40 very sluggish miles in unbearable hot afternoon heat. One of the least inspired rides oof 2017. I went to an early afternoon 4th BBQ party and gorged, figuring I'd burn it off....HA!

38 miles today on a July 4th version of a HOOTs (Hoosiers out on Tandems) ride. We could barely keep up with the couple pulling their 4 year old in a WeeHoo.

57.6 Miles on the Technium. Ideal weather: 75 when I left, 80 when I returned. Had one flat at mile 53, but that was a good excuse to rest.

11 miles Fortha July evening just to stretch the legs and air out the lungs.

16 years ago today my neck and back were busted up in a car wreck. Never thought I'd ride a bike again. Glad to say I was wrong.

We had a mountain lovefest today. With the roads closed again, there were clouds of cyclists out there ... a steady stream of them all the way to Baldy Village. Sooo many people out, including some of us 50+'ers.

Not sure about the distance and climbing ... 50 miles and 5000 feet sounds about right.

Here's some of us at the "shack" ... a midway point in the climb.

Just did a quick 13 mile ride from home, down to the James River here in Richmond, Virginia. MapMyRide showed an exact 13 miles, and I chuckled as soon as I pulled into my driveway afterwards, as the time said "51:50" and I remembered the classic Van Halen album! LOL... :thumb:

...and of course, the Z-Dam along Riverside Drive. Man, the river is really low! Normally it's roaring over the dam.

Nice and hot, 40 mile solo ride today. Took the usual route and enjoyed riding in the subdivision with all the trees and shade they provided. Didn't do anything for the temperature but it did keep the sun off of me.

canklecat 07-05-17 01:32 PM

20 miles of interval training Wednesday. It was horrible. Got a late morning start and the feels-like temp was already 100. I was supposed to be pushing on short, steep hill climbs but the rear derailer was balky. Having to stop a few times to tweak the barrel adjuster interrupted the preset interval timer.

Most annoying, the interval mode timer didn't match the terrain. I'll be better off just doing it my way -- pushing hard on the climbs for 30-60 seconds, then easing up for 3-5 minutes. IOW, exactly what I'd already been doing for months.

I suppose the regimented interval timer mode might be useful on static terrain that doesn't vary much, especially flats so users will know when to sprint and when to ease up. But it doesn't work for my usual route.

24.2 miles (38.9k). An absolutely perfect riding day. One of the ladies (age 78, experienced rider) from Kiwanis Bikes is doing a few 50 mile organized rides in Aug, in Tennessee, and needed someone to ride with to get in shape. She hasn't ridden all that much in the past few years. Pushed her a little (14mph) for 19.8 miles today. Trying to set up daily rides. It's always more fun when riding with someone and I don't mind slowing down a little.

With the heat index over one hundred, I seriously considered going to the gym, but we got hit with some high winds and cloud cover, which cooled things down considerably. I only got in 20 good miles, but a victory nonetheless.

Biked to work and back today. 22 miles.

23.1 miles (37.2k) on the New (To Me) 2012 Roubaix Pro w/UI2 shifters, carbon fiber cranks, Roval Wheels. Remember, the proper number of bicycles to own is N+1 (the number of bikes you have plus one :D). That makes 5 (plus the trike which I'm still trying to sell).

Twelve mile flat ride on the Screamer after work this afternoon.

14 miles Thursday evening after waxing the road bike chain, adjusting the derailer and cleaning the gritty jockey wheels. Fixed the problems I had earlier in the week. Very pleasant ride around the neighborhood.

22 miles out to Treasure Island...beautiful day but our usual headwinds.

Was out of town all last week and finally got the bike ready and rode to work today. About a mile from work my playlist picked Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell"! It was just what I needed to deal with another day in the office! :D

canklecat 07-07-17 09:23 AM

Good grief, are we that old? That 5150 is "classic" Van Halen? Yikes. I mean, I liked Van Hagar just as well as Van Halen. Different, not better or worse. And Sammy seemed like he'd be a fun guy to ride bikes with (I think he was into mountain biking?).

But classic?

Dang, I'm old.

Imma go put some Van Hagar on my phone playlist and ride around the block and fuss at all the young whippersnappers.

Ha, youngster. I remember when Bill Haley and The Comets were new and fresh.

21.4 miles (34.4k) slower-than-usual miles (Riding with Melissa). Beautiful riding morning, afternoon is too hot (99°). Lovin' these Specialized Turbo Pro tires, even tho I did have a flat today (rear, of course). Whoever came up with CO2 cartridges for flat tire repair, I could kiss 'em.

Rode 32 miles on my trike in the AM and 12.5 miles in the PM on my Bacchetta. Hot day (90s) but decent humidity. :thumb:

Well... Not really, but when you look back. Van Halen's album "5150" was released 31 years ago, March 1986!!

canklecat 07-08-17 12:17 AM

41 miles Friday afternoon, including about 20 with Team Elevate for a casual group ride around town. Hot but pleasant. And nary a sign of Van Halen or Van Hagar.

John00 07-08-17 12:29 AM

40 miles, it was 94°+ but it;s been so hot for the last two months I didn't feel it.

OldTryGuy 07-08-17 03:25 AM

FINALLY able to get back on the bike after 1 week off due to prostate cancer blood work being done yesterday. 141 miles but cut short due to lightning. Might head back out for 8:00AM LBS ride if things clear up.

Tokwan 07-08-17 04:53 AM

Did 42 km as there was a storm brewing. I hate to be caught in a thunder/lightning storm. It rained last night. The trail was wet and muddy. Yep you guessed it right! Lots of cleaning..the bike and my clothes:(

John_V 07-08-17 05:56 AM

No riding since Wednesday. :( Had cataract surgery on Thursday and on yesterday's followup, the doc said NO riding until Monday, including a trainer. Surgery went well but the no riding is killing me.
