kalispell. No photos of the suffering or washboard descents riding the brakes. Big Sky Day. Warm but not too hot. Life is good.

Around 10 miles early Sunday morning, just to check out the different tires and newly adjusted brakes. Cantilever brakes with smooth post pads are a PITA to set up, but I think I finally got it. Might go for a longer ride later Sunday.

Beautiful day, if a little cool at 8:45AM, sunny, no wind. 21.5 miles on the Roubaix SL3. Tried a little hill climbing, very little. Not best friends with steep hills and gravity. But I am down to 210lbs (from 225 early this year).

A 52 mile, Lazy Day Sunday ride with my buddy Frankie, remembering all those that perished on this day 15 years ago. The ride was really nice but it was just too darn slow and too long for today's heat and humidity. The good thing is that it ended a 260 mile, six day ride week. My first since my July, 1K mile month.

I got a 35 mile ride in today on my new bike. Man what a difference it made going from an aluminum frame to carbon. My average speed was up and there was a head wind on part of the ride. It felt good to get out there before church just as the sun came up. It will not be long the weather will be cooler.

10.2 mi with first half all UP. Ended up at almost 9,500 feet. Let me tell this old fart won't get much higher. My lungs died, heart set records for BPM and legs OK. Can't wait to get back to near sea level.

50 miles on a club ride this morning. A bit hilly at times but not much time spent on the small ring.

8.5 miles on the northern part of the Des Plaines River trail then my rear derailleur hanger broke! Walked 8.5 miles back Not happy!

Today I rode 34 miles of the HHH in Findlay, OH. Had beautiful weather. High was 71 degrees at 1:00 pm. Findlay is really flat. Only hills were overpasses of I-75. Excellent lunch and great ice cream at the finish.

45 miles = mostly gravel, rocky, sand and a downpour of rain at the very end.


Life is better on a fine bicycle.

36 miles Sunday night, with a few stops for beer and chatter. Perfect Autumn night.

I don't like to call it "Fall". Sounds like something to avoid on a bicycle. Autumn sounds like something perfect for a bicycle.

I've been following the Fifty Plus forum all summer, but on Saturday I became eligible for full membership. As per the suggestions on here, I made it official with a 50 mile ride.

I rode the first 25 solo, some road and some trail. Then my boys (11 and 14) joined me on the Montour Trail for the last 25 miles. Great ride!



Brought along a couple beers for the end-of-the-ride celebration, but we stopped at the LBS at mile 48.5, and the owner gave me a bottle of Flower Power to congratulate me. So the party started a little early!

Got a good workout on a group (5) ride today on the Tarmac SL3.2 steep hills, lots of inclines, and some 24mph speeds. Man, I'm getting old.

I rode yesterday, not feeling I would do very good as my training has been lacking in the cycling area. Due to my illness and a ton of local construction I have not been able to get out frequently enough to keep my legs strong.
I have lost over 20lbs since my last race in June and most of that is the leg and abs, Went from size 31 to a 28.

The winds were so strong at the race the triathlon was changed to bike run.

I had trouble keeping in a straight line as the wind blew me all over the place, I struggled in wide open areas as the constant gusts kept me hanging on tight.

Great ride today - 30 hilly miles 68-70 degrees wow fall is coming.

19 miles today riding to and from work.

Only 10 miles or so. Soft sand, rutted in spots, slightly technical.
Such a secret place, that if I told you where it was = somebody might eliminate us both!

High temps and humidity again today with winds from the get go. Managed a very nice 40 mile solo ride and man do the legs feel great today.

I rode a preride for a club metric century this Sunday. It was windy and a lot of climbs too. Legs felt strong.

Cool morning (compared to mid summer), a nice 19 miles run.

Vacationing at our beachfront rental at Kitty Hawk on the OBX. Brought my '96 vintage steel Giant with us, and have my custom Key West panniers on the back for carrying groceries since I plan on cycling every day while here, including grocery store runs.

22.6 miles yesterday from Kitty Hawk through Duck to look at the damage from the OBX's recent brush with Hermine. Headwinds both ways. (How is that even possible???) Lots of water still puddled on the interior road intersections from a line of severe thunderstorms the prior evening, so found it was more comfortable being on the main artery road to avoid those "stop sign lakes" as well as the bumpy, cracked, debris filled, and tired bike path. Traffic very heavy but very polite.

21.3 miles today from Kitty Hawk to Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head and back on NC 12 (the beach road). Passed several NCDOT front end loaders pushing the copious mounds of windblown sand off the beach road and intersections where it had accumulated the prior week from the storm. Kitty Hawk's stretch of road was the worst with a line of thick sand in the center of the road, and basically what amounted to just tire tracks showing the pavement. The shoulder was still heaped with sand. Not too much fun being passed as the sand was thrown up into my face. But it was a faster, more direct route to where I wanted to go, plus a better route to see how many houses had suffered damage - most with siding ripped off and roofs with patches of tortured or missing shingles. Some beachfront properties had deck damages and beachside stairs torn off. Kitty Hawk really looked like it had taken the brunt of the storm.

Kill Devil Hills was in far better shape, and the riding very nice on a wide, clean, well paved shoulder. Traffic very, very courteous. Lots of other cyclists out, including several going the opposite way (heading north) with packed bikes that appeared to be touring through. Stopped in at the Wilber and Orville Wright National Memorial to get a lifetime Senior Pass, and then biked home into the headwind blowing off the ocean. Could had biked the interior roads to avoid the wind but the endless stop signs drive me crazy, and my bike was more than happy to take care of the headwind for me when I asked.
