Remarkably mild and pleasant day for a bike ride in Indy - 16 solo miles.

Rode the 2017, St. Petersburg Wounded Warriors Honor Ride for 62 miles this morning with three of my friends. Winds were a b***h and the traffic all along the beaches was horrendous. Had a few spots where we had a real nice tailwind but most of the ride was heading south, right into the wind. :(

Surprised you didn't hit that rain front that moved in up here in Alachua County. Winds really picked up as the rain approached. Anyway, IM me if you still want to connect to ride the Withlacoochie sometime. The pelvic fracture is now just a fading memory (knock on wood).

First time on the bike since last Saturday's Bike Sebring's 307. Got in 102 and the winds were constantly a blow-in.

Rode the Salado Creek Greenway in San Antonio with my bride and our youngest (8). Put in 27 easy miles. Fiinished up with burgers and shakes. It was a beautiful day.

30 miles on a springtime in February day -- temp reached the low 80s. Good while it lasted, we're due for rain Sunday and maybe Monday. First ride without rib pain since crashing a couple of weeks ago.

Just did a quick 11.9 mile ride with my sister & brother-in-law. We met up west of Richmond in West Creek Pkwy business complex. EVERYBODY was out riding in there since it's sunday and Capital One, VA Farm Bureau, etc... are closed. We rode out to one of the side roads, looped around, and came back to the parking lot. The nicest thing was, back in the parking lot, we chatted with other riders on Cervelo, S-Works, Cannondale, etc... some with time trial handlebars and things like that. Serious, top quality, CF road bikes! There were no attitudes or looking at me like I'm a "Fred", etc... They were thinking that it's cool to see a couple (my sis & bro-in-law) on comfort bikes, and me with a classic old school, steel frame, '85 Fuji 12 speed. It didn't matter what we ride, as long as we're out there riding. Very nice... :thumb:

Anyway, my sister took a photo of me by my Chevy Silverado pickup with my classic '85 Fuji road bike, after we got back to the parking lot.

We had those winds all morning long. The strongest were heading south from Tierra Verde into Fort De Soto park. From what I heard, there were several riders that had crashed due to the winds. However, we did miss the rain on the ride. It started about the time we were loading the bikes in the van to return home.

I'm open to doing the Withlacoochee anytime. Just let me know when your hip is up to it. My wife also likes riding there.

Had to share the park with about 100+ roller-bladers this morning. The park hosted the Annual Squiggy Classic Inline Marathon. It's a 5K, 1/2 and full marathon on skates. They didn't close the park for this and all the regular weekend cyclists, runners and skaters were also out there. What a mess! Still managed a 40 mile ride.

With many Sunday chores to do, I opted for an early morning ride on the GNV Hawthorne trail. San Francisco-like fog awaited as I started out, cold and clammy. The trail was slick, forcing lower than normal speed.

On the return, the Ultegra Di2 suddenly stopped shifting - uh oh. I thought it was just an out of alignment front deraillure, and tried adjusting it for quite a while. No dice. I then disconnected the battery, and discovered it was full of water. Apparently the ride in yesterday's torrential rain caused water to work its way into the connector. I dried it as best I could and luckily it worked just fine thereafter (another lesson learned, Trek must have already known this since the new models mount the battery higher up on the frame).

Anyway, got in just under 40 miles, as brilliant sunshine and many riders greeted me the last few miles out.

The Raysport Light Roadster Lives!

Took my winter project bike out for a shakedown today. About 28 miles all told; twice around my local circuit. All of the disparate parts are getting acquainted and starting to work smoothly together. That 531 frame is a joy. The rattle-can Rustoleum paint job turned out pretty good.

Started with this in November:

And rode around on this today:

Pretty satisfying... :)

Oh heck yeah. Chicagoland and near 70F. Only did 25 mi as I started late and I hit sundown. But wow!

Ronno6 02-20-17 09:24 PM

Got out for a pleasant 25 miles today. What a beautiful day!
I just took the hills as they came and didn't sweat them.
No great speeds, but a nice ride!

wphamilton 02-21-17 07:58 AM

53 miles yesterday, my usual haunts with one random digression that wound being some decent hills, but terminated at an on-ramp for GA400 which is a no-go zone. So I had to take to the sidewalk in the other direction, following an old guy going really slow. But I kept way back and to be honest I was glad for the rest

According to Strava it wasn't a hill decent or otherwise, just tired legs and felt like one :roflmao2:. Since that little road doesn't go anywhere, as far as bikes are concerned, I created a segment. Maybe if I'm the only one to ever record it, I'll get a KOM with my 14 mph effort? Not likely, but it's worth a shot.*

* drats, no such luck, they ride up there and turn around so no cheap KOM.

John_V 02-21-17 12:40 PM

Rode another 40 miles with the gang today. Calm to moderate winds for a change but they picked up and sneaked up on us for the last 8 miles.

wthensler 02-21-17 05:33 PM

Just a few quick miles as darkness set in. Winds had calmed down, too bad as I was so looking forward to a nice long ride, but work held me back. We'll see if I can't make up for it tomorrow.

23 miles Tuesday afternoon/evening. Beautiful springlike weather. First ride on the rigid fork mountain bike since I crashed on it early this month and banged up my ribs and back. Mostly I've been riding the cushy comfort hybrid. Riding the mountain bike felt a bit harsh at first but after about 10 miles I was easing into the feel again.

Tonight was my last ride for awhile, as they say winter is coming back to the Twin Cities later this week. So I took the Raysport Light Roadster out for some more break-in/shakedown miles. I've rerouted this, and adjusted that, tightened some other stuff, and it's running like a Swiss watch now. Here are a couple shots from the ride this evening:

Up at the top of the Ohio Street climb, which I managed non-stop, staying in the saddle the whole way.

Here's another angle with the city in the background.

Celebrated the successful shakedown ride with a burger and onion rings! :D

Sambo was back at ti this morning. He and I pedaled 25 miles with a fair northerly breeze.
Sambo is a bit younger...he won't turn 65 til August. I call him "Junior"
Our speed was up about 1mph over what I have been dong on my own.
For as little as I have ridden this winter, I am feeling pretty good.
Maybe as the miles and speeds increase my weight will decrease! (Maybe.................)

Not a winter rider at all, but the weather's been so unusual (breaking records set in the 1880s!) that I couldn't resist -- especially since I could actually wear shorts. I did 18 miles on Sunday, but only 10 today due to chillier, cloudy conditions. Also, I had just run a few miles this morning when it was sunny and warmer and also my first-ever February run in shorts. A long run scheduled for tomorrow, but my legs might not be up for it...

Greybeard712 02-23-17 12:24 PM

Haven't ridden for 3 days (weather) so this morning after all the prep, multiple layers, balaclava, jackets, pump up the tires, the minute I put foot to pedal along came fog with wind and snow flurries (wasn't predicted on the weather site). I managed a whole (point) .94 mile (1.5k). More weather than usual this winter.

17 miles Thursday morning, before it got hot. Supposed to reach 90F here in Texas. In February. Crazy. And it was getting warm by noon when I finished.

Felt much better than Wednesday. A short ride yesterday felt exhausting, could hardly move my legs, so I rode only 4 miles.

Took it a bit easy Thursday, saving some energy for two group rides Friday evening with friends.

Couldn't sleep so out at 2:45AM for a leisurely 48 miles on the upright bar Paramount then showered, re-kitted and out at 8:15AM for another 56 miles on the Giant.
